Fox’s ‘Idol’ and ‘Truth’ Pile Up Numbers
No other network came close to catching Fox in the ratings on Wednesday, as 25.4 million viewers tuned in for the results edition of “American Idol,” Nielsen reported. The 9 p.m. episode, which included the elimination of 22-year-old Chikezie, left, came after Fox’s game show “The Moment of Truth” led the 8 o’clock time slot with 10 million viewers. The two programs were Wednesday’s highest-rated, with NBC’s “Law & Order” repeat at 10 trailing in third with 8.1 million viewers. NBC tied CBS for a distant second place on the night. CBS broadcast reruns of “Criminal Minds” at 9 (6.9 million viewers) and “CSI: NY” at 10 (7.5 million) following “Big Brother” at 8 (6 million). ABC, despite a fourth-place finish in total viewers, edged past CBS and NBC for second place among adults ages 18 to 49.
“Idol” finalists need power of positive thinking By Carmen Rasmusen-Herbert
I wish I had a book like “The Secret” when I was on “American Idol.” I could’ve used advice on the power of positive thinking.
It’s incredibly difficult to get yourself in the right frame of mind to perform and just forget about all the outside stuff. Most times I wasn’t able to do it; consequently, my mental state really affected my performances.
On Tuesday night, judge Simon Cowell told Carly Smithson, “Something about that performance didn’t quite work. You were so tense. You need to lighten up a little.”
Online Casino American Idol Betting Starting To Trouble Gamblers
David Archuleta is still the favorites in the sports books, but he is no longer the overwhelming favorite he was a few weeks ago. His odds have dropped to +100.
David Cook has been gaining momentum with his strong performances. He is now the second choice at +200. From there, the odds balloon with the next three contestants all being lumped together. Brooke White is +810, and Michael Johns and Carly Smithson are both +900.
Two contestants that appear to be going in opposite directions are Jason Castro and Syesha Mercado. Castro has dropped to +3100, while Mercado has risen to +3400.
Do Not Enter the American Idol Songwriting Competition
The lame songwriting contest is back on American Idol this year. Should you enter? Of course not! AmericanIdolExposed has a great site that explains just why you shouldn’t waste your time. Among the reasons:
* The contest promotes itself as finding “amateur” or “undiscovered” songwriters, but that isn’t the case. The winners of the contest last year, Scott Krippayne and Jeff Peabody, had already written 14 number 1 hits and 20 top 10 hits for artists like John Tesh, Jaci Velasquez, and Rebecca Saint James.
Ousted ‘Idol’ Overmyer back at Indiana home
The whirlwind that is the life of Amanda Overmyer took a brief pause this week.
The popular, former “American Idol” contestant got the rare chance to spend some time at her home in Mulberry Tuesday night and Wednesday.

“It’s really, really good to sleep in my own bed again,” said the 23-year-old, sounding weary from a week of media interviews, television appearances and performances.
‘American Idol’ Castoff David Hernandez Eyed For ‘Rent’ Role As Musical Is Extended To September
The news is less than thrilling for Hernandez — who made it to the “Idol” top 12 despite the revelation of his stripping past, only to be eliminated after a weak performance of the Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There.” Kornberg confirmed that the Arizona native did audition for the one role that was available: Roger, an HIV-positive musician and former heroin addict. But while producers were impressed with Hernandez’s vocal ability, they did not think he was right for a lead role, given his lack of theater experience. They’re now considering him for a smaller part and will make a decision within a few weeks.
Fantasia Says Film Version Of ‘color Purple’ Musical In The Works
Singer and Broadway actress Fantasia Barrino, who recently wrapped her run as Celie in the musical adaptation of The Color Purple, says she will reprise her role in another screen version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Oprah Winfrey, who appeared as Sofia in the 1985 Steven Spielberg film and was a presenting producer for the Broadway run, will be a producer of the new version, according to Fantasia.
“We haven’t started yet because I’m going to work on my album,” Barrino told MTV.com. “I think it’s fair that I committed myself, and promised that after I finish going on a tour, I’ll be ready to come back and commit myself to Miss Celie again … They’re going to work with me. They don’t have to but that’s a favor. Working with someone like Miss Oprah who’s so talented and amazing — It’s a blessing.”
American Idol Season Three Finalist Jon Peter Lewis Announces Release Date of New Album Break the Silence on June 3rd
The new album finds a more seasoned Lewis balancing ’sitting in my bedroom all alone’ melancholia, with the inviting, offbeat wit that put him on the short list of Idol cult favorites. Silence was produced by Chris
Garcia (Santana, Michelle Branch) and features the talents of drummer Kenny Arnoff (John Mellencamp, Indigo Girls) and guitarist Nick Lashley (Alanis Morissette).
Leona Lewis Scores First U.S. No. 1 Hit
Already a chart-topper in her native U.K., Leona Lewis scores her first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 this week with “Bleeding Love,” which zooms 8-1. She’s the first female to take her inaugural single to the top of this tally since Fergie’s “London Bridge” in 2006.
“Bleeding Love” is also No. 1 on Hot Digital Songs after selling 219,000 downloads, up 82%. Last week’s Hot 100 No. 1, Usher’s “Love in This Club” featuring Young Jeezy, drops to No. 2 but is still the fastest growing track at radio.

I am so tired of Carmen Rasmussen’s bitchin’ and moanin’. She was the Sanjaya of her year without the cool hair. I still don’t know why Simon chose her for the wildcard. She was so undeserving. Anyway, sorry I read it. Call Me was a train wreck and she still can’t buy a clue of why she should not have sang it.
LOL @ Carmen. I am so with you abbysee. She still doesn’t understand how bad she was. It’s weird to see someone so delusional.
I am really annoyed at the success of Moment of Truth. Man that show is creepy. Breaking up people’s marriages for our entertainment is so much fun, isn’t it! Yuck.
American Idol is doing well in the ratings thier no argument with that and like Surviver before it it has become the “watercooler talk” subject . Yes maybe a slight decline in ratings with arguments from contestants to how the planets are lined. What if is simply the show is getting on inyears the frsh car smell is not as strong as it used to be but I degress…………………………………………………..
This is the FUN theory I hope bloggers will jion if not I thought it was fun….
What show or will it be a new show that will take or equal American Idols “water Cooller” hype or possibly pass it in ratings? Will it be a new show or an old show? This does not imply AI will fade into the sunset I bet it will always be high up thier in ratings because all shows fade a bit or the smart ones leave at thier peak.
Tinawina, that show is nauseating. I hate it with a passion One of these days one of these shows is going to cause someone’s death or something close. Too bad they won’t ramp it down until something like that happens. Sad how desperate people are for money.
Poporange, idol is still a rating juggernaut, maybe not watercooler anymore. I don’t think an old show will surpass it in the rating as most shows don’t increase viewership as they age, they usually erode like idol is. It’s just that idol is so big and most are in a quandry to explain it’s endurance. They keep writing it’s postmortem, but to the contrary it’s still alive and kicking.
I enjoyed her article mostly because it’s the point of view of a former contestant.
I didn’t know her, so I went and found “Call Me” and listened to it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItU4Z2QJBdI
Simon was right. (Absolutely dreadful.)
I still enjoyed her article. She’s a good writer.
I think she was right… I don’t think criticisms before the performance help the contestants in any way.
YES I am sorry I ment of it as a “fun” game instaed of the ususall of how AI is doing or not in the rating compared to what year…(.It is a monster in ratings will be for awhile.)
The Word is “FUN” someone take a stab at it …….
so happy for Leona….she’s been all over the TV and events promoting the song, which is very catchy after a while.
Fantasia & the CP: I will not, repeat, will not see this movie unless it’s on TV. Read the book, saw CP1 and CP2 and won’t be spending more $$ to see it. Oprah, if she’s smart, will make it a made-for-TV movie and be done with it. alice Walker is a very rich woman.
There was a Color Purple 2? Missed that one. Won’t miss Fantasia in this one. Maybe it will be done more like Ms. Walker first wanted it done. Sometimes it’s not about the money.
Sciencefan, she wasn’t criticised before her performance. She said the judges looked at her weird. She said Byrd told her after her performance her vocals were off, as they were. Carmen reminds me of a child who after years of being praised by parents, as parents must, expects it from others even if it’s underserved. Carmen seems to be passive-aggressive and self-serving as well. Nothing wrong with that, but the really sweet comments abouts the contestants and then the knife in Byrd’s back was really bush league. Brava, Carmen.

I didn’t see the play so I probably will see the CP movie when it comes out. Plus I just like Fantasia. I really think she is one of the best young song interpreters around, just like Kelly Clarkson. I know that not everyone feels that way, though.
Glad to see I’m not the only one who loathes that Moment of Truth show, abbysee.
Leona Lewis number 1 huh? Maybe I need to pay more attention to that song. I heard it once, and it was pleasant enough, but still I didn’t care. Oh well.
On another note, I already put all my points in the pool on Syesha leaving next week. LMAO. Country night? I just can’t see anyone else going. Of course, if things look radically different after Tuesday night I’ll change it, but I doubt that will happen. Sorry Syesha. I like you, but no.
Just out of curiosity what were the two highest rated shows BEFORE Idol?
Were there ever any shows that left everyone else behind in the dust like Idol does, or did they start this new phenomenon?
Anybody know?
I was basing my previous comment on this:
” Byrd, the show’s singing coach, said, “Carmen, you need to go for a walk to calm down.”
I didn’t know I was uptight. A member of the crew took my arm and walked me outside, saying something about “relaxing” and “not worrying” if my song didn’t sound good. I was completely floored. I never thought it sounded bad.”
That person’s comment gave her the impression that other people did not think well of her performance (which they had seen in practice) and were not expecting her to do well. I believe those words must have been causing doubts in her mind while she was trying to deliver on live television. That can sabotage a performer.
My point is that negative comments like that do affect a performance. Who knows? If she had been given some confidence before she went out, perhaps she would have done better than she did.
I understand what some are saying that she didn’t have the talent to go all the way. I can agree based on my limited knowledge of her, but all I’m saying is that I agree with her main point that negative comments before a performance can sabotage you.
She said, “It definitely messed with my mind. I ended up performing poorly the next week as a result of negative thinking.
I really hope David Archuleta doesn’t let the negative comments get to him.”
I guess that’s one of the elements of this show that “separates the men from the boys”, to use an old-fashioned saying. You have to find a positive way to process the criticism.
Why am I not surprised by the Idol songwriting competition? So, they just scammed 250,000 more dollars out of the viewers and gave the prize to ringers. Nice!
On a lighter note, Idol Dream Duets. Jason’s is kinda surprising, but I likey! LOL.
Bleh. Leona has a lovely voice, but I find her singing style overwrought and “actress”-y. Nothing I like ever becomes popular, though. Except for maybe Amy Winehouse, but even she doesn’t get much play on major pop stations, at least the ones in my area.
And bleh to Carmen Rasmussen-Herbert (did I miss her getting married?). She has carved out a nasty little niche for herself popping up on various tabloid journalism programs and berating other Idols for not being talented/interesting/grateful enough. Plus, she has the writing style of a sixth-grader who has just mastered the five-paragraph essay.
Her husband is the son of the Lt. Governor of Utah, which might explain how she got her talk show gigs–and the fact that they are all of the same ilk. LOL.
Thanks for the link to the feature on dream duets. It really gives a great indicator as to what their post Idol music will sound like. I’m a big fan of Natasha Bedingfield so I love that Daivd A chose her. He’s my favorite this Season as well. Carly’s comments about not being “pop”and picking Heart for the duet probably explains why I’m not into her. It’s really not about her talent, it’s just musical preferrence. I just prefer the pop/r&b.
The male r&b group Diddy put together is predicted to have the #1 album this week by HDD. So his reality TV groups will have back to back #1s. Watch out Clive.
It’s definitely going to be an interesting competition. Right now it seems like it could be anybody’s game. The only one who seems to know what the public likes is Simon.
LOL! I love it. He’s so unexpected.
David A. made a good choice too.
Thanks, pj, for posting that!
Yeah, the crown does seem somewhat open…but only to a few, I think. Some have solidified their staying power while other are living on borrowed time. At this point, here’s how I would rank the contestants in potential to get the furthest:
1. David C.
2. David A.
3-5. Brooke, Michael, Jason (depending on how well they perform)
6-8. Carly, Ramiele, Kristy (KLC may even outlast Carly in a “shocker”)
9. Syesha
It’s interesting to note that the current pool standings are ranked in the same order as iTunes’s least popular tracks from this week. Totally unscientific correlation, of course, but an interesting coincidence nonetheless.
Gah.. I thought he was going to pick Chris Daughtry, since he studied his performances and all. Just kidding. It’s fun to snark on your favorites sometimes.
Here’s a present for some of you:

I hope Frenchie doesn’t have any problems from this. But, I also wish she’d shut up about getting kicked off AI. She developed a career from it and at some point, she’s just going to hurt herself if she keeps preying on her perceived injustice. Enough already! That being said…….get well soon, Frenchie! I love your voice!
That’s almost EXACTLY how I’d rank them. the Davids are the “Contenders”, Brooke, Jason and Michael and maybe Carly are the “Dark Horses”and Ramielle, Kristy and Syesha are the “No Shot Whatsoevers” lol. But in Idol tradition, we know several things will happen:
1. The winner will be one of the Contenders/Dark Horses
2. This season’s “Shocking Boot” will be one of the Contenders
3. One of the No Shot Whatsoevers will WAY overstay their welcome, making it all the way to 3rd or 4th (my money’s on Ramielle)
4. One of the Dark Horses will fade out spectacularly by the end.
LOL. Happens every year. Long live Idol!
Gosh Frenchie I love you but give it a rest. I believe if Frenchie has been in this batch and the same thing happened she would have met the same fate as David H, including a premature ouster. The idol producers may have been forgiving but the viewers would not.
Frencie is a tremendous singer, but I am certain she was not booted just to give Ruben and Clay a fighting chance. They probably would have bested her anyway.
The thing is if it was certain that her pictures were on a site that catered to pedophiles, she had to go. Stripping is one thing, that is totally different.
That being said, I will be seeing Ms. Davis on the road, as I am sure she and Ruben are gonna bring the house down.
Awesome pic, pj! Thanks for sharing. (sends to the office color printer to blow up as an 8 x 10 for my office wall - hee!)
pj- I adore you… :) Thanks.
Well I quess Amanda put that rumor of a wildcard pick for the tour to rest.
Someone must still be playing with Carmen’s mind. She sounded terrible in those performances. She makes some good points, though, about the negative comments influencing performances and with having contestants who were subpar be rather stressed once they see those were “amazing”.
Wow, I had no idea about the songwriting competition — that really is a huge scam. And I have to say, VFTW just happens to be quite a good site for news like this.
@pj - Thanks for dream duets link; that was interesting. I have to say, though: LOL, Jason and Gwen?! I would LOVE to see that. Jason would be pure win up there with his spastic dancing and whatever. On a side note, I think Archie and Natasha would actually sound pretty good if they did one of her more upbeat songs; maybe “These Words”, like he suggested.
Oh — I LOVE YOU for that screenshot. And I think I love their faces more than just the chestbumping in that screen, actually. Man, their faces are hilarious there. XD
Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown on Idol April 10th?
Aww, thanks, pj. I think some may enjoy this one, too.
http://thumbsnap.com/v/8U5UtYqw.png
OMG! It’s CCJ! (and Jason looks like a dork…I love it!) Thank you, cheese!!
LOVE THEM!!! Thanks, y’all! :)
So Jordin and Chris Brown on the IGB Week Results show? Cool!! I have to admit, I LOVE “No Air” and I bet that will be a great live performance.
Again, thanking cheese for the info about DC’s “Analog Heart” being available on Amazon’s MP3 downloads. I noticed while looking at the album’s page, it is currently sitting at #5 in MP3 albums.
/Amazon ranking update
/fantard
I noticed that a Kristy Lee (no “Cook”) album was also available as an mp3 download on Amazon. I assume it was dear KLC because it had a generic looking blonde on the cover, had a song about horses, and sounded like crap. It was ranked at bout 25,000 in mp3 albums.
I’m still scratching my head over the sudden availability of DC’s CD on Amazon since it apparently had to be pulled from CD Baby and iTunes before the show started.
Carly’s CD has been available for download on Amazon for weeks… though I can’t imagine she has any control over that.
Oooh, thanks, Cheese! CCJ FTW!
And yes, PM, Jason is dorkalicious!
Yay for DC! Yay for being a fantard! (It’s Friday…I have the right to be an exclamation point retard!)
Is Brooke’s album available anywhere? I think she had a pre-AI album out there on an indie label, but I’m not sure what it’s called. I too am surprised that DC’s album suddenly appeared on Amazon, so I’m wondering if anyone else who had to pull their albums have them back out there.
My fave DC songs: Straight Ahead, Fall Back into Me, Searchlights, Porcelain, Silver, and (my most fave) Makeover. :)
CCJ FTW. :)
Makeover is my favorite as well– thoughtful lyrics sung with so much conviction by DC.
Yes, I would have to echo the CCJ FTW sentiment!
I think his Analog Heart stuff is good with “Makeover” also being my top, but I love his Axium work so much more (”AC” is my favorite as of right now). I find the overall quality in Axium tracks much higher than his solo work. Not to say he’s not good solo — I just think he’d do better with a good band behind him.
CCJ = MOST AMAZING DORKS EVER. PERIOD.
