Idol Headlines for 9/1/08
‘Idol’ singers present a patriotic show
Why did the American Idols cross the river?
Because of the Republican National Convention.
After six consecutive years at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, the “American Idols Live” tour landed Sunday at Target Center in Minneapolis. It’s a nonpartisan but American-loving tour, featuring Kristy Lee Cook’s rendition of “God Bless the U.S.A.”
This year’s approach — a countdown from finalist 10 to the champ — meant limited ensemble numbers and a long wait for a lot of young kids in the crowd of 11,000 to see David and David after 9:10 p.m.
More Idol Headlines after the JUMP…
Fantasia Barrino Had Tumor on Her Throat, Hurt by Negative Publicity
Gaining her prominence as the winner of the third season of the television series “American Idol” in 2004, Fantasia Barrino has been invading the world of performing, taking over the Broadway stage. Portraying the critically acclaimed Celie in the musical, “The Color Purple,” it is sad to say that she was forced to take hiatus following doctor’s diagnosis that she had tumor on her throat.
About that she openly told Sister 2 Sister magazine, “I couldn’t get enough sleep and sometimes onstage, I could taste blood … every now and then. They (producers) would send me to the hospitals and they would say, ‘Well, she’s dehydrated; that’s what’s making her tired.’ They would put IVs in me. But it just wasn’t enough.” Realizing that there might be something wrong with her throat, she eventually checked into a top throat doctor in Los Angeles, who then told her that she had tumor on her throat.
Jordin Sparks Confirms Sydney & Melbourne Shows
The Frontier Touring Company is excited to announce the first live performances of platinum-selling Idol Jordin Sparks for Australian audiences. The à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹No Airà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ songstress will perform intimate shows in Sydney and Melbourne this September as a special prelude to her December return in support of Alicia Keysà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Australian tour.
Facing the music
“American Idol” judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Kara DioGuardi are coming to Churchill Downs Thursday, and you do not want to waste their precious time with poor song choices.
They’ve heard it all. We’ve also been listening carefully for seven seasons, and it’s become fairly clear which songs have been over-used and abused, and which types of tunes soothe the savage Simon.
Jordin Sparks And Jesse McCartney
It’s not the Hannah Montana tour, or even the Disney Music Block Party tour, but “Jesse and Jordin Live,” featuring “American Idol” Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks and former Dream Street singer/”Summerland” star Jesse McCartney, is a moderately hot ticket for tween music fans.
On the young person’s spectrum of exciting events, the concert falls somewhere between texting with a crush and watching a “Degrassi” marathon.
Reunited: Simon Cowell and girlfriend Terri Seymour are finally together again
Theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve barely been seen together in months and heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s spent the last few weeks flirting with fellow X Factor judge Cheryl Cole à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ but Simon Cowell has been reunited with long-term girlfriend Terri Seymour.
The pair à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ who have been plagued by break-up rumours in recent weeks à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ were pictured together in Los Angeles this weekend.
Nigel to ‘Dance’ in SA
‘So You Think You Can Dance’ is pulling out the big guns for the first live episode of this new reality show.
None other than Nigel Lythgoe is headed for South Africa to judge the first live show in the South African series, which airs on SABC 1 Mzanzi fo sho on 6 September.
Lythgoe’s name will be familiar to viewers of the American version of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ not only is he the co-creator of the Emmy Award-winning series but he executive produces the show and is one of its most respected judges. South Africa is the first country outside of America that Lythgoe will be judging an episode in a series.

dont know if this was posted before or if it’s the right place to put it
but, remember when MAVID asked to give back to luke menard?
luke blogs about it here:

Regarding Fantasia’s article, What I remember the most were comments speculating on her laziness. It just goes to show you there’s always more to the story. What I don’t understand is why all this was kept under wraps in the first place. Bad management, bad…bad. I hope she makes a full recovery.
Regarding the Star Tribune’s review of the show. I get so mad when David Cook is compared to Chris Daughtry.. Its like they are the only two rockers out there. Why isn’t David A ever get compared to another pop singer? I am a huge Daughtry fan but I think Cook has the better voice. He has so much potential and Daughtry tends to yell his songs… Can’t they wait until his album comes out before they start the comparisions?
The Star Tribune article was pretty harsh, but I noticed that Carly got the best grade besides the Davids, so I’m happy with that. It sounds like that guy must have been at a different show than everyone else because all of the Idols were great at the two shows I attended. Those newspaper critics are so picky and his grading is really ridiculous-the competion is over, so give it a rest.
I was planning on posting something about this today
I am so glad Carly is getting a record deal. In my opinion she is the only woman of the season that should have gotten a contract. Can’t wait for her album. I was listening to Kelly Clarkson on my ipod yesterday. She has such a rocker voice – I cant wait for her album also…
Just my thoughts re: the Cook vs Daughtry comparisons… it’s not going away… ANYTIME SOON…. If anything, it will intensify. Daughtry is for now the most successful “Rock” guy from Idol, and he’s looked at as the “benchmark” for others that follow… unfair perhaps, but unless he has a major slide or something, anyone on Idol pegged as the rocker guy will be compared/contrasted to him… as DC establishes his identity outside of Idol and into that brave new world of the rock/alternative genre, he’ll have to deal w/ those comparisons – and not just w/ Daughtry - for a little bit… Archie most definitely will have the same comparisons to deal with – his will be with the more established pop acts until he carves out his own niche..
One thing I feel is different in Archie’s case is he may now be the benchmark on Idol for the male leaning “pop” singers… he’s the first male contestant that will be a certified pop star from the show – whereas some may be viewing DC as following in the footsteps of Bo Bice and Daughtry… they’ll both have their work cut out for them, but away from the Idol bubble, enduring comparisons to those “benchmark” and more established artists in their respective genres of rock and pop is our “cross to bear” as fans…
Can’t imagine why Fantasia’s management didn’t put out a press release. Other Idols have issued press releases when they’ve had issues. I can understand that they would have wanted to make sure that it was a benign tumor but once that was determined, why not blunt the criticism she was getting? Just seems awfully silly to let her continue to be beat up in the press as if she was missing shows because she was lazy or just wasn’t willing to make the commitment to her fans or the show.
I think he meant: “His squinty eyes, reach-for-my-teddy- bear body language, and ability to sell a song with his voice alone.”
Kidding! David A has improved quite a bit as a performer, but why is the grown man writing this review commenting on a 17 yr. old boy’s “dreamy” eyes and, um, “soulful” body language. I think I’ll send him a special copy of David’s Popstar magazine issue so he can hang some dreamy pics up in his office.
I’m expecting the DC/CD comparisons intensify as well. David and his team can help themselves out immensely by ensuring that David’s music is a distinctly different brand of rock (I don’t think David really leans toward Daughtry’s sound anyway). Daughtry might have a stronger “rock” voice by some measure, but DC’s voice is much more versatile, which, I think, will translate into a much more interesting sound.
Poor Fantasia. Doesn’t she got myspace? If her management is crap, couldn’t she have updated her fans, if she wasn’t too sick to do it? Then she would’ve got some flowers and balloons.
AI has its male pop stars. It just didn’t quite work out. Clay went more for AC, while Blake is a misrable failture. Eliiot is doing well with a indie label. I’ve seen David compared to him.
Not a Fantasia fan at all, but I hope she gets through all this O.K. Wouldn’t wish a throat tumor on anyone.
That Fantasia story seems to me like it has a lot of holes. She did part with her management this year. I wonder if this had anything to do with it? I can see it being both because I’m not so sure that she is easy to work with.
ianamy: I don’t mind David A being compared to Elliott. They both have great distinct voices, very talented, and if I recall, both genuinely like each other, 2 of the best male singers to come out of idol besides Clay. Elliott’s WFY is really a good pop song, not too popish, with enough room for Elliott to showcase his talent. I hope David has something like that on his album.
It’s a bit of an odd coincidence that Fantasia, Jordin, and Archie all have had some kind of problem in connection with their throats at one point, and that (it seems) that all have gotten past it one way or the other. Good for them! I can only imagine how terrifying and frustrating it must be to not be physically able to do something you love, and live off of.
The article doesn’t elaborate on Fantasia’s tumor. I do hope it was benign, and that she’s on her way to a full recovery.
ITA E! Still a total fangirl for Mista Elliott Yamin too… he and David share that same love and appreciation for the history of their craft, and for those willing to dig deeper, these young men have deep soul underpinnings in their vocal deliveries that can nail you to the wall……. both have great traits of humility and genuine appreciation for their fans that endear them to us…. no “smoke and mirrors” needed for these two…. and that’s all right with me! :cool1_tb:
Cheese- unless a person is jealous, it is very possible for that (straight) person to recognize the qualities that make someone likeable to the oppositite sex. I can look at a beautiful woman and recognize and be in awe of great beauty and of great talent.
That was heartbreaking to read. How could “the Color Purple people” and her “record company” not know that she was in the hospital having a tumor removed? That’s crazy. No wonder she and her management parted.
No flowers or balloons! *sniff* *sniff*
On the other hand, I don’t understand why she didn’t tell the Color Purple people and her record Company of her medical problems. People usually have to explain why they are not going to be at work.
Why bother putting “After the jump” when there is no “jump?”
