Ramiele Mania Hits Manila And Guam

“Filipinos cheer for Malubay because they can relate to her. The singer embodies the longing of every single Pinoy to be successful,” said University of the Philippines (UP) sociologist Andrea Martinez.

“There is also the natural propensity of Filipinos to identify with the underdog since the singer is considered a member of the minority who can be subjected to discrimination,” Martinez stressed.

Just like boxing idol Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, the UP sociologist also said Filipinos will support Malubay because she gives them reason to be proud of their nationality.

Ace Young interview

Based on my brief interview, he struck me as smart and deliberate in his plans. Whether it works we’ll find out soon enough but he didn’t just jump into this willy nilly. That’s probably why it’s taken so long for Ace to come out with his album, due to drop June 3. He doesn’t think waiting so long has hurt him, that he’d rather create a better product than rush something less than adequate onto the shelves.

“I was going the speed of creativity,” he said. “I wanted to make sure it was right. I didn’t want to put a time frame on the music.”

A slew of albums from ex-Idols

By a peculiar coincidence of timing, three albums from ex-Idols landed in my mail pile this week, so I thought I would briefly describe each of them.

‘Idol’ vet Frenchie to have vocal-cord surgery

Frenchie Davis, the big-voiced “American Idol” contestant who found success on Broadway in “Rent,” will undergo surgery to remove a vocal cord polyp.

Davis said she’s eager to take care of the condition that’s begun to cause tiredness and hoarseness after performances. But she’s apprehensive.

Carrie Underwood Brings Her Hits To ETSU

To really appreciate Carrie Underwood’s vocal ability, one would need to see her in a venue smaller than East Tennessee State University’s roomy Memorial Center.

But for the same reason the former American Idol winner isn’t likely to play smaller rooms anytime soon – namely, a repertoire of country radio singles – her Friday night concert in front of an estimated crowd of 8,000 at ETSU’s Mini Dome was a hit.

Carrie Underwood: From ‘Idol’ to idol

“I think everybody can expect everything to be a lot bigger,” she said, comparing the tour to her show as an opening act. “We have a lot more crew people, we have a couple of new band members, (and) we have a lot more lights and a few more tricks.”

Some of Carrie Underwood’s favorite things

“I love John Denver, Air Supply, the Rolling Stones, Wham!, George Michael, Mudvayne, Slipknot, Foo Fighters, CCR (and) the Carpenters.”

Really, the Carpenters?

“I’ll put my iPod on shuffle to work out, and we’ll have something like Foo Fighters or Aerosmith — something that really pumps you up — and then immediately after that, it’s like, Karen Carpenter singing ‘Top of the World’ or whatever,” she said with a chuckle. “It’s so random — it’s fun!”

Kinnick Clarkson concert postponed Athlete involvement in events could violate NCAA rules

The Kelly Clarkson concert at Kinnick Stadium has been postponed, along with other concerts around the country to be hosted by MSL Sports and Entertainment, according to multiple news sources at other concert locations.

MSL Sports and Entertainment announced Saturday that the Gridiron Bash, a series of concerts and events at 20 NCAA Division I football schools to generate revenue and rev up fans before spring football games, has been postponed.

The company postponed the games because of an NCAA interpretation that would limit student-athlete involvement at the events, according to an article on the Tuscaloosa News Web site. The University of Alabama was scheduled to host a concert with country music singer Alan Jackson as part of the Gridiron Bash.

Hard graft pays off as America falls for latest British pop diva

Cowell subsequently delayed rushing out an album, later saying, ‘it would have been the wrong thing to do’, and instead hooked Lewis up with US label boss Clive Davis, who was Whitney Houston’s mentor. ‘She auditioned for me cold, and I thought she had a worldwide talent,’ Davis has recalled. ‘It was a no-brainer.’

When Spirit became the UK’s fastest-selling debut album ever last November (pipping the Arctic Monkeys’ record), the 75-year-old mogul revealed Sony BMG were ‘diligently preparing’ Lewis’s sustained assault on America.

Cowell expresses surprise at Leona Lewis’s US success

Music mogul Simon Cowell has expressed surprise at the speed of Leona Lewis’s rise to fame in the US.

Lewis’s single Bleeding Love currently tops the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, making her the first British female artist to achieve the feat in over 20 years.

“To say this has happened quickly is the understatement of the year,” Cowell said.

“We were getting calls saying: ‘This record is on fire’, and: ‘It’s going to chart high’. Then we got one saying: ‘It’s gone in at No.1′. Nobody expected that.

Ferras owes success to ‘Idol,’ Fred Durst and hard work

His signature song, “Hollywood’s Not America,” which he co-wrote, first landed in the hands of production team the Matrix (Avril Lavigne, Korn), who shared it with Anokute. Initially it was geared to Taylor Hicks, but once Anokute heard it, all he could hear was Ferras.

“I felt something about the song, and I knew it would be the single,” Anokute says.

He convinced the Matrix that Ferras needed the song and could add his own lyrical touches to it. The Matrix went on to produce “Aliens & Rainbows” with Gary Clark.

While he has received a boost from “American Idol,” he never considered auditioning for the show, Ferras says.

American Idol: Tonight, America Dies a Little Inside

Listen, if you’re like me, then you’re drunk on Ryan, Paula, Simon, Dawg and the other hacks that make up this show. But that’s okay. After all, American Idol surpasses the title as “just another TV show.” This is, like, baseball. Apple pie. Undeclared war. Idol is one of the many vital threads that make up fabric of America, and it’s my job to remind you that its results show is just as important as its preceding episode. See that? That’s buying time. Dim the lights, put up the music — you’re NOT going to believe this shit!

I’m the new cohost of the Fox Reality Channel’s American Idol Extra (Thursdays, 7 and 10 p.m./EST) and since I am getting paid to watch the show, I figure I would share some stuff for you readers. These are only my opinions. I implore you to share your thoughts as well. What have I been up to in this last year? The nutshell version:

“Wedding Singer” on Broadway, “Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris” Off-Broadway. Started a record label “Sixth Place Records” and released “Constantine” (in stores & online now). Toured extensively. Hosted Yahoo! American Idol Buzz Session for Season 6 and starred in The Bold & The Beautiful on CBS. (It’s not that bad…trust me I still get lots of XBOX 360 in!)

Seriously? If this was a testosterone fest, David A wouldn’t be anywhere near it. Has he even hit puberty yet?

I have to agree with Sarah on this one. I would replace him with Jason (preferably behind the drums, shirtless, thankyew)

*Those doors in the Taylor Hicks collection are beautiful , I may look into adorning my home with one of those . Wonder if Taylor would install it for me ?
*Blake is showing himself to be an extremely obnoxious little jerk , not liking him more and more.
    * Why do I want to hear any opinion from creepy Constantine ? I still remember how he was shadowing Kellie Pickler when she was competing on AI . Wish his 15 minutes were up.

  3. 53 Sarah Mar 31st, 2008 at 12:48 am

That is not quite what I said, Abby.

How about we put it this way - the first word that comes into my mind when I think of David Archuleta is not exactly “testosterone”.

I would replace him with Jason (preferably behind the drums, shirtless, thankyew)

Hmmmm. I could work with that too - as long as he shaves off the creepy stalker mustache he was sporting this week (sorry).

    CCJ FTW!

oh, 17 year olds have new and fresh testosterone, packed full of piss and vinegar — leads them to do stupid stuff like punch someone out in the Publix line just because they bought cherry’s. :glurps_tb:

I’m pretty sure that David A. will quickly grow into being an uber-sexual by next week (at least 5 levels below metro-sexual). He’s mellow (controlled by daddy).

cricket, you buy that door! Not that Taylor designed it or really cares about, like, doors — just buy it! wooo hooooooo !

Well, I think if Michael keeps upping his game and choosing the right songs, he could be in it for the long haul, too. Who knows, this might turn into the Michael Johns and David Cook show. ;) I certainly wouldn’t be upset with that!!

Sarah, I agree. This isn’t a competition anymore. The final 3 have already stepped forward… MJ, Cook and Archuleta. It’s a win-win for Idol this season.

  6. 56 abbysee Mar 31st, 2008 at 1:30 am

NOLA, there’s a little somethin’, somethin’ for everyone. I would be happy with either one of those as each of them have moved me in some way. Not so much with any of the others.

  7. 57 carolina Mar 31st, 2008 at 1:34 am

I just did a search on Taylor — corporate stuff. The Harmony Door people list a Birmingham area code, the site was put up by a Bham web company as well but no corp in this state.

Here’s Taylor latest corporation, dated incorp interesting, 7/2607 –

    MWIC I, LLC

Wonder what MWIC I, LLC means.

  8. 58 NOLA Mar 31st, 2008 at 1:35 am

I agree with abby. 17 y/o males have plenty of testosterone.
A man is at his peak at 18. :)

  9. 59 carolina Mar 31st, 2008 at 1:37 am

Oh, you guys, Michael Johns has a long AI history of picking the wrong songs.

Just because he got it right once, sort of, doesn’t mean he’ll do it again.

Write it down - Cooks going to win.

  10. 60 E Mar 31st, 2008 at 1:59 am

Seriously, the rest should pack their bags David Cook will win hands down. He’s smart at picking songs and way talented than anyone else on the show. Michael Johns and Cook for the final.

  11. 61 NoAir Mar 31st, 2008 at 1:59 am

LLC is a limited liabilty company instead of a corporation.

  12. 62 NoAir Mar 31st, 2008 at 2:08 am

I have had complete disdain for blake ever since the article quoting him as always performing commando and that one night his pants ripped and his “private” fell out, although he didnt say private. Even if it did happen, to put that in an interview shows what a schmuck he is.

  13. 63 carolina Mar 31st, 2008 at 2:43 am

NoAir, just means that he’s smart when it comes to taxes.

With an LLC and particularly if he’s investing in property or any property which will increase in value, which he has, he’ll pay less taxes on the increase in value.

Other than that, not much difference.
