Kirsten, the above says Jordin 39k and Blake 33k. Then what are these totals from?

The 39K and 33K are the total sales of EPs over two weeks.

The numbers I posted were adding the sales of the most popular single from the EP (Jordin=”This is My Now” and Blake=”You Give Love a Bad Name”) and the sales of the EP to get a number which we would have gotten if the EPs were really traditional singles (traditional singles would have been combined with the downloads to come up with chart positions on some of the BB charts).

    So:
Total Sales this week: 66,302 (downloads and EPs)
Total Sales (two weeks): 167,220 (total downloads and EPs since they have been released).

I still love Bad Day, too. :)

Well, probably not the anthem of Soul Patrol. But certainly the anthem of Daughtry H8ers. :laughing_tb: If Bad day >> Home, Daughtry = suck, is this what we are getting at? :unsure_tb:

I like Bad Day and Home but I think Elliott’s Movin On would be a much better boot song - more upbeat - not sappy or sad. :)

When CDs are put on sale, (Daughtry’s was at $7.88 and $7.99 at various locations for the past two weeks) who takes the loss? The store, the record company, the artist? Does anyone know?

Since CDs are normally $11.99 - $14.99 after the first week, someone is eating the big difference in profits for the sake of selling more units. Just curious as to how it affects the artist’s profits.

Well, probably not the anthem of Soul Patrol. But certainly the anthem of Daughtry H8ers.

I started liking “Bad Day” before AI ever chose to use it as a boot song. Does that mean I’m clairvoyant? Should I buy a lottery ticket?

Just because somebody prefers one song to another doesn’t mean that they hate the other artist. There isn’t always an ulterior motive behind everything. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

The world is not black and white. The population of the planet cannot be broken down into a camp of Daughtry lovers and Daughtry h8ters. Most people live in the ground between those camps….a no man’s land of “don’t give a damn”.

I congratulate Daughtry. He has a Gold selling single in “Home” and that is nothing to sneeze at. I can be happy for many people, all at the same time.

There is no loss. CDs are dirt cheap to produce en masse. Every party just gets a smaller piece of the pie at sale price….

    “Bad Day” vs. “Home”

I personally thought that “Bad Day” was too catchy….and it was a perfect match the the spirit of the moment (a.k.a. the “boot”). “Home” is great, too, but it just wasn’t as good as “Bad Day.” Like someone mentioned earlier, Idol got really lucky with that song last year. So did that guy who sang it….whatshisface. What’s he doing these days?

Interestingly enough, I have “Home” on my iPod, but not “Bad Day.” :)

Oh yeah, and regarding Elliott’s sales:

I remember Ken Barnes saying that it would be a “long, hard slog” for Elliott to make it to a quarter million in sales.

Me thinks he might want to reconsider…

Cut the fan war crap. Stop calling people H*ters, or you’re banned.

I haven’t been on my computer for a few days and I wanted to catch up with Idol news, and after reading this thread first, I remember why I like chat and the new format with LisaB’s news in her own section.

Thanks mj for restructuring the blog!

I am so tired of these fanwars and the same stuff over and over!

    Happy Thursday everyone!!!!!!!!!

    At $7.99

    Artist: $0.52 or 7.5%
    Producer: $0.24 or 3%
    Songwriters: $0.27 or 3.4%
    Distributor: $1.75 or 22%
    Manufacturing $1.00 (roughly 12%)
    Retailer: $1.74 or 21%
    Record label: $2.47 or 31%

However, check most recording contracts and you will indeed find a provision which specifies that albums sold “below cost” (as determined by the label in its sole discretion) pay NO royalties to the artists. Fact.

I can see where someone might be left with the impression that Kellie’s sales aren’t good compared to Taylor Swift’s but then perhaps they aren’t taking into consideration that Taylor’s Cd has been selling for bargain basement prices at 7.99 a pop compared to the 12.00 to 14.00 Kellie’s album has been selling for. Taylor Swift also has quite alot of her music listed on music sites and her myspace, etc., in the same way all the other Idol’s have been privileged to do, while Kellie has only been allowed to have one, or in a couple cases two songs with which to sell her album on. Things like these are out of Kellie’s control and fall directly with those that are handling her career. If Kellie’s not happy with the work her people are doing I’m sure she will seek a contract elsewhere the next time one needs to be signed.

As for now I think Kellie is doing fantstic when it comes to her sales. I’m sure that if they offered Kellie and her album many of the perks that Taylor and all the other Idol’s are getting that she would probably see her sales jump five to ten times what currently are. But even as is she still has already outsold two former Idol winners who released their latest albums the same time she did. She has also outsold most of the Season 6 contestants already and from the looks of things will probably have the second highest sales out of the group. Now if someone wants to call that “not doing good” I wonder just what they would call “good”. Or do they expect Kellie to sell the most albums out of everyone with the least amount of promotional tools to do so. If thats the case then I’m afraid their dreaming.
