Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a tiny bit sad that S5 didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get their shot at these songs. That would have been a truly memorable show.

They did get the ELVIS PRESLEY Tribute and for the most part did a nice job.

It has been mentioned that the Top 12 will be doing the Beatles early catalog, right? Would 1968 be the cut off for the songs?

Crap, I changed Alaina to Amanda, and didn't want to vote for Alex (not Lisa, lol), so I screwed up totally this week, only Jason didn't disappoint. ^%&

I just listened to a couple of digivegas podcasts; Cliff Wagner is the person who talks about the song selection process on NGAB. It's on their podcast at about 12:30.

He said it went like this:

The band selected 3 songs, without practicing them, just based on what they thought would work for them.
The producers would then select one song from the submitted list, without hearing the band play any of the songs.
Then the band would start rehearsing the selected song.

Not saying it's like that on Idol, but this at least gives insight into one of Nigel's productions.

I'm not changing my selections. I'm not making the same mistake that I made last week. For the boys, last week I originally had Colton and Garrett...however I changed it to Luke and Chikisie at the last minute.

At least I had the girls right. However, those two were obvious.

Sigh.

Couldn't this have happened with maybe SEason 5? Really?

I'm not in the mood to see too many blondes and people too young to understand the Beatles music, SING the Beatles music.

I'm SUCH a diehard Beatles fan that I'm having a hard time even liking the idea. I'm not against people covering the Beatles....I'm against the majority of the AI finalist covering the Beatles.

God, Kristy Lee Cook(if she makes it to the top 12) singing the Beatles....Shoot me now.

I'm going to have to mute sooo many performances.

The only plus out of this is, that they'll probably only pick the "hits" and may leave some more obscure Beatles songs alone, hopefully. Thankfully there are only 12 contestants, so only 12 songs can be tarnished! HOORAY!

Ahhhhh. I can't decide between Luke and Robbie. And Kristy and Kady. Or neither...

I have to admit that I don't really care about the female contestants; I just want my points darn it!

Wow, they finally get the rights to The Beatles catalog & it's with this bunch of yahoos.
I think the Beatles group medley should open with a recreation of the butcher cover & segue into some of them dressed as blue meanies. The possibilities are endless. This is going to be a trainwreck fo sho.

I know CarieB.... I've been waiting impatiently for more chat!

Hapi, I love that you blah blah yourself! :thumbup_tb: I do it all the time as well.

I can't make up my mind on my picks either. I left them as I chose this morning, but I can think of 100 reasons to change them. And dial idol is NOT helpful AT ALL. Hey look, ANYONE can go home this week! Not so predictive this year. I have to say on the girls side I am not so surprised. No one gave me much reason to pick up my phone last night.....

misc blab:
David A won on "Junior" Star Search...not much diff. but a little. I remember seeing Alexandria little girl singing natl A.at a basketball game I believe, on news, she was great then, way pitchy most of the time now. Even tho Celine did All By Myself cover, since it was 70's week, they should have given Eric Carmen credit w/at least a mention.

All the girls including Carly had some pitch problems in parts of their songs at the very least...Carly in her high range, Brooke in some low but they were still the best with Ramiele next. As much as I like Alexandria she has bad pitch problems. Really pro singers sound good even in the soft areas, others should really work on those areas and not just the glory notes as thats where being off really shows. I like Brooke a lot and like Jason Castro a lot. and think David Cook is a way better singer than Aussie guy. David H. good but not as good as D.Cook. blah blah blah

Assuming Amanda somehow makes it to Beatles night, I think she should do "Why Don't We Do It In the Road" which would be immediately followed by Danny Noriega and his take on "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and my Monkey." Archuleta will come in with "Yellow Submarine" and be praised for his maturity. Michael Johns and Carly will both pick the same song - a risky move - and attempt to do differing versions of Revolution #9 (number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9) and receive creative praise from the judges, except Simon, who will claim to have never heard it before.

After winning 4 times in Star Search (singing:
A House is Not A Home
Climb Every Mountain
Ain't No Sunshine

David Archuletta (singing Wind Beneath My Wings) lost to Kevin Francis.

MJ, given all the press and pimping David A. is getting, I really think one of the choices for your first bonus question "Who will sing first in the group sing" should be David A. will begin the song with a solo.

Kirsten - I"m thinking Amanda and Robbie aren't getting to pick a song next week.

My boot list includes those two plus Alex and Jason Y.

Nos, I hear you loud and clear. I think you should send that email to TPTB because two shows sits well with me like you said...a teen Pop one and one to find the Elliotts and Kelly Clarksons. Maybe because I have so many teens in my family I don't mind watching teens like Jordin and David A but I can say...if I may.. I feel you dawg...

There is a young child and another person who didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t sign up for this kind of exposure involved with this story, so thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going to say on the matter. I know, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m just being a prig, but there you go.

Jason himself "signed up" his child, making his life as a courageous single dad part of his backstory. If Jason wanted to protect his kid, he could have left him out of his story.

There has been curiosity about the whereabouts of the mother of Jason's child. These posts may answer the question. And, if the National Enquirer gets the tips they are obviously looking for, expect a story in their pages.

The story is coming out, one way or another.

Kirsten, If my picks are right, neither Robbie nor Amanda will have the opportunity to mess with the Beatles.

Probably true. It would have been fun to see which one got it and which one had to settle for singing "Maxwell Silver Hammer" (maybe Syesha will take that one just to annoy Simon)

ealbino,

Yes, I'm becoming more miserable each day....to take a great premis as AI 'was' and to twist and turn the singers to see who is the most pliable and moldable into whatever pop crap singer TPTB want to foist onto the music buying public has hardened me.

Every so often we see an Elliot, Taylor, Chris D. and now Amanda and to see TPTB try to sabatoge them into singing themed drivel sickens me.

Simon, for all his honesty, is as musically ignorant as anyone I've ever met. Seriously, he has ONE idea of what an AI is and it obviously SUCKS, IMHO.... Pop drivel.....i.e. Leona, Jordin, etc....

Pauler is a cheerleader on crack....who cares what she thinks... really?

Randy is a musical wannabe, one horse, self-repeating tape machine..."Dawg", "pitchy", "not the right song for you", "what?" Stop me if you've heard this.

Somewhere the concept of finding and ALLOWING an artist to express who they are and what their CD might sound like got lost in the whoreing of the show out as a kareoke, popularity contest.

As a musician and music lover, I hope that at some point they can seperate the kids from the 'real artists' and make two shows....one for tweeners entering puberty and one for real singers.

But who am I kidding? Most of the "buying public" is as musically ignorant as Simon.....

So short of re-runs, I'll tune in to try to catch a small glimpse of someone worthy of being called a "singer"........maybe I'm still pissed that 24 got delayed until next year and winter will now feel 6 months longer......

That story about Jason Y will have to hurt. There's also some gossip about David H and the blonde with the horses that might bite them if they advance. Didn't Idol do their impeccable background check this year. I guess the incredible TALENT that these contestants have allowed them to overlook a few things.

Re: the entire 10 being signed. Aside from a handful, I can't believe anyone would pay $ to hear them sing.

Hereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s some gossip I found at Defamer about Jason Yeager. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not going to post it out front, because ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s still heresay, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s interesting none the less

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. I'm not interested in the age of his son's mother at the time of his son's birth. What little we have seen of Jason has not included any coverage of his son's mother. This would seem to indicate that she is not part of Jason's attempt to gain fame and I feel uncomfortable dragging somebody into the spotlight like this. One need only look at Jason's son to realize that Jason had a child when he was fairly young. Mistakes happen and he appears to have taken responsibility. Good for him. Kids in highschool date and more. It's not like he's some 40 year old guy dating a teenager.

There is a young child and another person who didn't sign up for this kind of exposure involved with this story, so that's all I'm going to say on the matter. I know, I'm just being a prig, but there you go.

Let's discuss "Helter Skelter". I think that both Robbie and Amanda will want to sing it. I think that Amanda will win that fight. I think she can take any of the guys (plus, once she pulls Robbie's wig off, he'll run squealing from the room with his hands over his head).

Oh wow, too bad his ass is gone this week, I love idol sex scandals. Eh, sex scandals of any kind are great....Truthfully though to look at Jason "up with people" Yeager, it's sorta shocking that he's actually had sex.

Lu, your ears are fine, she was a bit off. Most of the girls had pitch problems but Ramiele and Carly. I think the girls peaked to soon. Like at the auditions.

While Brooke is thinking of doing something to other people hair, she forgot her own. Sorta like a dentist with nasty teeth. I hate her hair.

I won't blame David for being 17 just because Randy mentions it ad infinitum. That's Randy's schtick, not David's. And, he is just 17! LOL!

I heard about this last week at VFTW. I think, for Jason's sake, he had better hope he gets voted off this week or it could get ugly.
ETA: I also understand that the legal age in the state it occured in is 14 so technically, it wasn't statutory rape - not that that makes it any better, imho.
