Before American Idol title, they were hopefuls just like everyone else
Once upon a time the seven previous winners of American Idol started in the same place: mere hopefuls looking to get a break. They were everything from cocktail waitresses to bar singers. Some lived paycheck to paycheck. Now, thousands of people are expected to line up outside Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena on Wednesday with the same dreams of making it big. Here’s a look at the past seven who did.
Carly Smithson: Classic rock dreams
When the American Idols Live tour comes to Hartford’s XL Center tonight and to Bridgeport’s Arena at Harbor Yard on Sept. 6, the talented Top 10 finalists will stick to a format that, for one, sixth-place finisher Carly Smithson enjoys.
The Dublin, Ireland, native said contestants will perform individual sets in the order in which they were eliminated from the hit TV series, beginning with 10th-place finalist Chikezie Eze and continuing through Smithson. At that point, the bottom six will perform U2’s “Pride (In The Name Of Love)” before the countdown resumes.

American Idol is all in the showmanship
If youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re going to have one of the biggest cattle calls in North America, it may as well be in one of Missourià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s famous stockyards. What better location for tryouts for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ than a part of town accustomed to judging steers and heifers?
This part of Kansas City used to be where livestock was herded, tagged and inspected. For three days, Team Idol did almost the same thing with people from as far away as South Dakota and Virginia.
Shouldn’t Elvis have a say about who he’s dueting with?
Oh wait, he’s dead. But why should that matter? First that Celine Dion duet on Idol, then “Viva Viagra,” and now Amy Grant.
Dude, it’s gonna be a Blue Christmas…from beyond the grave.
Anyone else cringing at this idea? Speak up! (And I’m not bashing Ms. Underwood; in fact, I broke down and spent 99 cents on “Last Name” while I was writing this item. It’s true y’all!)

If you need debriefing, here are two young stars that made their mark through music and television. In McCartneyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s case, he starred in the short-lived WB series Summerland and was the youngest member of the defunct boy band Dream Street. How successful is he now? Besides recently enjoying his first charttopper with Leavinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢, consider that he also co-wrote Leona Lewisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ worldwide hit Bleeding Love and starred as himself on Hannah Montana back when Miley Cyrus still had to wear a blonde wigs to be recognized.
Alicia Keys bound for Perth
Singer Alicia Keys will return to Perth in December to headline An Evening on the Green.
American Idol winner and Australian chart-topper, Jordin Sparks, will be the support act.
The Perth concert will be Sparksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ first live performance in Australia following the success of her number one Australian single No Air. Adelaide hip-hop funk act Lowrider will open the show.
Idol star sings at Christian concert
When Chris Sligh was a finalist on the 2007 season of American Idol, he was known for making people laugh.
Yesterday Sligh was still cracking jokes as he sat around with his bandmates before a special concert of Christian rock music last night at the West Forsyth Family YMCA.
However, Sligh’s attitude turned serious when he spoke about what his art means to him.
“I have a passion for making good music,” Sligh said.

No ‘walk of shame’ for booted ‘Canadian Idol’ finalists, say producers
Mark Lysakowski, supervising producer for the hit CTV reality series, says while contestants ranging from the fourth-place finisher to the 10th have to leave the mansion after their ousting (the Top 3 remain until the show is over), it doesn’t happen abruptly like it does in some other reality programs.
“It’s not like other shows where it’s like they have to do the walk of shame out,” he says, noting the rejected hopefuls still have to do press the day after their elimination (another contestant will get the boot on Tuesday night).
“It’s very actually breezy, if you will. But usually for the most part, they will leave within one to two days of being eliminated from the show.”

I heard about that Elvis Christmas cd! I guess it is true then. Honestly, I think it is creepy and I hope I don’t accidently hear any of those songs on the radio when our local stations go to the Christmas music format.
There was a brief mention of Jason Castro today in the New York Times Style section in an article on the resurgence of the ukelele. If you click on more pictures you will see the picture of him that was in today’s paper.

Oye Vei Another Day
So before I start my normal randomness of a blog I am going to answer the most asked question in my last blog.
Q: WHY DO YOU CALL DAVID DARREN?
A: Top 24 he decided during a group number rehersal, that my name was just too long to say. So he asked if I had any nicknames. i gave him a couple of options but none were to his liking. SO then he called me Darren. But me being the not so clever of a nick name person, I called him “Darren” back. He said there couldnt be 2 darren’s so it stuck to him and long story short after nick names from him like “uuungawa, poi, and moogoo gai pan” my new name which seems permamnent, is RAMAMA.
Now to my oh so random blog. Yesterday as I was doing my after shower routine getting ready while still in my towel, with my music on, I heard running up and down the halls. I was assuming it was the bellman since it was near bag call time. So just to make sure i told my bf (whom I had been on the phone with the whole time having a full on conversation) that I would look out to see what was going on. I looked through the peep hole and there were two kids around probably 10-13 outside my door with their ears stuck on it. I was SO MAD.This is where NICE ramiele goes away. It was a total invasion of privacy, I was on the phone for one, and two, when we arent on the bus the hotels we’re put up in are our homes. So why in the world would they think it was okay to do that. I then screamed through the door and said “Can I freaking help you” I was mad. What people dont seem to understand that when we are on tour the buses are our homes but the hotel’s we’re put up at are our homes as well, even if for that one night. Im happy to sign autographs 24/7 and take pictures if capable but not in our homes. Its as if someone would go to our front yard look through the window and holler at you to come out and sign for them. Its just not human. And completely disrespectful. I really was so bummed that people would stoop so low. Anyways we’ve been informed that from that point on we are not allowed to stop for pictures and autographs at our hotels. So there should be no point to be making your way to the hotels.
I other news… MY BDAY is coming up. I was so excited that a fan gave me a blank music book so now I can finally write music. Only problem now is Im instrumentless. My sister tought me before I left how to play the guitar. Im not amazing at it but I know enough to make up a song or two. So Im hoping for my birthday I can get an acoustic guitar. My sister has like 5. But those are her babies. So there goes that. I guess I’ll wait for my mom or bf or something to get me one. Hopefully!!! I cant wait to spend my bday with you guys

She’s certainly much nicer than I would be if I were in that situation. I’d have hotel security up there in a hot minute to scare the hell out of these stupid kids (and, by proxy, their enabling parents).
A really hot duet with Jordin and Jesse Mccartney doing the Michael Jackson song “The Way You Make Me Feel” from their current tour. they should record this together.
