I recently spent some hard-earned advertising dollars (click more, you’ll get more! thx) on magazines I’d never subscribe to otherwise–People, Entertainment Weekly, US. Looking through this week’s batch I came up with the bright idea to do a weekly post that gathers up all the magazine articles in one place. Most of this stuff won’t be found online, so it will be brand new to you!

People also has a little blurb on the Bat Mitzvah Sanjaya Malakar attended last weekend. The picture has Sanjaya participating in traditional Jewish customs–he’s being held high in the air in a chair by a group of dancing revelers. On the same page, Frenchie Davis bitches (again) about her unfair treatment at the hands of the Idol Powers That Be.
One more Idol feature in People. Blake Lewis was recently inked for Kat Von D’s show LA Ink. Check out his new tattoo. No, his name is nowhere to be found.
Finally, Entertainment Weekly (March 21) has their yearly Idol Odds article in their latest issue. It’s fun to see, when all is said in done, how their predictions pan out:

Frenchie bitching??? How ironic, i was just watching FOX News and they were comparing the same thing: David H. and Frenchie…well for you non-obsessed Idol fans out there who run the news and don’t have a clue about idol- Frenchie posed NUDE on a porn site…David H. strips…there’s a big difference

Hee! I couldn’t help but notice that in the “vintage look” posters from EW, David H. looks a bit like Judy Garland.
And, I don’t know who spent all the time (slave labor) scanning the photo’s in but, bravo!
Just a tip - scan in a lower resolution for web. If it’s a jpeg file it compresses every time it’s saved which weakens the clarity with each save. Try tiff or, I use png which doesn’t compress at all.
Resolution for web is 72 dpi versus 300 dpi for photography.

Cute baby pictures! Amanda is/was lovely. Gotta say Jason looks better with dreads and was adorable as a 2-year-old.
EW’s Top 6 prediction (using odds to win) looks pretty solid (if we replace David H with Michael), but I don’t think they’ll place in order of winning odds.
Based on the 4 weeks of performances (and factoring in auditions/hollywood week, itunes sales, popularity, press reactions), here’s my prediction for the order of the Top 6:
1. Michael Johns (w/ record deal) OR David Cook (w/ record deal)
2. Brooke White (w/ record deal)
3. David Archuleta (w/record deal)
4. Jason Castro
5. Michael Johns (w/ record deal) OR David Cook (w/ record deal)
6. Carly Smithson
But as we all know, anything could happen in the next few weeks! Maybe Kristy has more staying power than we though. heh.
Also, I guess I’m pretty optimistic about the number of people being signed, but after hearing this week’s audio recordings, I don’t think we can deny that there’s a lot more potential recording voices in this bunch than in Season 6’s.

primeminister - my guess- the two Davids for 1-2 with Brooke and Jason 3/4.. I don’t think Michael or Carly will make final 4.
LOL, primeminister. I can’t see Michael Johns getting past #6 unless he REALLY steps it up. I think he and David Cook will split votes and they will go to Cook, who seems much more talented right now. Who knows?
As for record deals, that’s an interesting question. Do you mean signed by Clive et al? Or record deals by indies too?
ealbino- I’ve been saying my prayers…i think next week will really be a deciding factor in his fate..but I’m really keeping in mind that he had everything going against him this week and he was really uncomfortable with the song choice (plus he was the fav, the stage, blah blah blah…) but ya he will be fine.
David A. looks exactly the same.
Well, if David A isn’t familiar with the Beatles, I don’t see how things can improve song-choice wise. He probably got his first pick. I hope his nerves improve and his stage daddy backs off (if true).

Brooke White is my favorite singer in the competition, but not to win. Winning will be a curse for her in today’s radio market with her style.
Brooke White will get a record deal, no doubt. Her Carly Simon/Carole King vibe is something that many people clamor for and will have a nice niche market.
But unlike you, I don’t think she’ll make the top 3. Her voice, while nice and passionate, has very limited range. This show is all about glory notes and diva-like performances. Brooke hasn’t shown her ability to provide that. She has shown her ability to choose songs that showcase her personal style ( much like Amanda does ).
The ensuing themes will slowly show her limitations and Number 6 is probably the highest she’ll go. Which isn’t bad at all.
Thanks for the scans, MJ. I noticed that the mags seem to share my liking of Michael since he seems to get bigger pics along with David A. I laughed at the oddsmaker comment about his wife swooning for Michael like a schoolgirl since I know several who feel the same way including moi.
My top six would include: Michael, Carly, David C, David A, Jason, and Brooke. I have no idea of the order because it’s all about song choices and performances.
Great idea, MJ! I take some of these mags, but some I don’t, so it is fun to see the pics in my pajamas, which I would have to get out of if I went to the store to see them……..maybe.
