Any one else think it’s weird that their downloads are pretty much 30,000 EVERY week? Barely changing (maybe a 2 -3% difference going from week to week).
I think the record label is buying these downloads to falsley inflate their numbers.
That’s an interesting idea. Daughtry doesn’t really need the help but if I was Jordin’s label, I’d buy her dls. She’ll need all the buzz she can get to help move first week sales of the album. However, I may be going over to the dark side of AI conspiracy theories. Jordin’s song is getting heard on the radio and maybe she’s just consistently selling. It can happen.
I’m not even sure multiple purchases of dls by the same user count.
From what I understand, muliple purchases by the same user don’t count on iTunes. I’m not sure about other d/l sites.
I doubt the labels are purchasing these downloads.
ETA: I’m no Kirsten, but here are some Mediabase stats:
POP:
8/7 DAUGHTRY Over You
30/22 JORDIN SPARKS Tattoo
Hot AC:
6/6 DAUGHTRY Over You
178/119 JORDIN SPARKS Tattoo
I’m sure if they were making multiple purchases, they would find a way around that.
snuffles, Daughtry is selling roughly the same week to week also so why would you doubt only the Jordin sales?
I was the one doubting Jordin’s sales because her album is coming out in a month and needs the promo. However, I think the downloads are for real for both. You can’t fudge hundreds much less thousands of repeat downloads. Unless, thousands of people are in on it and the whole thing just doesn’t seem worth all the trouble.
Does anyone have #s for Elliott Yamin’s 2nd single, “One Word”?
I said both of their download numbers look funky. It’s WEIRD they’re almost exactly the same every week.
Maybe if I could compare there numbers to other artists. I just think it would naturally fluctuate more than they have. Either increasing more each week or decreasing more each week.
Downloads reflect radio play and they can be very consistent. One Word is not available to download yet.
I’ve been watching the charts closely for over a year now. It’s not unusual for the chart numbers to reveal the type of consistency reflected in Jordin and Chris’s download numbers for the past few weeks.
No conspiracy here.

Katharine joins the Season 5 Gold/Platinum Singles Club, according to Ken Barnes at Idol Chatter
Katharine McPhee (1 gold: “Over It”)
Chris Daughtry (2 platinum: “It’s Not Over” & “Home”)
Elliott Yamin (1 gold: “Wait For You”)
Taylor Hicks (1 gold: “Do I Make You Proud”)*
*song not included in the RIAA’s online database.
And now that I’ve looked, Katharine’s isn’t either (for now, at least)
Katharine McPhee (1 gold: “Over It”)
Chris Daughtry (2 platinum: “It’s Not Over” & “Home”)
Elliott Yamin (1 gold: “Wait For You”)
Taylor Hicks (1 gold: “Do I Make You Proud”)*
That’s pretty impressive for the top four of season five.

Have to snicker a little about Constantine’s sales…
I think it’s hilarious that Katharine has only sold 350,000 copies. Chris, Taylor, Kellie and Elliott have all sold more than she has. And, I am sure Bucky will too.
Just goes to show you that she only got to the finals because of her looks, because her CD and singles were pretty much stiffs.
