The book of James: The amazing journey of James Durbin to ‘American Idol”

In the fall of 2006, young James first performed with Kids on Broadway. Even at that point, his talents were so big that he was given the lead role in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast, ” despite the fact that he had significant behavior problems.

“His talent was always very apparent, ” said Robin Aronson, who directed Durbin in “Beast” and, later, “Singin’ in the Rain.” “Once he was there, though, we knew this was going to be very challenging for everybody.”

The young man was not communicative to anyone around him. He made no real eye contact and was prone to temper tantrums. Often, when not performing, he would disappear and be found sitting quietly in the park near the Louden Nelson Center where the rehearsals were taking place.

Fisher pleased to be in Nashville, where he can focus on what’s important

“I laugh about those things, ” said Fisher, whom the Preds acquired in part of the lowly Sens’ rebuild for a first- and a third-round draft pick.

“I’m used to it. It’s to be expected. This is where she is. Some people know me down here and hopefully I can make a name for myself.”

Fisher is hoping the change of scenery — from the media cauldron of Canada to laid-back Nashville, where the NHL team is at best third in the pecking order behind the NFL Titans and University of Tennessee football — will let him start enjoying the game again.

Mike Fisher learning about living with celebrity

The station even went so far as to publicly ban Underwood’s songs from the airwaves, if you can believe it. And who cares that Kiss 105.3 FM is a pop music station and hadn’t played a song of hers in more than three years? That stuff hurts when it’s said about someone you love.

“I heard about it right away and Carrie heard about it and she was extremely disappointed and frustrated – I think they meant it as a joke that really wasn’t funny, ” said Fisher, in advance of tonight’s game with the Vancouver Canucks at Bridgestone Arena. “Yeah, they’re not a country music station and I don’t know if it was for attention or not, but obviously Carrie had nothing to do with the move or the trade or anything so to imply something like that was just wrong.
