Here are a couple of video interviews with the Top 10 as they rehearse for their upcoming tour, beginning July 6 in Sunrise, FL.
This Access Hollywood interview features the Idols interviewed in pairs, and all of the Idols rehearsing with instruments at the end of the clip. Hmmm. Gina Glocksen spills that she’s been asked to join the cast of Rent, but she’s not sure if she’s going to take it, or start recording an album. Sanjaya Malakar is writing music with his sister, Shyamali.
Blake Lewis tells Fox LA that he’s already in the studio recording his album! Hey, how ’bout that signing? Still waiting to hear about the Idol signings… Jordin Sparks says she’s “got a couple of songs for my album, that will hopefully be out before Thanksgiving.”
Finally, more about Melinda Doolittle’s trip to Africa with Laura Bush.
American Idol finalist Melinda Doolittle will travel to Zambia on June 28 with Malaria No More to see and participate in malaria prevention programs as a part of First Lady Laura Bush’s upcoming trip through Africa. During the four-day tour, Doolittle will see the impact of malaria on the continent firsthand and assist in a distribution of 500,000 bed nets in Lusaka, Zambia to at-risk populations.
“Traveling to Africa has always been a life-long dream of mine,” remarked Ms. Doolittle. “I am very excited to travel with the First Lady and Malaria No More and to show the impact the viewers of American Idol have had through their help and support during Idol Gives Back.”

Ryan seems obsessed with Sanjaya. Melinda loves sleeping on tour buses. Jordin says that she will be hitting the studio hard after the tour in order to get her CD out by Thanksgiving. Ryan shows a before and after shot of Lakisha’s new dental work.
“And now friends, the sweet sound of Sanjaya is coming to your town. He’s also bringing along some of his most talented friends.[photos of Sanjaya and Jordin in the background]”….interesting. Does AI see Sanjaya as the person who will draw people to the tour? Or is this just Ryan being silly?
That Blake/Sanjaya thing looked ugly. That little clip showed more possible tension than the entire Season 5 tour produced.
On the one hand, it sucks to lose a job to somebody who became popular on a television show and swooped in and took the job you wanted. On the other hand, it’s great that somebody who became popular on a television show swooped in and saved the failing Broadway show you are acting in by bringing in new fans (Fantasia really boosted sales numbers for “The Colour Purple”). Idols wouldn’t be getting the jobs if the producers didn’t think that they would bring extra attention to the show.
On balance, I’m sure that the Broadway actors aren’t too happy about it, though.
You’re kidding, right? I watched it and saw no tension, just kidding around.
I agree that Gina should at least strongly consider the Rent offer. I doubt she’ll get an immediate record contract so this may be a great way to keep her name out there.

u know.. I saw Frenchie Davis in Pit helping out w/ “dreamgirls”.. all I have to say is man oh man !! She was great!!!! I actually cried..so did my sister.. but she always cries.
