Spense, that site doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t show local charities, I guess? It needs a search function. ;-)

This one has a search function :)

A lot of local Better Business Bureau offices do reports on local charities as well. And, they usually know if one is not on the level.

The Chicago Food Bank is a member of the "Feeding America" network (formerly America's Second Harvest). They wouldn't be a member if they weren't giving out a whole lot of food to a whole bunch of hungry people, so I'd say you've made a good choice :)

Pop, your link worked. Thanks! Not a bad vid. Can't see much of the Clipper or all the peeps who showed up for the casting call. It actually looks way more sophisticated than it is. Nice vid. Not sold on the song, but hey.

Thanks for that link on charities, Spense. I have a few I donate to regularly, but they are well-established (like the Chicago Food Depository). That's very useful information, though.

cochem, the link doesn't work for me. :-( I especially want to see it since it was filmed at the Clipper! LOL.

Do you have the inside scoop for each show as they are coming up?

Not really. I expect most of the performance shows will be live after next week.

^^^^Thanks mj!!!!! I thought they were live, so it's nice to know what's going on. Hee! I was right for the majority of them (maybe). LOL!

That makes sense for next week, but how do we know in the future? (Not that it REALLY matters, I guess.) Do you have the inside scoop for each show as they are coming up?

Okay, so does this mean that not all of the shows are live? My husband and I had a huge discussion on this and he told me to ask on here. I told him I would when the the time seemed appropriate.

This question is a point of confusion every single Idol year.

Typically, the first few "live" performance shows are taped to broadcast. Which shows are taped are different every year.

Last year I think only the first week's performance shows were taped. The year before it may have been the first two. Season three, the Top 12 and Top 11 were taped to broadcast.

There is no telling what will happen from year to year.

While this week will be live. Next week will probably be tape to broadcast, because the shows are moving up a day to accommodate the State of the Union address.

If and when the charity is classified as a non-profit -what is that, 501 (B)??- then Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll consider it legit.

501(3)c. But - the 501(3)c designation is simply how a nonprofit is designated under the tax code. It doesn't automatically mean that they're a charity you want to give your money to. Most of the services that rate charities based on how much actually goes out to the needy vs. how much is spent on administration costs are doing so based on voluntary reporting. Most of the larger, well rated charities run a completely transparent operation. At any time they'll tell you where every penny they collect goes. And, they'll allow anyone with a legitimate reason to audit their books.

There are rules and reporting requirements for all 501(3)c's, but as has been reported many times in the press, those rules do not necessarily keep a charity from spending 70% of the monies collected on salaries and administration and 20% on supplies and only giving 10% to the charity they're collecting for. The veteran's charities are a prime example. For every legitimate veteran's charity there are 20 that are nothing more than profit centers for some scumbag. And, their names always closely resemble those of the organizations that actually help people.

There are a lot of charities out there that spend 75 to 90 cents in costs per dollar they raise, which is the exact opposite of the ratio a good charity should have. Those charities are nothing more than fronts for the guy running the call center.

This agency is very good at getting to the nitty gritty of how charities are allocating their funds, and the top rated charities are those that spend 25 cents or less to raise a dollar. Therefore, at least 75 cents of every dollar they raise goes to the program they are supporting. It's a good formula to follow if you want your money to actually help people as opposed to lining some dirtbag's pockets.

Again, I wouldn't donate to any charity without first seeing their financial report. I'd want to know how much was spent on programs and how much was spent on administrative costs. It's not a hard thing to report in this day and age. Many charities update this info in real time on their web sites.

I don't have an opinion on whether Danny's charity is "legit" or not at this point, as they don't present any evidence either way. It's very new, so there's no history and their web site doesn't tell you how much they've spent on any of their programs so far.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m hearing that this weekà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s show is going to be live. Someone at IDF has tickets for tomorrow afternoonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s dress rehearsal.

Top Idol clears up the bruhaha over Sophieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Heart HERE.

Thanks for this mj! I saw this. (I think widz) posted this at the end of yesterday's headlines thread and I commented on it there. I'm just glad that Danny seems to no longer be an employee of that church! I'm also glad Sophia's Heart seems legit too. (However, I didn't and hadn't/haven't planned on giving money.)

Does anyone know if they are taping the first group performance show today? Any hope for spoilers???

I'm hearing that this week's show is going to be live. Someone at IDF has tickets for tomorrow afternoon's dress rehearsal.

Hopefully all of the people who thought and spoke negatively about this and Danny (I like him, though not his biggest fan, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s okay, just thought I would add that) the other day will see this.

I'm glad his charity is legit. But that pastor of his church still reminds me of a snake oil salseman.

Just NO.

If and when the charity is classified as a non-profit -what is that, 501 (B)??- then I'll consider it legit. The ties he has allowed with the modern day PTL Club called Faith Builders are just shady regardless of the reasons for it. I hope the charity is running separately from the church but right now we've got one anonymous person claiming another anonymous person lied, yet I haven't actually seen proof that discredits the first person.

Yep, I am mother to one of those insecure 18 year olds. Mine is a girl and dammit if she doesn't freak me out with the insecurities. She's petite a size 1. She wants to gain weight. I told her it's just not normal for her given her DNA. She hates her voice. She hates her hands. She grumbles when people compliment her. I think that some who act like they are secure just hide it better.

David darling. You sing like a dream and you are at least an 8 on a scale of 1-10. My daughter certainly thinks so.

Get Archie some therapy, stat. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s either playing his humbleness up for the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“awwwwwà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ factor or heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s totally lacking self-esteem. Either way heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s 18 now and ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s annoying. Shut up kid.

Yeah, he's 18. When I was 18 I was a lot more insecure than I am now. And all my friends had insecurities. If I met an 18-year-old that wasn't insecure about acting weird or looking weird, then I would think he or she was the abnormal one. At least he's honest about his insecurities rather than overcompensating for them like a lot of young celebrities do.

Well I did say the article about the charity made me a little queezy but I wasn't going to pass judgement until I had all the facts. If things are indeed legit that is a relief. It was giving me flashbacks to that Jim and Tammy Faye nonsense years ago. It wouldn't influence me one way or the other in the idol world. Danny has a nice voice but if I do vote this year it won't be for him.

I couldn't believe that I was going to see Sara Bareilles without even planning on it or knowing she was there! Haha it was so cool! She's sooo good live too. I got a chance to talk to her and she was talking about how nice my fans were. So thanks to all of you guys!! I thought that was so cool of her to mention that, and how we could both agree on that.

David met Sara in her trailer, and when he emerged, he had an important question for his management: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Sara wants me to sing with her today; can I?à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Well, unfortunately, due to contractual restrictions, the answer was no, but David was excited to have been asked!

It's too bad he didn't get to sing with her that day, but I'm hoping that this meeting with her will have sown the seeds for a future collaboration.

Love David's blog today. He's great about keeping fans in the loop.

And I saw David's "I'm weird-looking" article this morning before I picked up my daughter, also a teenager, from a sleepover. Listened to her spew her own insecurities for a bit, then talk about how her male friend talks about HIS insecurities, and thought of parallels. Could be an age issue. But I do hope those surrounding David reassure him that nothing could be farther from the truth.

Right on schedule, DA blogs about Hawaii, the AI Experience and New Orleans:

http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=372079673&blogID=471093671

Also, FOD reports:

According to my Very Reliable Source, David met Sara (Bareilles) for the first time this weekend at the Family Gras, held at the Veterans Memorial Boulevard across from the Lakeside Shopping Center in the Jefferson Parish in New Orleans. Also performing on the Metairie Stage were Better Than Ezra, Jesse McCartney, Lee Ann Womack, Sheena Easton, Davy Jones, Cowboy Mouth, Gavin DeGraw, and the Zac Brown Band.

Boo hiss on the bolded! grump...

Also FOD has released the names (and short biographies) of the band members that will be touring with DA:

Mike Krompass - guitars, producer
Kendra Lowe -Keyboards, backup vocals, violin
Alex Rowe - Bass
Eli -Drums

Krompass is the co-writer of ALTNOY and Somebody Out There. And I hope someone tells Kendra that she's the BACKUP vocalist and not the lead?!!!! She totally oversang David at Sundance.

Top Idol clears up the bruhaha over Sophie's Heart HERE.

Since we were talking about it in comments yesterday, and I expressed my reservations, I thought it needed to be cleared up.

Apparently, Danny's charity is legit.
