Thanks, Kirsten. Does this mean Blake might make the Hot 100? I know that also takes airplay into account, but I’m still not confident I understand how these charts work. :)

Does this mean Blake might make the Hot 100?

I haven’t been following the airplay charts much this week, but I think he might not quite make the Hot 100. He could be in the Bubbling Under 100 though.

He’s doing okay on the Pop charts, but Pop isn’t the only big chart in town. Urban/Rhythmic and Country charts also have their share of heavy hitters. Pop songs tend do better on iTunes than those two formats do so it is likely he’s not sitting at 97 on the overall airplay charts. Airplay counts for more than sales. There are also the internet streams that count for 5% and Blake is doing quite well there.

As he moves up the airplay charts, he’ll probably also gain sales. He might make it this week and if not this week, maybe next.

Thanks, Kirsten. Great explanation. He’s barely getting any Urban/Rhythmic play yet and obviously no country play, so maybe we’ll have to wait.

Those debut numbers for Blake are not good….but I can’t say that I’m surprised. Seeing as how season 6 was considered (by the majority) the worst to date (sliding TV ratings, terrible tour sales, etc.) I expected Blake to have a low debut…and the debuts are usually indicative of the fanbase. The only person I expect to make it big from last season is Jordin.

Just for comparison’s sake, Elliott’s “Movin’ On” debuted at #37 (Digital Song’s Chart), selling 25k…with no airplay.

And as far as recent runner-ups go, Katharine debuted at #32, selling 28k

Well at least if does start to go up and ends up doing well, I guess we will know it was not because of his AI fanbase. I still have my fingers crossed for him, and way to go Jordin.

Tony - I’m betting Blake’s cd is not on your Christmas list! :)

I’m not going to put too much emphasis on the download number for Blake’s first single. I didn’t download it, although I am sort-of a fan. I do plan on buying the cd the first week it is released. Maybe a lot of are planning on buying the whole cd, instead of buying just the single.

Not looking so good for Jordin..I’d thought for sure she’d do at least 200k

Jostling for top debut will be Jive/ZLG’s Idol-winning Jordin Sparks (125k-150k…

I wasn’t sure which thread to put the Jordin prediction MJ so you can delete one if you wish.

Break Anotha will definitely not make the Hot 100 this week, and I highly doubt it will make bubbling under either. I don’t know the specific statistics, but I follow the charts enough to know that hot 100 airplay seems to play into the hot 100 the most, more so then the digital chart seems to. And for whatever reason urban songs tend to do much better on hot 100 airplay then any other genre. If you go to mediabase and look at the top ten tracks on urban radio and then go look at the hot 100 airplay, usually between 7-8 of those songs are the same. Anyway my point is Break Anotha is only impacting top 40 radio right now, and is still too low to debut on hot 100 airplay, and since the digital chart only has 75 positions it won’t debut there either, so again no chance of hot 100 this week, and very little for bubbling under.

The day is almost over, but it’s still November 21 here so what the heck….

Happy 1st anniversary to the DAUGHTRY album. November 21 is the date in 2006 when DAUGHTRY was first released. What a great year for Chris! The album has remained in the Top 50 for the entire year - no small feat - and has climbed to #4 for the all-time digital album.

  15. 15 Daughtry_AJ Nov 22nd, 2007 at 9:28 am

Congrats Daughtry, I totally spaced that yesterday was the one year anniversary of the album. Here’s to another year of selling 3 million copies!

  16. 16 Tony Nov 22nd, 2007 at 12:51 pm

Glad Daughtry is doing so well. I didn’t instandly like “Over You” but it’s been growing on me.
