14th annual Vallejo Outreach includes Mandisa performance

Pastor Scott Peterson of Church on the Hill still has a day left of prayer, but he’s already made one: Weather on Saturday that won’t roast thousands of people at the 14th annual Vallejo Outreach and late-afternoon concert by “American Idol” finalist Mandisa.

“Cool weather,” Peterson said of his wish.

Maybe a group prayer is in order for this one. The Weather Channel predicts a high of 86 in Valllejo, though stranger things have happened in this city.

Reality Check: ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Puts Dancers in Their Place

It was only a matter of time before I was going to have to take this year’s “So You Think You Can Dance” finalists off the pedestal I put them on … I just didn’t think it would be so soon.

After dazzling us last week by dominating in unfamiliar styles, this week, many of the same dancers crumbled while well within their comfort zones. It was like a group bait-and-switch, and top spot on the fraud list goes to Susie.

Fox News

Susie Garcia and Marquis Cunningham Say Goodbye

I definitely was surprised being eliminated,” admitted recently cut “So You Think You Can Dance” contestant Susie Garcia during a conference call with the media this morning. “I was looking forward to doing the tour as well. Unfortunately that didn’t happen for me.”

So, now that her time on the show is over, Susie will be heading back to Miami to resume her life as a high school teacher. And thanks to her time on the show, her students will be especially jazzed to see her. Susie’s students have supported her tirelessly, sending her scrapbooks and organizing “SYTYCD” viewing parties. “They just always would say that they look up to what I’ve done,” explained Susie.

Marquis Cunningham not ‘expecting’ ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ cut

Marquis Cunningham said he was just as surprised that he was eliminated as the studio audience, which gasped and booed at the announcement during last night’s live So You Think You Can dance fourth-season broadcast.

“I was surprised. I wasn’t expecting to go home last night and I wasn’t expecting to go home this early,” Cunningham told Reality TV World during a Friday conference call.

Susie Garcia “surprised” about ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ ouster

Susie Garcia concedes she was the “hot” So You Think You Can Dance fourth-season finalist, but also wishes she was able to prove she’s more than that before she was eliminated during last night’s live results show.

“I’ve always been known as that on the show, and I have so much more to offer. I’ve taken modern and ballet and flamenco. It’s a little downfall that they do call me hot,” she told reporters during a Friday conference call. “But I can’t help what other people see me as. I’m not just the hotness. I take my dance very seriously and I love the art.”

The evolution of Canadian Idol and host

Every season of Canadian Idol has its own signature. This year’s signature, Ben Mulroney insists, is talent. It’s of a higher calibre than it’s ever been before.

“In all honesty,” Mulroney said in an interview, “without a hint of hyperbole, I think that if our Top 24 live up to their potential this year, we have the possibility of discovering some true talent.

“And I’m not just talking about talent specific to Idol. I’m talking about talent that will eventually have careers, that people will latch onto.”

    Heh. What a buzz kill….

  3. 3 Skylark Jun 21st, 2008 at 10:15 am

I adore David and expected he would be accompanied by a parent, that is appropriate. But on the same bus as the other guys? So wrong. What a bunch a freaking 19 cheapskates.

Archie posted a My Space Bulletin today:

Today we did a bunch of press stuff for the tour. Carly and I were partners and it was pretty fun haha. She’s kinda like my mom of the group because she’s always making sure I’m doing what I’m supposed to. I also had a photoshoot today which was a lot of fun. I actually used to hate pictures and would like run from any camera until about last summer. Yeah I was pretty weird haha. But anyway I’ve gotten a lot better with cameras and don’t mind them, especially since they’re everywhere now. I can probably thank Fish for overcoming my fear of cameras, since she had one everywhere we hung out last summer and I started getting the hang of it.

Tomorrow I have some other music stuff for the album and then I’m going to the Wall-E movie premiere. I know I’m pretty immature, but Pixar movies are my favorite. They’re just really clever and I love being a kid lol. I can’t wait to see it. So tomorrow should be another fun day. That’s all for right now!

  5. 5 sciencefan Jun 21st, 2008 at 10:24 am

    Thanks for posting that, mj!
Poor Jason has great intentions of communicating with his fans, but he has some difficulty with the follow through. Not everyone is into blogging on the internet.

Cookie said Archie would be the noisy one, but I have a feeling that was said, tongue-in-cheek.

Allow me to analyze this. Drag queen make up applied with a spatula. Check. Spray tanned to a toxic level. Check. Banana hair extensions which must have come in contact with her cherry jello shots. Check. Vegas week necklines advertising the girls to the world. Check.
Nope, I think we got it right.

  8. 8 Jolene Jun 21st, 2008 at 11:15 am

The other 4 guys on that bus must be so thrilled to have a chaperone present for the entire 2 1/2 montes.
Regardless of the rumors, Jeff Archuleta is a parent… not what you want on a tour bus, I should think.
Does anybody know if they actually sleep on the bus? If they do, I really pity those poor boys. I wouldn’t want Dadchuleta as my roomate for one day, let alone 70-something days….

  9. 9 Frogpond Jun 21st, 2008 at 11:50 am

As for our question Jolene I believe they do sleep on the bus most of the time .I think the exception is when they will be in the same town for more than one night then I think they get a hotel.
(I only followed season 5 and thats what I read happened then )

  10. 10 mj Jun 21st, 2008 at 12:14 pm

The Idols get a hotel at every stop. They may only get to sleep there for a few hours, but the do get to check in somewhere after they arrive at the next tour stop on the bus.

Sleep is usually split between the tour bus and a few hours at the hotel on any given night. That’s how it worked last year.

  11. 11 Hisaki Jun 21st, 2008 at 12:45 pm

Archie has a friend named Fish? LOL. And I’m really liking these bulletin posts from Archie. They’re fun to read.

Well, Dadchuleta of course had to chaperone since his kid is underage (see, this is exactly why they should raise the age limit to 18 already), but now that he’ll be on that bus the entire time, we’re going to get a hell of a lot less “tour bus moments”. :( /selfish

  12. 12 Layla Jun 21st, 2008 at 1:27 pm

No matter how cool Dadchuleta may be, his presence will change the dynamics on the guys’ bus.

I read somewhere that his Mom was going to accompany him…guess not.

    according to that MyFoxKc video
they are singing the black eyed peas song “where is the love” on tour, right? did i hear it correctly?
is that the song they are singing while brooke is on the piano?

  14. 14 purplesmile Jun 21st, 2008 at 2:19 pm

I went a little “huh?!?” at Carly’s (myspace team’s) new blog, which quoted in full Richard Rushfield’s article “American Idol’ Tracker: Elegy for Carly Smithson.”

Also, in case anyone else missed it…on Carly’s myspace is posted an old interview (she was still talking about the possibility of doing a song on the tour with one Idol backing her on guitar and another on drums) with Gerry Ryan (I had never heard it before).

  15. 15 purplesmile Jun 21st, 2008 at 2:44 pm

Syesha in OK! Magazine (according to her myspace bulletin)

Former “Idol” hottie Syesha Mercado heats things up in a teeny bikini! Check out the smokin’ pics.

I can’t view this teaser video (outside the US, pffft!), but from the little screencap I can see, smokin’ Syesha seems about right. ;)

  16. 16 jan Jun 21st, 2008 at 4:15 pm

Just checked the video - yes - Syesha looks very nice in a bathing suit - several shots - girl looks like a model.

  17. 17 Jenn_AI Fan Jun 21st, 2008 at 4:24 pm

I think it’s a shame that the Archuletas did not agree to the other contestants “chaperoning” David A. The rapport he has with DC is great, he’s commented on Brooke and Carly “mothering” him, and it seems pretty clear that the whole group cares about him. Obviously, it’s a personal choice for them, and as parents it’s hard to question them too much, but I suspect that it would have been a great experience for him to be on the tour with just his tourmates.

What a great gig for Constantine, although I can’t stand to hear him sing. LOL

  20. 20 jpfan Jun 21st, 2008 at 8:46 pm

I’m not sure how many hijinks they’ll be. Cook and Archie will spend every free minute working on the albums. If the rest of them are smart they’ll be using their free time to line up deals/contracts/gigs for when the tour is over.

  21. 21 abbysee Jun 21st, 2008 at 9:47 pm

Wouldn’t it have been a bigger buzzkill if mamachuleta was ont he boys bus? Something tells me that they will appreciate a guy instead of a mom. Mama would be making sure they eat their peas and spinach. Jeff will probably make sure they pick up the beer cans and keep the girls from Archie.

  22. 22 skylight1219 Jun 21st, 2008 at 9:55 pm

Not sure where I read this, but, it seems that Archie was picked on a lot at school before he was on AI. So, I’m hoping he enjoys the fame. Same with Clay Aiken, he was bullied so much while in school, and, look at him now.

  23. 23 abbysee Jun 21st, 2008 at 10:33 pm

Skylight where did you hear that about Archie being bullied, I haven’t heard anything like that. And frankly, I am not so sure the look at him now in regards to Clay would be reassuring to Archie, since it seems to have come full circle for Clay.

  24. 24 skylight1219 Jun 21st, 2008 at 11:40 pm

I read about it on another blog. It has been a while ago, and, I just can’t remember where. It said they would give Archie wedgies. Regarding Clay. Whether some of the things are true or not, he made his decisions in life, and, has to live by them. I’m no one’s judge. I know that a lot of stuff said about him simply isn’t true. But, that goes with fame.

    That’s really funny!

Funny, sure. However, too easy. Sure, her dancing wasn’t up to par. She didn’t have any training and obviously was a “street” dancer, but I thought she did a decent job with the waltz. She also is a high school teacher, so she must have a college degree. There could very well be more to her.

Momchuleta wouldn’t have been on the guys’ bus. I don’t the Sanjaya’s sister was. I also don’t see Jeff picking up beer cans. YMMV.

  28. 28 Trina Jun 22nd, 2008 at 1:35 am

I thought I’d put this here..the other day there was some speculation on who Cookie’s manager is and someone mentioned they thought Simon Fuller was. This article about the 20 most powerful managers and producers to the stars confirms it:

    Life and Health Guardian

Recently he took on the global representation of Claudia Schiffer, adding her to a management roster that also includes Annie Lennox and fashion designer Roland Mouret, as well as Idol graduates such as Kelly Clarkson and this year’s winner, former bartender David Cook. Future plans include breaking Matt Lucas and David Walliams in America.

  29. 29 Jolene Jun 22nd, 2008 at 5:56 am

David Cook article/interview from a Tulsa Newspaper: ‘American’ Made.
I find the behind the scenes descriptions interesting, maybe even moreso than the interview itself (there isn’t much of it).

It’s been about a month since his slam-dunk, 12-million-vote victory on “American Idol,” and Cook is still in high demand.
“I can maybe get you 10 or 15 minutes on the phone with him while he’s in the car on his way somewhere,” a publicist says.
He makes no promises, and wonders: “Can you e-mail questions instead?”

David is still not getting any sleep, it seems.

    where did you hear that?

as for the chaperones on the bus
jordin and sanjaya must have had one last year ? no?

  31. 31 Jenn_AI Fan Jun 22nd, 2008 at 9:39 am

I read that Jordin’s parents agreed to have Melinda chaperone her on the tour.

That Tulsa World article was great.

  32. 32 sleepyinsomniac Jun 22nd, 2008 at 12:47 pm

Sucks about Dadchuleta joining the guys on the bus. I hope it doesn’t put a damper on any Cook/Castro/Johns shenanigans. Come to think of it, maybe David A can just hang in the girls bus in exchange for Carly hanging with the guys in the boys’ bus. That plus some vlogs from MJ would be the perfect tour scenario for me.

  33. 33 Revolver Jun 22nd, 2008 at 2:40 pm

C’mon Dad … on the tour bus?

That seems wholly inappropriate. Even 13 and 14 year old kids are horrified if their parents volunteer to be the chaperone on field trips. I can’t imagine how mortifying bringing your dad along to be the chaperone on a professional music tour bus would be.

I feel bad for Archie and the guys.

Couldn’t they have just assigned Brooke to be the chaperone and check in on him? She was the nanny for twins, I’m sure she could handle making sure Arch flossed nightly .. or whatever.

And Syesha … hotness. She looks like a model because, uhmmm, she was a model prior to Idol lol.
