Hope it’s ok to post so much from Idol Chatter:

It was the worst week for album sales in Nielsen SoundScan history, but the Idols, while not exactly bucking the trend, didn’t fare disastrously. Daughtry leads the pack with what looks like a great Billboard chart jump (30-22) but which actually masks a slight decline in sales (1%) to a rounded 20,000. Any act that could hold its own or keep its decline moderate was almost guaranteed a chart jump this week. Daughtry’s total is now 3.1 million.

Next comes Carrie, who moved 46-44 despite a 5.5% sales decline to 13,000. Her total is 5.91 million.

Kelly remained at No. 53 but fell 12% to 11,000, bringing her total to 642,000.

Elliott inched up 64-63 but dropped 10% to 9,000, having now sold 390,000.

Bucky moved up 132-130, falling 13% to the mid-4,000s (rounding up to 5,000). His total is 270,000.

Kellie dropped a bit, 174-177, thanks to an 11% decline in sales to a rounded 4,000, for a total of 624,000.

And Mandisa looks about ready to fall off the chart, sliding 171-195 on sales in the mid-3,000s, down 17%, for a total of about 44,000.

For those following the Kanye vs 50 vs Chesney wildcard debut round for this week…HDD is predicting that Kanye will open with 800K, 50 with 600K and Chesney with 450K. That’s what the industry needed after the worst week in recorded history.

800K will make it the best selling album since Kanye’s last album Late Registration sold 860K in August 2005.

“record-shattering first day at iTunes and traditional retail (where it reportedly sold more than 435k)”

Here is what Billboard had to say on the matter:

West’s “Graduation” sold an estimated 437,000 copies during its first day of release Tuesday, ahead of 310,000 for 50 Cent’s “Curtis” and 107,000 for country star Kenny Chesney’s “Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates,” according to a new “Building Chart” devised by tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan.

(building chart? Hmm…are they tired of being beaten to the news by HDD?)

They are predicting 750K for Kanye.

600K and Chesney with 450K. That’s what the industry needed after the worst week in recorded history.

    I guess 50 is quiting then. :wink_wp:
