Predicted Album sales for the Top 50 from HDD:
17 Daughtry “Daughtry” 36,830 -34% (12)
21 Carrie Underwood “Some Hearts” 31,607 -23% (22)
Later today, HDD should make a prediction for first week sales for Kelly Clarkson (and Hannah Montana…who sold 23,998 units of her previous album last week). HDD states that, based on early retail reports, both Kelly and Hannah are on target to sell between 350-400k.
I hope Kelly wins. There is no way Hannah Montana, or Miley Cyrus can win. Have you heard her sing? Yikes.
It’s funny…”Never Again” is considered a failure because it hasn’t charted well, yet it has sold more than 600,000 copies?!?!? I think it is the radio stations pushing back and not the listeners.
On a side note, I was wondering if anyone had any sales numbers for Kimberley Locke’s single, “Change.” I know that her album has been really slow, but didn’t know about the single. If you check Mediabase again, she has jumped to number 5 on the AC chart with a gain of 212 spins! The biggest gain of any song. They are pushing the song to the Hot AC stations next week which should increase the spins 3 or 4 times more.
Where can I find this information?
Excellent news Kirsten.
You could try asking Ken Barnes over at Idol Chatter. He has access to somebody who has the full SS numbers.
You can post questions on his blog (he’ll have a post for sales numbers later today and he has a current post about airplay). People sometimes ask questions about sales numbers for specific idols/songs and he will sometimes respond a day or two later with an update. That’s probably your best shot.

When has bad singing ever prevented someone from landing the top spot on the Billboard charts?? ;)
Hope Kelly wins but don’t underestimate the power of tween girls
I used to stress about placement when Chris D’s album first came out but now think it doesn’t really matter as long as you’re selling fairly well. #1 is nice but if Kelly sells 300,000 or more, that’s a win in itself.

Hannah Montana will win.
In this house of girls, one of whom is a tween, we are gaga over all things Hannah/Miley and will be buying her new album to accompany us on a 20-hr road trip. What’s not to like? She’s cute, has a fun TV show, is a good role model unlike the Lindsays, Paris and Britneys of the world and her songs are fun, poppy fluff perfect for my daughters–who I want to stay innocent for as long as possible.
Taylor and Kat sell any albums this week?
Nothing that I’ve seen concerning Kelly’s numbers makes me feel sorry for her. Girl’s doing just fine.
Yes Rad, I have heard her sing and I think for a teenage girl she can hold her own.
Will Hannah win? I dont know but I agree with everything else Stefunny said. I have 3 daughters myself (almost 12, 9&1/2 and almost 8) and Hannah/Miley is a must have in our home.
Anyhow, I wish Kelly and Hannah both well. I have liked Kelly since her audition in season 1.
HMWD!!!!!ABD!!!!
Hannah Montana kicks ass. I can think of much worse people for my 9, 7 and 7 year old girls to emulate. Hmmm, one comes to mind, quickly.

HDD has released it’s first week predictions based on one day sales (the earlier estimate was predicted on pre-orders).
“This much can be said. Both Clarkson’s My December and the new Hannah Montana album will sell between 320-350k for their first week, enough to put them in a lively dead heat for top of the chart.
Consulting the tea leaves, Clarkson is showing strengths from a pair of reporting precincts in iTunes and Best Buy. Ms. Cyrus is ahead, as expected, at mass merchants and non-traditional retail. Both have visibility and sales at Costco and Limited II clothing stores, but Miley, of course, has the Disney Stores and JC Penney as well.”
More predictions at HDD site for other first week releases.
I’ve updated the post with numbers Ken Barnes posted for the off-chart Idols.
Wow…always nice to see other moms with 3 daughters! Mine are 5, 7 and 9. Lots o’drama in my house!
Bought Hannah Montana today. Haven’t listened to it yet though.
It’ll be interesting to see who wins the sales battle.
Jon Peter Lewis has a good album. I really enjoyed some of the songs. It just shows how hard it is out there for an independent artist with no radio play. But then Ayla actually gets radio play and sells 6 CDs. Elliott has been incredibly lucky to get a major label behind him and get the radio play he has. Anybody without major distribution seems doomed to sell very few units. This is a tough business.
I will look at it this way: I am lucky to be one of a 900-strong elite group that has had the special privilege of hearing JPL’s wonderful music. ;-D
Nice to meet you, Stefunny! We will have to trade “battle stories” sometime!
Kirsten-Thanks as always for the numbers! :)

I don’t know about all the other numbers, but Elliott’s are wrong. From Barnes:
Elliott sold 1,000, down from 1,400; total 506,000.
omg - mj, if you see that I posted here. I clicked on 07 numbers and thought WTF is wrong with Elliott’s #’s. I need a drink.
