‘Idol’ star and teenager Paris Bennett is pregnant
“American Idol” 2006 contestant Princess P is becoming a mommy.
Paris Bennett is expecting a baby girl in October and will be 20 when mommyhood arrives.
“This makes five generations,” an overjoyed Jamecia Bennett, told me Thursday.
Jamecia, who like her daughter and mother is a singer, is absolutely over the moon about being a first-time grandmother.
“I’m proud of how she did it. I was 16 when I got pregnant,” said Jamecia.
HICKS IGNITES ‘GREASE’
First, “Grease” - which vaulted right over the critics to box office glory. It’s playing to sold-out houses and is grossing nearly $800,000 a week.
It got a little lift from the Tonys, but its real draw this summer is “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks, who’s playing Teen Angel.
An insider says Hicks is worth at least $150,000 in extra ticket sales a week.

I was in seventh grade, so that makes me how old? Twelve or 13.
No Wonder Kellie Pickler Likes High-Glam Style
When she first appeared on American Idol, Kellie Pickler looked like the farm-girl next door, with a sweet smile, long hair and tight jeans. Fast forward a few years (and a few sessions with pro stylists) and the smile is still there, but Pickler is now a glamour goddess, favoring high heels and haute couture gowns. “My hair is a lot shorter now,†she says as she describes her new high-glam style, which includes a variety of sassy hairstyles and more defined makeup. “I just have the greatest team of people around me, and they’ve helped me develop a look that fits me. I’m happy with it, and it’s most important that you’re happy with what you see when you look in the mirror.â€
Idols Open in Branson to Energetic Fans
Six young performers, who were thrust into the world of fans and fame as “American Idol†contestants, sat and talked about their personal goals, their fears and their faith with about 40 guests at the Radisson Hotel on Friday, June 20, before their show opened at the Grand Palace.
These six past Idol contestants will be performing through the end of June. A parade of Idol contestants will make up the “American Idol†show at the Grand Palace through Oct. 26, on Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Studdard embraces change
American Idol-turned-stage performer Ruben Studdard will take another turn Saturday by marrying his girlfriend of two years, Surata Zuri McCants, at Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook.
But Studdard, who crooned and rocked his way to the top of the star-making reality show in 2003, said marriage isn’t the only change in his life these days.
“I worked for about two months with (super producers) Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis putting together some new music,” Studdard said Thursday in a phone interview. “I’ll have a new album coming out by the end of the year.”
Blake Lewis talks about split with Arista
“Leaving Arista is a positive,” Lewis tells EW.com about his recent split with the label. “The industry is eating itself and I’m not trying to eat off their plate.” Yesterday, the American Idol season 6 runner-up blogged about the news, and how he became aware of it, on his MySpace page, writing: “I was just wishing they would have put the word out to me over the last couple months, because let’s face it…. Waiting SUCKS!!!! Oh well. I guess the right time was now. No biggy. I’m still with 19 Recordings and I got a tour and new record on the way. Now all I need is a home for my music. Some place warm and tropical…”
Valley a hotbed for reality-TV stars
Forget about copper: The Valley’s best-known export could be reality-TV stars.
The Real World’s Rachel Campos was the first modern reality star to capture national attention. The past 10 years have seen even more locals follow in her designer footprints, with Brooke White’s tearful stint on American Idol being the latest to win the hearts of viewers. For all the (guilty) pleasure they have given us, here is a grateful look at some of our favorite TV faces.
‘Heroes’ honors ordinary who do the extraordinary
A new awards show has been born in Hollywood. I was privileged to be present at the Universal Hilton June 13 for the taping of an inspiring evening honoring ordinary people who have done — and continue to do — extraordinary things.
These stories and more are linked by the reflections of such celebrities as Bryant Gumbel, Joan Lunden and Iron Man’s Faran Tahir. Musical performances — “The Rainbow Connection” by composer Paul Williams, songs by American Idol contestants Bo Bice and Ace Young, and the title song “Heroes” by the Greater Los Angeles Gospel Choir — round out the show.
Recap of the 2008 BET Awards
The 2008 BET Awards proved to be another interesting star-studded event, with plenty of eye candy and more than a few eyebrow-raising experiences. From the red carpet to the stage, celebs Nu Skool and Old Skool came out to represent the evening’s shiniest stars.
Following Usher’s lip-synching session on stage was the Incredibly Uncomfortable Duo, Jennifer Hudson and Terrence Howard. Despite both of their fairly commendable skills in music and on screen, the two appeared at a loss where any real chemistry is concerned.
Coming Attractions: Honey, let Hudson tell you about ‘Secret Life of Bees’
After playing Carrie Bradshaw’s loyal assistant in Sex and the City: The Movie, Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson next buzzes into theaters in The Secret Life of Bees. In the film, based on Sue Monk Kidd’s beloved novel, Hudson is the friend and caretaker of Dakota Fanning, who flees her love-barren home to live with a trio of beekeeping sisters (Queen Latifah, Sophie Okonedo and Alicia Keys).
Kenny Chesney, Taylor Swift stay number one
Kenny Chesney’s “Better as a Memory” and Taylor Swift’s debut CD topped the Billboard country song and album charts for the week ending July 5 for the second straight week.
On the song chart, Blake Shelton moved up one to second with “Home,” while Montgomery Gentry’s “Back When I Knew It All” was third, up three. Carrie Underwood was down two to fourth with “Last Name,” while Alan Jackson’s “Good Time” was up two to fifth.
Chris Daughtry returns home
A former Fluvanna County resident who went from “American Idol’’ finalist to the top of the charts will be back on his home turf for a concert next month.
Daughtry, featuring singer Chris Daughtry, will perform at the Paramount Theater at 7 p.m. July 21.
Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
All-day music fest set for Saturday in St. Johns County
It’s been an up and down couple of years for Bo Bice.
Back in 2005, in Season 4 of American Idol, he was the seasoned rocker, the long-haired Southern guy, in a show that specializes in bright and shiny new pop faces and voices. But he lasted long enough to come in second to Carrie Underwood and cleared the path for Taylor Hicks and Chris Daughtry, a couple of other seasoned rockers, the next year.

Storms Wash Out Opening Night of Country Stampede
Weather put a damper on Thursday night’s big acts at Country Stampede at Tuttle Creek State Park in Manhattan.
Due to heavy rain and lightning, organizers pulled the plug on the headliners, cancelling Kellie Pickler, .38 Special and Charlie Daniels.
Fortunately, most in the crowd seemed to take it in stride. Tthey said the weekend’s about more than the music - it’s also about hanging out with friends and relaxing.
Blake Shelton guests on Nashville Star
Blake Shelton will be making an appearance on NBC’s Nashville Star this Monday, June 30. “Family Week” is the show’s emphasis, and Shelton will be performing his current hit “Home,” from his recently released “Pure BS Deluxe Edition” album. The 2-hour special will air live on NBC 9-11 p.m. eastern and again on CMT on July 4 from 9-11 p.m. eastern. Shelton’s “Home” is currently second on the R&R Country Singles Chart.
‘So You Think You Can Dance’: Learning Disorder
We learned about the ”hidden” talents/quirks/tattoos of the dancers during last night’s So You Think You Can Dance, but, oh, did we learn so much more than that. We learned that some 40 years ago Nigel once lifted the late dancing legend Cyd Charisse. We learned that guest judge Adam Shankman can exceed Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy both in insight and in borderline obnoxiousness. We learned that no one, ever, will be able to make the quickstep anything more than the SYTYCD equivalent of brussels sprouts.
Canadian Idol Recap - Wednesday
In an effort to avoid boring viewers with dragged out results drama, the season’s first results show features all of the contestants performing group numbers. And tonight’s results have the girls dropping like flies.
Martin Kerr, Shaun Francisco, Lindsay Robins and Paul Clifford perform “Have You Ever See The Rain?†and Lindsay Barr and Adam Castelli perform “Midnight Hour.†Jessica Sheppard, Mookie Morris, Earl Stevenson and Mark Day perform “Old Time Rock And Roll.â€
Canadian Idol: I Left My Heart With Shaun Francisco
Canadian Idol made its first round of cuts from the top 24 on Wednesday night, and the already stacked male-female imbalance was increased again. Three women and one man (who shouldn’t have been cut) got the axe.
Lindsay Barr, Tetiana Ostapowych, Lindsay Robins and Shaun Francisco were all sent packing. The crowd was quiet as the results were revealed, which led me to believe they also shared my surprise. I guess I don’t know what Canada’s looking for in a singer, because my picks were way off.
Canadian Idol Recap: The Top 24 Results Show
In a departure from its typical results show format, this week Canadian Idol decided to have the top 24 perform a musical showcase first before the results are announced.
First up was Lindsay Robins, Paul, Shaun and Mark singing “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?†It was very well done. It was nice to see no one really trying to outshine the others when they sang in unison, but rather the four embracing the group format and working together.
According to Ben, the performers picked their group, which kind of surprises me.

There’s a theatre column in the NY Post today about Taylor Hicks and his smash success in Grease. It’s super positive about his effect on ticket sales and the show.
here’s the link:
http://www.nypost.com/seven/06272008/entertainment/theater/hicks_ignites_grease_117373.htm
The Post may be a rag but the theatre column is very reputable.
Wow, thanks for that tidbit jpfan. Great news.
Say what?
I’m putting money on Paris not getting married. :|
Thanks. I’m going to stick that up in headlines
Jpfan
You are quick! I was getting ready to post it too. I’m guessing if the $150000 is right that would be about 200 additional seats at each performance right?
by the looks of the ring in the picture, whomever Paris is with is doing alright for himself. I am glad they are attempting to keep some privacy…besides the talking to the media thing…
I knew Taylor would shake up Broadway. He does make me proud.
I said on the 6-26-08 thread that I was glad KLC and Andy were moving to Nashville. It was so funny that Andy wanted to know if Tennessee has woods. All of those videos were really interesting. They always seem to pair KLC and DC in those interviews. And the others are always paired with the same ones. (Remiele/MJ, Brooke/Chikezie, Carly/ DA, Jason/Syesha.) I wonder why they don’t mix them up a bit.
I saw two Broadway shows this week (friends in town). I got my tkts at the half price booth and I was on line with all the tourists. Taylor is a great draw because most actors in Bway musicals are unknowns.
(By the way the two plays I saw: August:Osage Country and The 39 Steps were both great and I didn’t pay full price. Early in the week, Grease was up there too)
Nice going Taylor!!!! Rock it out on broadway!
Re Paris: If I were her mom I would NOT be thrilled but whatever. Guess we all see things differently.
Oh dear. That article on Paris just confuzzles my brain. Nothing has been straightforward and “normal” with that girl since she left that show. I’m so saddened by some of the stuff in the article that I will just say best wishes to Paris and I hope everything works out for her.
And I know that Blake rubs some people the wrong way, but I appreciated the article on him. Surprised that he would expect Arista records to do anything else BUT make him wait until they had slowed everything down to a v..e…r…y..p..a…i…n..f..u…l ending though.
I appreciated the article on Blake also. A lot of the idols deserve to do well. A lot of them work very hard!
I am so happy for Taylor! He deserves it. I still think that he was great on Idol, and he is a great entertainer. Love to see him get more gigs on Broadway. Go Taylor! You Da Man!
I think Taylor needs a variety tv show…w/guests etc. Lots of music.
Grease Taylor = Box Office Gold
No surprise.
In the tradition of the great Glen Campbell show of years (and years!) back. Such a forum for great musicians and performers back in the day. The emphasis was always on the music.
Sadly, this could never happen, but wouldn’t such a show be fun!
Way to go Taylor! You sure make me proud. HE so deserves the accolades he’s receiving after being panned by the media for so long as a “flop.” Now, if he just goes into acting, so I can see him light up the big silver screen, I’ll be happy
Why no auditions in Texas this season? Seems their 4th runnerup hailed from that neck of the woods.
“I’m proud of the way she did it.” ???????
I can only see myself saying those words if my daughter got married first, and then got pregnant.
Otherwise, I don’t think I’d be going around using the word “proud”… not that I wouldn’t accept my daughter and support her and stuff… but PROUD? No.
that article on Paris mentions that her great-grandmother is 75 years old. Little Egypt will have a great-great grandmother to care for her!! Oh man!
Sciencefan–I can only see myself saying those words if my daughter said “I’ve been accepted to medical school.”
I must admit I enjoy living in this weird altered universe where Taylor is not getting completely slammed every day. He’s got a lot of talent and it seems some writers are just starting to notice that instead of the gray.
I hope the best for Paris. I enjoyed her in Season 5 and, while I don’t think pregnancy now is the best plan, it is what it is. 20 is better than 16, and she’s probably a lot better off financially than her mom was, so maybe that’s what her mom was trying to say. I’d like to think most moms wouldn’t be proud to have their kid pregnant outside of marriage, but at least she should have money to support the kid.
“Proud” can mean many things. Proud of the way she’s handling it, proud that she’s in a solid relationship, who knows? At least everyone seems happy about it.
As for the marriage part, I guess I wouldn’t be too upset if my daughter got pregnant while in a long term relationship with someone she was going to marry anyway. But I would sure be pissed if she was 19 at the time. Oh well. Good luck to her anyway! No go make me a decent album! LOL.
Considering that Paris’ mom had her when she was 16, I am sure her mom knows the pitfalls of early motherhood. That being said, Paris was in a relationship since she was on the show. Quite possibly this guy is the same guy, and they are in a stable relationship. Maybe that is the pride her mother is feeling. She’s not poor, 16, or without resources, or role models. While not ideal, not Jamie Lynn Spears either. Wishing Paris a healthy, happy baby, and a kick ass cd that your fans have been waiting for.
Taylor on Broadway, making a success of a show that has been widely panned is sweet inspiration indeed. There is no spinning this, the show is putting asses in the seats because of Taylor who? Lurves it!

That’s wonderful news about Taylor. I knew he could do it! Pretty good ticket sales. It’s not easy to generate these sales with the economy the way it is. Bravo Taylor!
and to think Paris, all it took was one pill once a day.
“I’m proud of how she did it. I was 16 when I got pregnant,†said Jamecia.
I’m sorry, but that is a terrible influence. Granted she is just trying to be supportive, this couldn’t have come at a worse time in Paris’ career. Who wants their daughter/granddaughter pregnant at 16? I dont understand that at all.
Even that “one pill once a day” isn’t 100% guaranteed pregnancy prevention.
David has added a new video to his youtube channel

This new blog is just awesome! I love the funny pop-ups. And Andy Skib is there! Love it!
omg the subtitles!
And it’s really pathetic how excited I am over the fact he’s getting a fancy new camera for this.
The July issue of Seventeen Magazine has seventeen questions for the Davids.
DC’s favorite fast food is Burger King’s chicken sandwich. Mine too!
They were also asked when they had their first kiss.

I have this theory that Andy’s not out in LA just for the sunshine and his own recording. I’m thinking he is going to be in the band. And that a lot of this Andy pr we’ve been seeing has been about testing the fan-waters to see how we like him. We like him!!! I’m guessing he won’t mind turning from lead singer to back-up AT ALL, heh. What a cutie. And how nice for DC if his buddy was there all the time. They’re both such guys. Love ‘em both.
That’s my theory. . .also known as wishful thinking. :)
p.s. Cook’s eyes look amazing in that vid.
pps. I think Andy’s been singing back-up on the new record, yes I do.
I like your theory, spritely , and I don’t think it’s just wishful thinking. The fact that Andy has been with DC during some Idol related events (Leno, and now this “Magazine shoot”) sure makes it seem like he’s involved right now, and very well might get even more involved once they start putting a band together. I wouldn’t be at all surprised.
I love Andy, so I’d also be quite delighted to know he’s there for David. They’ve been friends for years, and Andy’s pretty awesome himself.
From what I understand, Andy does not play an instrument, so I’m not sure what kind of role he could play in David’s band. Backup singer? That would be kind of unusual for a rock band. David may not necessarily get 100% approval on who plays in his band, either.
Perhaps he’s singing bgvs on his record.
I was thinking Andy plays the guitar, but I may be wrong about that.
I do think backup on DC’s record is a real possibility.
I had the same reaction to the “proud” comment about Paris’ pregnancy. It seems an odd choice of words, but I kind of understand where she’s coming from. My stepdaughter just turned 21, and we are proud of her for a lot of reasons. She had a rough few years during her teens, but seems to have gotten her act together and just earned her associates degree. I’ve said more than once that I’m relieved she made it to 21 without getting pregnant! Not exactly proud of that, but certainly glad. Just my two cents.
It is actually complete PR spin. Look at the real numbers as opposed to that PR Fluff piece. No doubt that Taylor has plenty of fans and that they are flocking to see him in Grease but the numbers don’t reflect a $150,000 jump in weekly ticket sales as the article claims. His first 2 weeks show no appreciable increase and the third week is up, as are all the other musicals, due to summer break for most students. Family friendly musicals showed the greatest increases and serious plays showed declines.
http://www.broadwayworld.com/grossesshow.cfm?show=GREASE
I don’t care what kind of a spin they put on the sales figures for Grease. I’ll take it!
I’m of the opinion that Taylor’s role in Grease is causing increases in sales. I’d love to see it and I was not a huge Taylor fan during AI. Taylor has got it going on when he’s on the stage in front of a live audience. I’ll bet he rocks the house!
new tour promo pic?
American Idol David Cook Ready for the Road, Fans
That’s great news for Taylor. Finally, some positive press for him!
Paris Bennett’s Mom is proud of her daughter getting pregnant at 20! What an odd this to say! Sorry, but Paris will have a tough time of it. Trying to launch a career and having a baby on top of that! Does she have any idea at all how much work a baby is? Don’t these young Moms know anything about birth control?
I posted the Taylor article after seeing it in the Post. It’s a bit weird that the numbers in it are wrong. Did the writer just reprint a PR release or is for real? Mmm.
Yeah, I think the numbers are skewered for Grease, but, I’ll still take the positive spins coming from this gig. As Pauler once said, (sometimes she does make sense) Taylor was born to be on a stage. He has boat loads of charisma, and, that’s something money can’t buy.
Well the Broadwayworld site quotes Grease capacity is up to 98.8% this week and the crowds do seem to love him. It’s difficult to put any negative spin on that scenario, although it doesn’t prevent some people from trying.
Maybe Taylor will try another Broadway gig after this one is up. Still, I believe he would rather have a successful music career, rather than Broadway. I’m really hoping Taylor will rock out more on his next CD or going more country will be great too. But, PLEASE NO MORE LAME MUSIC!
I’m not sure that there’s ever been an accurate “number” or statistic reported on any subject in the media. Regarding Taylor specifically, the 700,000 sales figure for his album, is still being bandied about since it was first reported a year ago. It hasn’t ever been updated to show any kind of an increase in any press piece that I’ve seen. Even at 100 to 300 cd’s per week, since the first figure was published, there would have been a significant change in that sales number. The world-wide sales figures have increased steadily so it doesn’t make sense that the other number hasn’t moved at all.
My point is that we listen to, and read articles stating statistics and numbers every day. How many of the statistics published daily are 100% accurate? Does anyone know? Does anyone question the numbers they read in the papers?
With that in mind, whether or not the numbers in the positive press pieces regarding Taylor’s effect on the Grease Box Office, are completely accurate, or are severely inflated, doesn’t matter to me one iota. What matters, is that by all accounts, Taylor Hicks has taken to the Broadway stage with the same charisma and talent that he’s always shown, and has been very successful in this endeavor. He has brought the energy in the show to a higher level and he has been embraced by the public - who is showing its appreciation by spending their money at the Brooks Atkinson Theater Box Office.
Someday - maybe tomorrow, or next week, or next month, some credible person from the Grease Box Office is sure to produce an irrefutable number of tickets sold - during the weeks that Taylor was in the production.
Until that irrefutable proof is in someone’s hands, we only have what’s reported in the media to go by. And what was reported today was that Taylor Hicks has brought Grease a “windfall!”
Maybe Paris’s mom just meant to say, she is proud of her, and, not in the sense that she’s proud she’s pregnant. As we all know, the media sometimes has a way of “putting a little twist” on things.
Actually, Ken Barnes keeps track of all the Idols sales numbers. The numbers are rounded, but they are accurate. Taylor has been selling around 100 albums a week for a while now. His current total is 702,000.
By the way, I’ll be editing posts that don’t meet the guidelines of the blog. Be careful not to become defensive when your favorite Idol is criticized.
“Way to go Taylor! You sure make me proud. HE so deserves the accolades he’s receiving after being panned by the media for so long as a “flop.†Now, if he just goes into acting, so I can see him light up the big silver screen, I’ll be happy”
Skylight, I wouldn’t be one bit surprised to see Taylor try TV or movie acting next (after his new CD drops), especially if it’s a show/movie that’s music-themed. With all the positive feedback he’s getting for Grease, I’d be willing to bet that he’s already receiving some offers. :)
Although I never did consider Taylor a flop, I am excited about the positive press! It still saddens me the way AI has treated him; however, it is in the past. I look forward to the day they bring him back on the show and highlight his successes.
I thought Paris’ Mom was proud that her daughter is engaged and will get married. I am proud that my daughters chose college, marriage, and then babies. May God bless Paris with a healthy baby girl, and success in her career.
At 19, she isn’t a child, she’s an adult woman who can make her own choices. So I’m not sure what all of the hand-wringing is about.
I hope I get to see Grease before Taylor’s run is up! I keep meaning to find a day to go do it but I’ve been swamped with life. Or maybe I’ll get really lucky and he’ll do a NY concert after Grease is done!
