RCA Music Group Dominates the Billboard Top 10 Album Chart

Clay Aiken’s On My Way Here Debuts at #4
Leona Lewis at #6 with SPIRIT
Gavin DeGraw’s Self Titled Sophomore Album Debuts at #7

NEW YORK, May 14 /PRNewswire/ - RCA Music Group artists dominate the Billboard album chart this week with three of the country’s Top Ten best-selling albums. Additionally, RCA Label Group tops the Digital Album Chart with GAVIN DEGRAW at #1, Clay Aiken’s ON MY WAY HERE at #3, and Leona Lewis’s SPIRIT at #4.

Clay Aiken’s RCA Records/19 Recordings, ON MY WAY HERE debuts this week at #4 with 94,071 units sold this week, making this Aiken’s fourth Top 5 debut. Released on May 6th, ON MY WAY HERE is Aiken’s fourth album and his first album of original songs since his 2003 chart topping, double platinum debut Measure of a Man. The title track and first single from the album “On My Way Here” debuted at #1 on the AOL streaming chart week of release, rocketed to #1 on the Amazon chart the week it was made available as a pre-release, and debuted at #1 on the Amazon download chart the day it was released.

Leona Lewis’ J Records/SyCo Music debut album SPIRIT claims the #6 spot on the album chart with 555,472 units sold, to date.

Other mad, mad business in this coming Top 200 include Clay Aiken’s On My Way Here, which bows at #4. The Claymates predictably snatched up the former Idol’s latest, placing Aiken just 100 fewer copies behind Madonna’s Hard Candy at #3 (94,000). (Um, how does Madge feel coming in just behind Clay in only her second week on the chart…?)

    Huh?

    Yahoo News

The season two runner-up sold 106,000 copies of On My Way Here at No. 4. While he’s released two cover albums and an EP in recent years, On My Way Here is Aiken’s first album of originals since 2003’s Measure of a Man, which set the mark for best sales week by an Idol alum with 613,000 debut copies.

Sandwiched between Diamond and Aiken, Keith’s double-disc 35 Biggest Hits roped in the No. 2 spot, selling 103,000 copies, while Madonna, who topped last week’s chart with Hard Candy, sold another 94,000 copies at No. 3.

    Wouldn’t that ^^ put Clay at #2?

    Idolator

Dropping Off: Last week’s No. 1, Madonna’s Hard Candy, failed to break the six-figure mark in its second week on the chart; its sales were down 66% for a total of 94,000, and they were only ahead of On My Way Here’s numbers by about 70 units or so.

Why the discrepancies? Not that it makes a big difference overall but its like a Paula moment to me. Is there some other reporting agency other than soundscan?

Why the discrepancies? Not that it makes a big difference overall but its like a Paula moment to me. Is there some other reporting agency other than soundscan?

Weird. You don’t often see obvious discrepancies reported like that (they all report from the same source). Clay seems to be plagued with things like that. Remember when Ryan kept changing the vote differentials? How hard was that to get right the first time?

SoundScan is the reporting agency of note. There really is nothing else. A few groups like Hits Daily Double do predictive numbers. I didn’t check those this week. Maybe that’s what Yahoo is reporting.

SoundScan does re-run charts when they notices mistakes, but a 12K discrepancy is pretty big.

Maybe Clay had 12K worth of street violations. He sold 94K this week for a total of 106K? That’s a lot of street violations.

Or maybe the 106K is North American or Worldwide numbers?

    I don’t know. Hopefully, we’ll get a SS leak.

I think the discrepancy might be that Clay sold his album on QVC before the official release date. It’s possible that accounts for the 12K discrepancy.

Boy, Madonna and Clay are not too far apart. Do his QVC sales count in the Soundscan total? What about Walmart and Kmart, that sort of retail outlet?
