Idol Record News

I’m a little behind between the vacation and the blog upgrade.  Here’s some important stuff I missed while I was away

Bucky Update: Idol Chatter has posted the official press release from Bucky’s new label. His single, “A Different World” will be released to country radio January 16. His debut album, produced by Sawyer Brown’s Mark Miller is scheduled to drop April 17.

Ken Barnes from USA Today’s Idol Chatter blog posted the track list from Katharine McPhee’s upcoming album:

1. Love Story
2. Over It
3. Open Toes
4. Home
5. Not Ur Girl
6. Each Other
7. Dangerous
8. Ordinary World
9. Do What You Do
10. Better Off Alone
11. Neglected
12. Everywhere I Go

Katharine co-wrote (with several others) three of the tunes: “Open Toes”, “Not Ur Girl” and “Neglected”.  Ken posted full credits here. Producers working on the album: Babyface, Danja, Billy Steinberg, the Underdogs and Kara DioGuardi (who co-wrote “Heaven Knows”and “Give Me Tonight” for Taylor Hicks)  Writers include: Nate Hills, Billy Steinberg (he wrote Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors”), Kara DioGuardi and Babyface.

You can listen to her soon-to-be released single, “Over It” at AOL’s
First Listen.  And Katharine’s album is listed at Amazon.com with a title: Never Saw it Coming.

Bucky Signs!

Bucky Covington has signed a record deal with Lyric Street Records according to the Nashville Business Journal

Lyric Street Records is flying high with top-selling Rascal Flatts on its roster, but without a hefty music catalog to get it through any tough times, the relatively young country-music label can’t rest on its laurels.

In December, Bucky Covington, a North Carolina artist who made it to American Idol’s top 12 finalists this year, signed with Lyric Street, and the label expects to hit the ground running in January with Covington’s first single.

That first single, “Different World” was debuted on 95.7 WKML, North Carolina yesterday afternoon. Caller support was so overwhelming, that it was the #1 song on that evenings Top 5 at 6.  For more information, check out Buckymania! blogspot.  Looks like Bucky is on a roll…

And finally, Paris Bennett recently signed with 306 Entertainment, an independent label run by her uncle. Her single “Dreamin” will be released to iTunes and radio this month. Her album is scheduled to drop in March.

So far, Season 5 has a slew of signed AI graduates.  Four Idols, Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee, Chris Daughtry and Kellie Pickler signed contracts with 19Recordings at the end of the competition.  Taylor, Chris and Kellie have all released albums.  Katharine’s is due to drop January 30. Mandisa has recently signed with EMI Nashville. And word is, that Elliott Yamin’s management is currently working on a record deal.  That’s 7 Idols with done deals, and 1 apparently on the way. Impressive.

thanks kirsten and winnie

Congrats to Bucky. Hopefully some Elliott news will materialize.

I would be very surprised if Elliott gets signed by a major label and so far all the signs are pointing to his record being self-produced. As far as Paris being signed with her uncle’s label, that’s a joke. So, let’s say, so far 6 idols have record deals. Still impressive, but I think that’s it for this season.

It looks like Babylove might be right about Elliott being self produced. His first single will be a digital download only, available sometime in the next month or so–per a message on his Myspace. Well I will take anything I can get at this point. Glad I still have credit on my itunes card I bought to get This Christmas.
