Carrie Underwood invited to join the Grand Ole Opry

Carrie Underwood will become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry after she was invited Saturday to join the long-running country music show.

Randy Travis extended the invitation as Underwood finished “I Told You So,” a Travis song that Underwood recorded on her latest album.

Her official induction will be May 10.

Carrie Underwood Invited to Become Member of the Grand Ole Opry

Watch video of Randy Travis’ surprise invitation. Formal induction will take place May 10.

During Opry Live on GAC (Great American Country), Underwood sang “I Told You So,” a cut from her latest album, CARNIVAL RIDE, originally written and recorded by Opry member Randy Travis. As Underwood accepted a standing ovation from the crowd, Travis, himself, surprised her on stage. Hugging a shocked and emotional Underwood, Travis said, “That’s a better performance than I will ever do of that song. Thank you. I’m honored.”

Simon Cowell to visit Oprah Winfrey on Monday

Put Oprah Winfrey and “American Idol” together, and you can expect big ratings.

Winfrey will have one of the most crucial parts of the Fox singing contest on her show Monday: judge Simon Cowell.

The Winfrey people provided this tease: “Simon Cowell from ‘American Idol’ reveals his hottest discoveries! From secretary to superstar, Leona Lewis makes her American debut. Plus, the third ‘Oprah’s Big Give’ contestant to be sent home is here with the inside scoop!”

SIMON’S OAP-EED CHOIR OFF!

PENSIONERS invited to audition for Britain’s Got Talent were stunned when Simon Cowell started laying into them – after just 30 seconds.

Producers asked the Ebbw Vale Male Voice Choir to fork out £250 from their own pockets to travel to Cardiff for the show’s Welsh heat.

The choir – all over the age of 60 with a veteran member aged 93 – then waited seven hours to get on stage.

And things got worse when they started to sing in front of judges Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden.

Little Lindsey Rose’s Favorite ‘Idol’ Singer Wears Wristband To Show Support For Girl

That little orange band seen on the wrist of “American Idol” contestant David Cook this week has a Tampa connection.

Cook got the wristband last week from WTVT, Channel 13, reporter Charley Belcher, who was on the “Idol” set to interview the 12 finalists. Belcher covers all things relating to “Idol.”

The band is a tribute to Belcher’s 7-year-old daughter, Lindsey Rose, who has leukemia.

“I didn’t mean for this to be a big deal or anything like that, and I am not encouraging anyone to vote for him,” Belcher says. “I didn’t even know he was going to wear it.”

Natural talent + fate = Utah ‘Idol’ Archuleta

David Archuleta’s singing was an unstoppable force of nature. Somewhere in the family’s genetic chemistry, the music seeped right into his bones, and then fate or providence or whatever you want to call it lent a hand.

What if his father hadn’t left a “Les Miz” record lying around the house?

What if his mother, a singer and dancer, hadn’t emigrated from Honduras to Florida, where she met his father, who was there only to do temporary sales work for a summer?

What if his sister’s boyfriend hadn’t stumbled into a legendary voice coach, or what if the voice coach hadn’t needed help with his computers?

American Idol: Chikezie does great, David Archuleta stumbles

Last night (March 11th) was the American Idol Top 12 performance episode and it was nothing short of reality TV. Surprising twists and turns are shifting the possible outcome and the winner of the 2008 American Idol remains a mystery, thanks to Chikezie Eze and his awesome performance last night. Chikezie’s version of “She’s a Woman” literally brought the crowd to its feet and he may turn out to be one of the best bets you have ever seen. Currently Chikezie Eze is listed as the underdog of the 2008 American Idol, holding the worst odds out of the top 12 remaining - at the online sportsbook BodogLife, Chikezie is listed with odds 90/1. That means the bookmaker will pay out $90 on every $1 risked, if Chikezie Eze becomes the winner of American Idol 7!

Who Made Jim Carrey Do This On Idol?

I’ve heard Jim Carrey used to follow a cardinal rule when it came to acting: that you don’t take the character out of the context of the movie. And I’ve seen him at the Golden Globes talking out of his ass, like he did in Ace Ventura, but it was his idea, not Warner’s. Nevertheless, there was Carrey, dressed in a really sad elephant costume, selling out big-time on Fox’s American Idol to plug Horton Hears A Who! from the same studio. Granted, the comic’s career has been DOA at the box office in recent years. (His last film, The Number 23, was a huge flop for New Line. And last summer he accepted what Hollywood considered the worst talent deal ever for a movie.) But Carrey received a whopping $8 million for his voiceover work on Horton, the result of a sop from Fox studio bosses after they’d pulled the plug on the $112 mil comedy Used Guys he planned to do with Ben Stiller back in 2006.

Now Showing ‘American Idol - The Barbecue’?

Idolmania is big here on Guam. Evan Cohen, Managing Director for the Sorensen Media Group and FOX-6 television notes that the requests pouring in to Power98, the Top 40 sister radio station and even its Classic Hits sibling, 105 the KAT, for songs being sung by the contestants the previous night on the show is a testament to the show’s popularity on Guam. He notes that the show has become the “family hour”, a unique phenomenon in this day and age, where the entire family can get together and watch an entertaining television show together.

Pacific News Center has also received a lot of anecdotal evidence of ‘American Idol barbecues’ where friends and families get together to watch the shows. Just what the doctor prescribed - another excuse to barbecue.

I’m so happy for Carrie! That is such an honor!

  2. 2 Sarah Mar 16th, 2008 at 11:00 am

Wow, congratulations to Carrie! That really is an honor. I’ll bet she is so thrilled. I know it’s a big deal in country music, so forgive me for my ignorance, but what are the “perks” (for lack of a better word) of being a member of the Grand Ole Opry?

That little orange band seen on the wrist of “American Idol” contestant David Cook this week has a Tampa connection….

….The band is a tribute to Belcher’s 7-year-old daughter, Lindsey Rose, who has leukemia.

I wonder if this really hit home with David because of his older brother and his battles with cancer. I’m sure that a) getting to talk to him on the phone and b) seeing him wear the wristband on the show (you could plainly see it on Wednesday night too) just thrilled Lindsey Rose to no end. And anything that makes a sick child happy is an honorable thing, in my eyes.

I love reading stories like this about any of the contestants. :)

Well that piece of fluff on DavidA that was passed off as news in the Salt Lake newspaper does even address the ’stage dad’ issue, hardly a surprise given the source.
Though the 1,000 donation to the church after the star search win is a little unsettling. I didn’t think children who come upon a significant mount of money were allowed to make that type of decision until they were of age.

    Regardless…

Next week I hope DavidA choses ‘She’s Leaving Home.’
He changes the second verse to ‘He’s Leaving home,’ and then for the final verse he sings
    ‘I’m Leaving Home,
    After Living Alone,
    Bye, Bye.’

He disappears off stage, is protected by the oficial state guardian until after the tour when Brooke adopts him.
I think it would make a great made for TV movie.

  5. 5 hapi Mar 16th, 2008 at 3:36 pm

I will try to find it to confirm, but read an article where an official from the star search states these stage dad stories re as far as that part of the stories, did not happen and that it appears to be a bad gossip thing. But who knows.

  6. 6 Sarah Mar 16th, 2008 at 4:42 pm

Well regardless if the Star Search story is exaggerated, looking at how long and the level at which David A has been doing this, it’s pretty apparent that his parents are stage parents to some extent.

He disappears off stage, is protected by the oficial state guardian until after the tour when Brooke adopts him.
I think it would make a great made for TV movie.

OMG, that would be so great. Good one, JSG!

ETA: Star, thanks for that video. So sweet!! :)

I have a question that maybe someone could help me out with. What exactly are “DREADLOCKS’? What is done to the hair that can’t be undone? I mean precisely … can a professional blow out Jason’s hair or style it differently and then easily go back to the dreads or is that impossible? Do they involve FAKE HAIR, extensions or is it all his own? May sound silly but unsure!

My professor had dreadlocks. She said the only way to get normal hair back was to shave everything off.

And I am SO thrilled for Carrie; it’s evident that this means a lot to her.

Video of Danny Noriega on the Rosie Gay Cruise –

He’s six story down on the front page (for now).

    Very Rosie !

I was just farting around on iTunes and I listened to Carly’s studio version. Is it just me or is her voice much higher in the studio version, then on the live. It almost sounds chipmunk-y.

    Congrats to Carrie!

Faith Hill isn’t on the members list of the Opry.

    I’ll betcha she’s really pissed now. :wallbash_tb:

And thanks for the Grand Ole Opry info, skylight. :)

Poporange … thanks for the link. The description tells it all “Dreadlocks are MATTED hair.” Sounds appealing.

  18. 18 pj Mar 16th, 2008 at 10:03 pm

My internet is not so happy tonight. Hope I can see the Danny love later. LOL

Oh, as for dreadlocks, one of my best friends has them, and they are beautiful and you can see that she is too if you are my friend on myspace and can see the bad pic of us at Hotel Chelsea in NYC. :-)

  19. 19 t2 Mar 16th, 2008 at 10:13 pm

PrplDva — you are exactly correct. Her recorded version of Come Together sounds like pretty bad. I was actually sorry I purchased it.

Which is unfortunate, because it was a good performance live.

  20. 20 Sarah Mar 16th, 2008 at 10:33 pm

Yeah, I thought the same thing about Carly’s recorded version of the song… if all of her recorded music sounds like that, I won’t be purchasing her cd.

  21. 21 primeminister Mar 16th, 2008 at 11:14 pm

Well, Carly has that same high-pitched voice on her first CD (at least her version of Just Missed the Train, which Rickey posted on his blog a while back). My guess is that’s just what her recording voice sounds like.

Her CD/songs are not for me either.

I think they look good on Jason too … I just do not understand why anyone would want to do that to a youthful healthy head of hair. I cannot imagine not being able to run a brush thorugh my hair. I was really just curious if he could get any variety in his look having the dreads without cutting the hair.

Taylor has a new career…. as a door man.

I’ve teamed up with Harmony Doors to create a series of distinctive doors designs inspired by the same influences that have shaped my music.
