Idol Update - C’mon…Vogue…

Jennifer Hudson graces the cover of the March issue of Vogue. Doesn’t she look beautiful? The photo was taken by Annie Leibovitz and the dress designed by Carolina Herrera.  Here’s a rather startling statistic–Jennifer is the first African American singer, and only the third African-American celebrity (Halle Berry and Oprah are the others) to appear on the cover. Ever. Wow.

Congrats to Jennifer, whose rise to fame has morphed into a real-life Cinderella story.

Another Season 3 Diva, Fantasia is headed to Broadway.  She’ll be starring in the Broadway production of “The Color Purple” this spring.  Producer Oprah Winfrey plans to have Fantasia guest on her show in the near future.

Elliott Yamin tells his fans via his My Space:

I actually wrote that [Movin’ On] w/Ollie Goldstein and DJ Lethal right before we left for the AI LIVE Tour last summer. Just to clear up some of the confusion by the way…..Although “Movin On” has been well-received, our main intent w/this song was to simply treat it as a “teaser” so to speak…it will be on the album for sure, however we only intended to release it to DSP’s (digital service providers) only. ie…. yahoo, aol..etc…My first single entitled “Wait For You” should be released to radio within the next 2 weeks! I’m on pins and needles waiting to share this song w/ya’ll!!…I recorded it w/the dynamic and immensly popular duo of Stargate and Taj Jackson while I was in New York this winter.

Elliott’s album drops on March 20.

I love Fantasia and New York in the spring is awesome! I have always wondered why Tasia hasn’t been on Oprah, it seems to me that her story would be a natural for Oprah and her fans. I guess her cd will sell like crazy afterr that. Tasia, put in a good word for my man Taylor would ya?

I think Oprah would adore Taylor, he seems to excel in interviews with the women. I think the Martha Stewart and the View were two of my all time favorites, especially MS.

“Ah’m makin’ wreaths with Martha” in his little sing song voice was too cute.

Congratulations Jennifer!!! These past few months have been a whirlwind!!!!

Great picture of Jennifer Hudson, very Marilyn Monroe-esque. But if she is only the third African American woman to make the cover, that tells us more of Vogue and their policies. Completely ridiculous.

Jennifer looks stunning!!! Frankly, I am more surprised that a voluptuous woman is on the cover of Vogue. I thought hell would surely have to freeze over for that to ever happen.

Also, I think they mean she is the thrid African-American *celebrity* to be on the cover. There have been covers previously featuring AA models. Liya Kebede has been on the cover of US Vogue a couple of times over the past few years (http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/5/55/Liyakebede.jpg). Hard to imagine also that in the late 80’s/early 90’s that Iman and/or Naomi weren’t on the cover either (when they still routinely used models).

That’s misleading! I was wondering about that. Surely Naomi Campbell, Iman or that chick with the talk show has been on the cover of vogue?

There have been many African-American models on the cover of Vogue with Beverly Johnson as the first.

JHud is just the third AA celebrity to grace the cover.

Yeah, I just did a little looking and Beverly Johnson was the first African American female on the cover back in 1974. There’s a great (but a bit dated) article on the Time website about modeling and ethnicity. http://www.time.com/time/fashion/20030908/race/9.html

She’s STUNNING. This is an amazing, vibrant, gorgeous photo of a beautiful, voluptuous woman. Yowza!

i don’t really like the picture, i didn’t really like any of the pictures in the set, j-hud is a beautiful woman, and i don’t think the pictures, especially the cover do her justice, or any favours

That’s a GREAT picture of JHud. She is absolutely gorgeous and confident and I LOVE that she is finally getting the press and accolades that she deserves.

MJ - the talk show chick is Tyra Banks. :)

That’s funny that AOL MUSIC says that ‘Movin On’ is his first single.

While Jennifer Hudson is talented, and probably deserving of making the cover of Vogue, I don’t like her.

Her complaining about American Idol really bothered me. If not for American Idol, nobody would have heard of Jennifer Hudson. She should be constantly singing the praises of the show for helping her get the publicity she needed to get her acting and singing career going instead of complaining how the show sucks for the contestants.

    Jennifer looks FAB!

Looking forward to Elliots new CD
