Here’s how the AMA’s opened tonight. With a whole bunch of Idols…and Jimmy Kimmel…

Wow! Daughtry wins three awards so far!
What a great night for him, he deserves it. I liked watching him so happy along his wife.

Congrats to Carrie too! That girl is unstoppable… Go Idols!

    Awww, yay Daughtry.

I felt like I was watching an American Idol reunion show. Good times.

Carrie wins AGAIN. “Best Country Album”. Woo hoo!

  4. 4 jpfan Nov 18th, 2007 at 10:20 pm

    Carrie won!!! What a SHOCKER!!!

  5. 5 Nostradamas Nov 18th, 2007 at 10:21 pm

Damn….this show reminds me why CD sales are in the toilet…my ears are bleeding…..

My favorite performances of the night were from Queen Latifah, Lenny Kravitz, and Daughtry (big surprise!). Just another harmless night of meaningless awards with a side of cheese, but at least it was something my daughter and I could watch together. I got a huge kick out of watching her reaction to the award winners and the performers.

During the montage of fan photos and videos shown during the “Home” performance they showed a picture of my younger sister and her hubby who just returned to Iraq. I think there may have also been a short video clip of a Daughtry fan and her child who used to post on this blog.

Okay, so Chris Brown effing RAWKS. Alicia Keys ain’t too shabby either. Those were my two fave performances of the night, hands down. Loved Daughtry, but I would have preferred them to perform “Over You” or “Crashed”, personally. And actually, Rihanna and Ne-yo weren’t too bad either.

Fergie, on the other hand? Flat out terrible. She sounded truly awful. I’m still not sure how I feel about Beyonce/Sugarland. They sounded good, but it was… weird.

Did anyone else laugh hysterically when that Jonas brother fell on his face? I know it’s bad, but I just couldn’t help it.

Anyway, congrats to Daughtry and Carrie and all the people who cleared their cookies and voted over and over again! ;)

Congrats to all idol alumni honored at the AMA’s. Say what you will about the music, they worked their asses off! Go AI, they must be doing something right.

    Dear Sarah

    I *heart* you.

YOu have no idea how hard I laughed! I was watching with my daughter - a big Jonas Bros fan.

What!? They let fans vote for AMA awards? :huh_tb: I didn’t get the memo.. :mellow_tb: Congrats to everyone who won. :clap_tb: An award is an award is an award….

  12. 12 jpfan Nov 18th, 2007 at 11:45 pm

I consider the most improved speller I got in the second grade as good as a Nobel Prize. I mean all awards are equal or something like that. :)

  13. 13 jobbix Nov 19th, 2007 at 12:07 am

Well, Nobel Prize is overrated and undemocratic. Even a terrorist could win the Nobel Peace Prize. That just ruined it for me….

  14. 14 Sarah Nov 19th, 2007 at 12:07 am

Lu, it was so funny we had to rewind and watch it a second time. And we also got a pretty big laugh when the bodyguard/bouncer/whatever-he-was appeared when those 2 girls decided it would be cool to run around on stage.

Hey, at least there was SOMETHING to make us laugh, since there were no scripted jokes! ;)

Oh, something else that made me laugh - Celine Dion’s attempt at dancing. Now THAT was hysterical.

    Tara - I heart you, too! :)

  15. 15 jpfan Nov 19th, 2007 at 12:21 am

How about the Nobel Prize for Physics? Is that as good as an AMA? or my most improved speller award? or an Oscar? or are they all equal? Anyway, congrats to us all because aren’t we all winners after all.

  16. 16 Cherokee Nov 19th, 2007 at 12:22 am

I too laughed when one of the Jonas Brothers fell and when the girls were escorted from the stage. Those crazy teeny-boppers! I also laughed during the Sugarland/Beyonce duo. My daughter kept saying that Sugarland’s lead singer was “creepy”. The whole thing was just a little too weird.

I was excited to see Duran Duran, although I wasn’t feeling the first song at all. My daughter kept asking me “who is Duran Duran?” Man, I feel so old!

I enjoyed seeing the clips of past AMA’s. I was cracking up at the clips of Michael Jackson and vintage Celine.

I am so mad at myself for not recording it so I could tease my daughter. She insists that he did it on purpose. I’ve found it three times on youtube tonight but they all say “This video is no longer availabel.”

I really only fast forwarded through it to see Daughtry awards and their performance although I slowed down to check who won the rest. I missed the intro so will have to check it out here. I was very happy for Chris and the band. I was hoping he’d do something else too but did enjoy Home. Good for Carrie too although I’m sure it’s old hat for her.

I didn’t even know who the Jonas Brothers were although did have a laugh at the screamers they brought up for their song. I’m not a fan of Fergie’s songs but did like her speech at the end, especially the part where she thanked her man (love Josh Duhamel).

  19. 19 star Nov 19th, 2007 at 8:15 am

I really liked the orchestra’d up version of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and I loved seeing Maroon 5 do “Won’t Go Home Without You” live. That’s my favorite song on their new album. I liked all the gratuitous shots of Josh Duhamel when Fergie won too, heh.

Congrats to all the winning Idols. :)

How in the HELL did Chris Daughtry get kicked off of Idol???

That song (Home) was a winner from the first guitar strum. Good for him, he deserves it.

Hits Taylor over the head with a ragged bunny slipper.

  21. 21 Kat Nov 19th, 2007 at 10:50 am

“Home” is a great song and Chris deserves his success. Any reticence I have regarding his popularity isn’t so much directed at him as it is directed at the fact that every win for Daughtry gives some stupid blogger or local newspaper critic another opportunity to slam their favorite punching bag Taylor. Ah, well, what are you going to do. Congrats to Chris, and here’s hoping that one day the media will let all the idols (occasional snark notwithstanding) have their moments in the sun without assuming that one Idol’s success is inversely related to another’s.

  22. 22 thedingoateyobaby Nov 19th, 2007 at 11:21 am

Looking back, Chris should have won Idol but life doesnt always work in the obvious way. If not for Idol, T would still be playing to drunks in some dive so its a win win for him. I think as a Taylor fan though, I have been screwed. I saw one thing on the show, I heard a lot of great stuff from his Inde CD’s and then…..I got that piece of crap CD.

I dont think it was his fault, I think they did to him what they did to Clay and Bo initially and Im hoping they will find a way to let Taylor be Taylor and let me be happy.

I just saw (for the first time) the photo of The Jonas Brothers over at Rickey’s. Heh, those boys are cute! ;b

I recorded and will be watching tonight with a friend since I was travelling yesterday.

Ace just sent out a bulletin congratulation Daughtry. I guess Chrace is still alive.

Let’s all hit up Daughtry’s page and show him some love today. He had an AMAZING night last night winning 3 AMA’s!

    Much love,

    ACE

Well, I may make fun of it, but I do think these awards have at least *some* significance because they *are* fan-voted. I mean, sure, they’re not Grammys. And sure, fans can clear cookies and vote over and over again. But for someone to win, they have to have a lot of voters, not just a small concentrated group who votes over and over again.

And fan support IS important. After all, who’s buying the albums?

  26. 26 CarieB Nov 19th, 2007 at 9:18 pm

I’m really happy for Chris winning these awards. I think a Grammy (or two) will surely follow.

Had to wonder if his bandmates felt a bit like tools going on stage to accept awards for songs that were recorded before they were even a band….

    Congrats to Carrie as well.

  27. 27 jadore Nov 19th, 2007 at 10:45 pm

Hope they don’t feel like that, because the album would not have been as successful if the band hadn’t toured non-stop this past year promoting the album. imho, the band members deserve to share in the awards received.

  28. 28 pj Nov 19th, 2007 at 11:33 pm

Duran Duran was all kinds of awesome. :)

The Jonas Bros… who are they? Were they faking playing their instruments?

My recording flubbed up on Alicia and she’s been removed from youtube.

  29. 29 GeminiDolly Nov 20th, 2007 at 2:39 am

So happy for Chris Daughtry and the band’s success. He deserves it. Carrie is awesome too. My favorite performances in no particular order were Daughtry, Rhianna and Neyo, Alicia Keys, and Maroon Five.
