Glad to see WFY’s downloads back up after that itunes problem.
For you HSM2 fans, here are a few factoids:
Sales this Week: 367,000
Total for Two Weeks: 982,000
Drop: 40%
“That’s the smallest second-week drop for an album that started with 500,000 or more since Kenny Chesney’s “When the Sun Goes Down” declined by only 36% in February 2004.”
“Since the beginning of 2006, every title that started north of half-a-million — save for “High School Musical 2″ — declined by at least 48% in its second week. For example, Jay-Z’s “Kingdom Come” plunged 79% in its second week while Dixie Chicks’ “Taking the Long Way” dropped 48%.”
“The Walt Disney label owns six of the top 10 best sellers of 2007.”
Disney certainly owns the formula for success this year. I wonder if this is a blip or if the other labels are taking notes. AI has even bigger television audiences than any of the Disney shows. Can they learn how to convert those viewers into buyers?

Here is a little trending for you:
Number 100 album this week 2007: “Clockwork Gray” sold 7000
Number 100 album this week 2006: “Laugh Now, Cry Later” sold 9000.
Average Number 100 album for this week over the last 10 years: 12,047.
Great stuff Kirsten. Thanks for that info. I happened to watch HSM2 when it was on and thought it was so cute. Fun, good teen music and enjoyable..I see why its so popular. I also enjoyed HSM1..lol
I seems that album sales for High School Musical, Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus aren’t driven by radio airplay. The music that we hear on the radio, as demonstrated by the singles and airplay charts, appears to be from very different artists. It will be interesting to see how Jordin’s new single will do since I believe it seems closer to the Disney sound. Can a midtempo pop song break through the hip-hop and dance genres that have a stanglehold on the airplay?
From Idol Chatter (I edited it a bit)
“Daughtry’s remaining at No. 33 with 20,000 sold, a meager 2% decline from the previous week. His total is 3.04 million,
Kelly’s next, but drops 36-45, selling 15,000, a 20% drop from the previous week, for a total of 619,000.
Carrie falls 42-47, selling 14,000, a 12% decline, for a total of 5.88 million.
Elliott has the best Idol sales news of the week, jumping 89-76 on 9,000 sales, up 14%, for a total of 371,000. His Wait for You also made the top 10 (at No. 10) this week on the national radio airplay audience chart compiled from all formats by Nielsen BDS.
Bucky drops 97-115, selling a little less than 6,000, a 21% drop, for a total of 260,000.
Mandisa falls 122-129, selling 5,000 for a total of 36,000.
Kellie is down 140-147, selling slightly under 5,000 (down 9%) for a total of 616,000. Although she’s outpacing Taylor’s weekly sales, at her present rate it will take quite a while for her to pass his near-700,000 total, as I once expected it would easily do.
Fantasia shows great tenacity by staying on the chart another week, and even manages to climb a bit, 193-188, selling 4,000, a 3% increase, for a total of 463,000.
Constantine fell from No. 198, not unexpectedly, selling 2,300, a 40% or so decline from the previous week. His total is 15,000.
Kelly sold a bit more than 5,000 copies of Breakaway, down from a rounded 6,000, but her total rounds up to 5.84 million this week.
Katharine sold 900, her first venture into three figures, down from 1,200. Total is 353,000.
Taylor dropped to 400 from 500, with a total of 694,000.
Ruben and Clay each sold 300, same as they did last week. Clay’s total is 517,000; Ruben’s, 233,000.
Paris and Kimberley each sold 200, same as last week. Paris ticked over to 19,000 total, Kimberley’s at 15,000.”
There are so many Idol CDs on the charts I did this the lazy way.
I think Idol is doing fine in the Disney competiton with Carrie U and Daughtry.
Great to see Elliott doing well. I hope his second single can do at least as well as his first. Go Elliott!
Elliot cd sales is interesting for allot of weeks it stays in the 9 –15 thousand and staying steady within this range…Kellie P is still hanging in thier . I wonder how the idols on the pop charts will handle the new big dogs comming out in september should be intersting as well. Nice to watched from a distance it does not matter to me at all.
Thanks for the stats.
I’m very happy that so many of the Idols are doing so well. I thought Constantine’s numbers would be higher. Maybe next week. Now that The Bold And The Beautiful concert is over, maybe more of that audience will buy his CD. Does he even have a single in release now?
Anyway, yay Elliott! I’m glad that iTunes has fixed the problem. Too bad it was so late in the week. Next week should be even better for him. I hope, I hope, I hope.

188 FANTASIA FANTASIA 4,015 3 463,207
According to the official Idol boards at Fox:
Daughtry sold 10,040 CDs (possibly rounded) in the UK in its debut week, coming in at 13 on their sales charts.
And if we thought things were bad in the U.S., apparently the # 1 album in the UK only had to sell 29,451 CDs to nab that top spot.
At this rate, Connie boy has a long way to go to reach his self-projected 150K. Next week will be interesting to see if either he or Elliott gets a boost from the B&B “concert.” I’m betting on E, but who knows? Con might sell an extra thousand.
