Reality hosts to front Emmys show
This year’s Emmy Awards will be presented by the five contenders for its new best reality TV show host prize, organisers have announced.
American Idol host Ryan Seacrest will join Dancing With The Stars’ Tom Bergeron and Survivor’s Jeff Probst in fronting US TV’s biggest awards show.
Model and Project Runway presenter Heidi Klum and US Deal or No Deal host Howie Mandel complete the line-up.
The awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on 21 September.
‘American Idol’ auditioners will face heavy odds
You have a better chance of being the next “American Idol” than you do of getting hit by lightning. But not that much better.
Last year, more than 100,000 people turned out for “Idol” auditions across the country. And, of course, there was only one winner.
Your chances of getting struck by lightning are somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 in 300,000. The thousands of “Idol” hopefuls who go to the EnergySolutions Arena to get wristbands today, Monday or Tuesday and audition on Tuesday have only a slightly better chance than that of impressing judge Simon Cowell.
More Idol Headlines After the Jump…
If you think you’re the next ‘Idol,’ here’s your chance
Alright, Mr. Cowell, Salt Lake City is ready for its close-up.
Perhaps because of the success of David Archuleta and dancers on “So You Think You Can Dance,” FOX TV officials are coming back to Utah.
Auditions for the next season of “American Idol” will be in Utah for the first time July 29 at EnergySolutions Arena in downtown Salt Lake City.
If you are planning on auditioning today, here are some things to keep in mind before you wait in line:
‘American Idol’: Auditions in Phoenix a success
So here are my impressions of the first ever “American Idol” auditions in Arizona.
- Logistically, everything (at least on the outside of the arena) was very well done. It was like when they implode those older Las Vegas casinos. A lot of thought and precision went into the entire process. Rather than making everyone enter through Gate 1, Idol contestants were let into the gates closest to them in an extremely orderly fashion. All of the Fox security people that I witnessed were courteous and polite and even encouraging to the thousands of nervous 16-28 year olds outside of the venue. They were all in by 7:15 a.m. and people began leaving at around 9 a.m.
- Contestants were also very well-behaved. Granted I probably missed out on a thing or two, but it really seemed like problem Idols were kept to a minimum.
Carrie Underwood: Out at LAX
Always willing to flash a smile for the paparazzi, Carrie Underwood was spotted showing off her pearly whites yesterday at LAX International Airport.
The American Idol babe looked cute and casual in a “Flashdance” style off-the shoulder sweatshirt with a pair of white shorts and a massive gold handbag.
Center’s new trees to honor artists
The Eagles, Celine Dion, Neil Diamond and Carrie Underwood will stand outside the BOK Center for a very long time.
All 61 trees — a variety of maples, elms and oaks — that circle the new arena will be dedicated to an artist who performs or an event that takes place at the new venue during its inaugural year.
Each will be recognized with a stainless steel plaque located on a concrete base in front of a tree, BOK Center General Manager John Bolton said.
Rock Against Diabetes Announces New Venue For Event
Due to the overwhelming response and growth of the August 23, 2008 Rock Against Diabetes show, the event organizers have decided that the only solution to handle the demand and offer the best experience for fans, was to move from the soundstage to a venue.

Jesse McCartney and Jordin Sparks set to let the sparks fly in Atlantic City
Two new faces have been added to the already hot summer entertainment lineup in Atlantic City: wunderkinder Jesse McCartney and Jordin Sparks. They’ll play the Ballroom at venerable Boardwalk Hall on Aug. 22 after agreeing last week to tour together through August.
Sparks, 18, won the sixth edition of “American Idol” in May 2007. McCartney, 21, once the youngest member of the boy band Dream Street, released his third studio album, “Departure,” in May.
“Jordin has the most incredible voice,” McCartney said in a statement. “I can’t wait.”
‘So You Think You Can Dance’: Will Wingfield, the morning after
During a conference call with the media today, recently eliminated “So You Think You Can Dance” contestant Will Wingfield opened up about his path as a dancer. When asked why he got serious about dance, Will replied, “I think just wanting to be better at it, ya know. Wanting to be the guy that all the girls were talking about and the one that was winning all the medals at the competitions. I wanted to be awesome at it. I didn’t want to just do it for play anymore.”
Will answered questions thoughtfully over the course of the call, but it was clear that talking to us was the last thing he wanted to be doing. And who could blame him? “Of course, when you learn something like that on national television it’s a lot to take in,” reflected Will, “but I’m so happy for Twitch that he gets to stay another week and show America what he’s got.”
Mary Murphy would like to see a hip-hop dancer win ‘Dance’s title
Despite being So You Think You Can Dance’s resident ballroom expert, judge Mary Murphy said she’s ready to scream for a hip-hop dancer during the show’s upcoming finale.
“I’d like to see a hip hop dancer win the show,” Murphy told OK! Weekly in a Thursday report, specifically singling out remaining finalists Twitch Boss and Joshua Allen.
“I think Twitch and Josh have brought so much to the show… Either of them would be a great dance ambassador.”

Cat is better than all of them! Why no Cat??
I 2nd that - where is Cat? Though I truly love Howie Mandell, always have.
I’d love to see Cat there. She is a great host.
May I just say that I really like Ryan? I think he’s great!
Cat should be nominated in the place of Heidi Klum. She’s pretty useless on Project Runway. I swear, all she does is say “you’re out.” Tim Gunn should be nominated for an Emmy instead of her, but of course, he’s not a host. Heh.
I 100% agree with Sarah. Tim Gunn kicks all their butts.
I love Cat and think she should be nominated, but I also think Heidi is pretty darned perfect for that role. To me, she’s got just the right touch of sassy plus hi-falutin’ superior attitude plus fashion knowledge. Also, rejecting the fashion designers in the kind way Cat that rejects the dancers just doesn’t seem to me that it would work on Runway where everybody specializes in Catty. Instead of Cat. Hee. YMMV, of course.
AOL Reality Poll
Sorry…in the above post, I couldn’t figure out how to link. Hopefully I did it right this time!
The link above is to a fun poll that AOL did. AI and several people associated with it were nominated. It is fun and interesting and I thought you all might like to check it out.
My apologies if this has previously been posted.
Okay… I’m sorry… who’s Cat?
Cat is the host of So You Think You Can Dance :)
Yep, and she’s great. You can tell she really cares about the dancers, especially reading the backstage reports. :-)
I do think Ryan is excellent. He runs a well oiled machine.
