I too will take this with a grain of salt. If it moves that much, great! If not, the world won’t end. Topping Beyonce, Nickleback & Twilight is a huge achievement and one to be proud of!

Ha! I saw Cook’s updated vibe-rater blurb saying he would be in the Top 5 and immediately thought: Crap! he only sold like 120K. Looks like a relatively huge week for the Top 4.

I hope he sells at least one copy more than Daughtry did.

HDD Predictions are up:

A double dose of Beyonce and her alter ego will grab the top spot on the HITS Album Sales chart next week, as her two-CD Music World/Columbia set, I AmÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ Sasha Fierce, will debut at #1 with 500-550k in sales, according to those hardy retailers who still have their doors open.

With a stunning appearance on Saturday Night Live last weekend, two hit singles in Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…â€œIf I Were a BoyÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…â€œSingle Ladies (Put A Ring On It)Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and a starring role as Etta James in the upcoming Chess Records movie, Cadillac Records (and its accompanying soundtrack), Beyonce might as well be Sasha Claus.

The real tussle will be right below that for #2, as a debuting RCA/RMGÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s David Cook and RoadrunnerÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Nickelback go head-to-head with this weekÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s chart-topper, Big MachineÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Taylor Swift, in her second week. I know there has been some discussion on how Declaration and The best of Both Worlds have similar hooks. I just don’t think you can compare the two at all. Pop songs/pop-rock songs whatever can and often do utilize similar song/hook structures. Is the average listener going to hear both, make the connection, and then decide that Declaration isn’t worth listening too at all?

I don’t know if Declaration is destined for greatness, but it is one of the stronger singles on the album. Very catchy, something that you can blast out of your stereo easily. It can stand on its own.

As for the others….I know I’m alone in this, but I think LIfe On the Moon could be a HUGE single. The song that I think American Idol could use for their goodbye videos is “Heroes”…kind of a stretch, but it could be done…OR….god forbid they decide to use Light On.

I know the song has fans, I just think itÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a boat anchor. The numbers that David Cook pulled after the finale where astronomical.

I’m sorry, but I think we can’t expect him to do what he did back in May anytime soon. No one probably will. There were more than 30 million people watching that show… the buzz was at its max. But that was 6 months ago. Of course things change, people move on.
His appearences have had a huge impact on the song’s sales. Before SNL the song could hardly stay in the top 100, the airplay was less than Crush had in its first Itunes week. Since then the song has been holding and growing.
LO is doing good if we compare it to the general songs out there. But for the idol fandom everything has to be big and huge. No, it’s not a catchy pop song ÃƒÆ’ la Crush, but in its niche LO is doing ok.
I’m not a fan of LO, I would have picked another single. I Just don’t think right now he needs another single, while the song is still living and going up.

I hope you are right. It didnÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t happen the week of the single, IMO, because the guy from Billboard didnÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t write it up. The Crush headlines originated from that. Plus, TI destroyed everyone that week, so that was the more compelling story. So I hope history repeats itself no matter who Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…â€œwinsÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ frankly.

I don’t know if she’s going to have a monster week like T.I. did, but between her album and the sales of her two singles (#1 & #2 on iTunes, last I checked) Beyonce should have a very strong week. I really think the main focus will be on her and not “the Davids” (at least in the mainstream press, Idol-related blogs might be a different story), but we’ll see what happens.

I don’t think Declaration should be Cook’s next single at all. For one thing, Miley’s Best of Both Worlds didn’t do much in Chr. As a pop single LO is much more suitable than Declaration. Feb probably is the better timing for releasing the single. They can use it in AI.

I think they should go with Come Back to Me (a plea to all the Idol fans who hated LO, lol) or Lie next and maybe go with Declaration or Heroes down the line. If there’s a big hit to be had on the album, I think it will be one of the “soft” songs (CBTM, Lie or Avalanche, which is my personal favorite of these 3).

I really do think that rock or alternative would play Bar-ba-sol if it were by anybody by David Cook.

ETA: FWIW, I just got my CD (yay) and the sticker mentions “the smash Light On” (pffffft), Lie, Come Back to Me and Life on the Moon. Is this in any way an accurate predictor of what the singles will be? (Did Archie’s CD come with a sticker?).

Declaration should be the next single. Bar Ba Sol does not have a huge melodic hook (wanna know why pop goop like “Crush” does so well on the radio? It’s that hook…replace the lyrics and keep the hook…you’d still have a hit song). Declaration represents the album better. The third single should be one of the ballads. As to why Avalanche doesn’t get more love I will never know. It is one of the better songs on the album, has a better structure and tune. But I digress…I can see RCA picking something like “Mr Sensitive” for the third single.

I really think the big story next week will be Beyonce and I AmÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Sasha Fierce, regardless of whether CookÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s opening week of album sales is significantly higher than ArchieÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s or not. I remember Cook fans fretting about an onslaught of negative press when Light On sold less in its debut week than Crush, and that never materialized.

I hope you are right. It didn’t happen the week of the single, IMO, because the guy from Billboard didn’t write it up. The Crush headlines originated from that. Plus, TI destroyed everyone that week, so that was the more compelling story. So I hope history repeats itself no matter who “wins” frankly. No matter how it gets written up, some members of a fanbase get their feelings hurt, and the craziness begins anew. And the weirdest thing about it is that BOTH Davids are doing very well. I mean, VERY well. Everyone should be happy with their guy right now, but still there are folks looking for reasons to pick apart the other, even in the middle of all the good news. Oh well. I just have to keep telling myself no matter how annoying it is, its just the internet community and it just doesn’t matter out in the real world. I am thrilled beyond belief for both of them, because they are both great guys who put out very good albums, and I see nothing but good things in both their futures. I just can’t for the life of me understand what there is to argue about. Anyway, lets just keep our fingers crossed. Give peace a chance, people! LOL.

In most cases that I can recall with AIÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ers if a first single doesnÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t do much if a 2nd single is released it gets even less promotion.

That will not happen here. He’s going to move a lot of albums, he has a proven history as a potential big seller, and so far they’ve been treating him like a real artist and not an Idol throwaway project. If LO really proves to be bad (and I’m not thoroughly convinced its a disaster, it IS growing, just slower than Idol people think it should) they will move on to another single.
