Idol News Roundup 01/02/09: Adam Lambert, Blake Lewis, Matt Giraud, Kris Allen

First up on this fine 2nd day of 2010, are some brand new club re-mixes from Adam Lambert and Blake Lewis, via DJ Taj’s Sound of Music blog.

I know many of you have been waiting for the remixes of Adam’s single,   “For Your Entertainment”–DJ Taj has posted five, and you can find them right   HERE.

Dj Escape & Johnny Vicious (tribal & pop remixes), Bimbo Jones, Nick Fonzerelli, and Brad Walsh all lend their dance-floor interpretations of Adam’ heady tune.   FYE might not have been a hit on TV, but no doubt, it could become a huge club hit.

DJ Taj also reveals two new re-mixes of Blake Lewis‘ single, “Heartbreak on Vinyl” from Bimbo Jones and LA Riots. Check it out HERE. Blake has already hit the club charts with remixes of “How Many Words” and “Sad Song”–I’m looking forward to “Heartbreak” joining them.

For those of you waiting for high quality vids of Matt Giraud’s New Years Eve performances at the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball game, Matt has posted the good stuff on his facebook page. Watch “Let’s Get it On” HERE, and “Great Balls of Fire” HERE. Nice job, Matt!

Also, expect a single from Matt soon–he announced via twitter, “So it’s the first day of the new year. What to do in 2010… Oh yeah, I have a single coming out on iTunes in February!! I’m excited!”

If you happen to be tooling around the radio dial this weekend, you might catch Kris Allen co-hosting Rick Dees weekly countdown show. The theme is the Biggest Hits of the Last 4 Years, and if you don’t catch it on radio, you can listen at Dees website HERE.   If you’re looking for the super-condensed version (just Kris!), Thisistaks has an edited youtube version HERE.

No Boundaries is not on any version of Kris’ album

Actually, NoBo is included on the Deluxe KA album, which is the previous iTunes pass converted over to “Deluxe”. But Nobo was replaced by Heartless as the regular bonus track on the standard album, with a separate iTunes exclusive pre-order bonus track “From the Ashes” and Walmart exclusive track “Send Me All Your Angels”. The only place to get a KA album that includes NoBo is to order the iTunes Deluxe. You can’t walk into a store and find it on a hard CD.

Amazed at how well Kris did as a DJ on the Dees show. He’s either really good at reading scripts or better off-the-cuff than I thought. Great job for a newbie.

The site is back and I see pages. Woo hoo. But I think I see the time in England or something??

  • sr4mjc:

Oh yea! The pages are back! Very cool mj

  • jammbasich:

Regarding remixes. They are HUGE at clubs. FYE could become a club hit. There are some good beats there to dance to

    .

On one of the station here (Chicago), they did a remix for KOL “Use Somebody” and Kelly’s “Already Gone”. Just seems wrong. I think some songs are not meant to be club songs. Those two songs in particular sounded soooo strange with techo beats!!!

I think talk of either Kris or Adam (or Allison, for that matter) being dropped is not really on point currently. In my opinion, the main reason people have been dropped quickly — a la Taylor and Bo, mostly — is that the companies just didn’t think they were marketable to a very substantial audience in the current music climate, not because of sales numbers.

To me, Kris and Adam both have the potential to score well with quite substantial niche markets today, or, possibly for either or both of them, even with a fairly chunky mainstream market. Whether either will really do that or not is totally up in the air, of course, but both do music that seems to have a solid *chance* to attract a significant, growing, and current music audience, seems to me. (Allison, too, actually, and, if Danny is accepted by country audiences, Danny, too)

Honestly, the most dicey-to-market-longer-term of the top season 7 and 8 finishers seems to me to be Archie. I don’t see his wonderful strengths as really counting for much in the pop market, so it would seem to me he’ll almost have to carve out some niche all to himself to make it, and I’m not entirely sure what that niche would be. I could easily seem him going some Josh Groban-y-type route and doing brilliantly, actually, but I wonder whether he and the label would go for something like that. … Maybe the Christmas album is evidence that they would?

To me, Cook is the surest bet of the whole S7 and S8 to get a solid, mainstream, current audience. But I still see Kris, Adam, Danny, Allison, and possibly Archie (and even Castro) having a good potential shot at that. So none of them seems to be in real danger of droppage at this point, to me, anyway. Hope that’s true and not just my wishful thinking.

  • hoosiermama:

Danny got a tattoo? What does it look like? My son got a kokopeli tat on his forearm, so I’m just curious!

  • hoosiermama, Danny’s tatoo is awful. (Sorry, Danny…I hope he doesn’t read these things.) See if you can see this. It’s from Danny’s twitter. (I don’t follow him, but someone retweeted it.)

    SarahP, long time no see!

  • hoosiermama:

Thanks, Diane, for the tattoo picture. It’s um…big! Ok, it’s bad. I think I actually like my son’s better! I understand the sentimental meaning of it, but no, just no. Some day, Danny you will regret that. Yikes. But hey, like he cares what we all think?! And as long as he doesn’t walk around in that wifebeater t-shirt, we won’t have to look at it either!

Thanks for the vh1 reminder to vote. Don’t mind if I do!

None of my business but, when he’s happily remarried??………

Diane, thanks for the VH1 reminder and link. I hope Jim Shearer (VJ) says something awesome for Kris’ video intro like he did last week!!! For those of you who missed the show it went something like this:

VH1’s Jim Shearer (VJ/host) is introducing LLWD (#8) video and tells the story about the Ben Savage Tweet. He then says, “Kris, Ben was probably thinking the same thing – “Don’t freak out, Kris Allen – “Don’t freakout Kris Allen” “You’re a big star now baby!!!”

I loved that!!!!! You ARE a big star now Kris Allen!!!!!

Oh, I love that. But, of course that is why so many people love you – Humble Kris.
The one other thing that I like about Kris winning Idol is also the plenty opportunities for him to see and meet all these people that he’s seen on TV, concerts, etc before he became “Kris Allen”
