way to go jordin!!!
Poor Jordin, she’s the Rihanna of American Idol. Her singles do great, but her albums sell crappy. But if she continues to release hits, I still think my 2x Platinum prediction for her is within reach in the long run.
Jordin’s doing great.
But Blake gets a lousy bump from being on Idol.
Jeff Buckley on the other hand–number 1 with 177,000 copies from somebody else singing his song– that’s unbelievable. Idol should bring him on the finale to sing it as a duet with JC. BTW, I liked Jason’s Hallelujah, but I was blown away with his Beatles song.
If only Jeff Buckley were still alive to appear on Idol. But it is great news for the writer of the song - Leonard Cohen who was inducted into the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame this week.
This has to be the biggest iTunes jumps from anything done on Idol. If Jason Castro can do this again it’ll be good news for his future career. Right now it seems the song got the boost more than the singer.
Blake’s bump looks anemic but we’ll see what the appearance did for album sales. I’m sure they got a boost.
It’s too bad the original Beatles songs aren’t cleared for iTunes. There’d probably be a huge bump in Eight Days a Week from people trying to scrub KLC’s version out of their brain.
Don’t give Idol any ideas! I don’t wanna see Jeff Buckley’s hologram on the finale stage! lol
From Billboard:
“The influence of “American Idol” is felt on the charts, as last season’s runner-up, Blake Lewis, re-enters the Billboard 200 at No. 154 with a 135% increase after his performance on the show last week. Additionally, after one of the contestants covered Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” last week, Jeff Buckley’s popular version of the song enters Hot Digital Songs at No. 1 with 178,000 downloads. Buckley’s “Grace” album, which includes the song, debuts at No. 10 on Top Pop Catalog Albums, selling 7,000 (up 1,284%) — the album’s best sales week since June 1995.”
I’ll guess and say that Blake sold in the range of 5,000 albums this week.
Maybe Jeff Buckley (hologram), Leonard Cohen and Jason Castro can all sing it together.
Ken Barnes reported that he sold 2K last week. With a 135% increase, that means around 4.7K.
Ken rounds so the number last week could be as low as 1.5K or as high as 2.49K. That means the range for sales this week is 3.5K is to 5.8K
Your numbers are correct. I edited mine. Blake got a good bounce. It’s just that his album is selling so poorly even a 135% increase isn’t alot of albums.
Wow…that’s pretty dismal for Blake.
And a different kind of “wow” at the gain of “Hallelujah”. Those numbers are simply incredible. I wonder why that particular song gained so much interest after being performed while others didn’t.
I think that Jason sung the song “Hallelujah” so beautifully that some people, like me, who had never heard the song before loved it and bought it. I actually bought Jason’s, Jeff Buckley’s and Leonard Cohen’s versions of the song. I like them all but Cohen’s is very different from Jeff’s Buckley’s version.
I thought Blake’s sales would be much larger after his appearance on AI. I didn’t buy anything of his afterwards but I thought that a lot more of the people who liked him last season would buy his song and CD.
Go Jordin! Her singles are doing very well. A Platinum single, a Gold single and a Gold CD. (And she’s only 18!)
177,824? That’s a staggering number of downloads this week. Amazing!
