A real interesting and lengthy interview with Dicko here. His favorite bands are The Clark Brothers and Franklin Bridge. He thinks the 12 year old metal heads, Light of Doom, are too young, and that perhaps their parents are living through them, just a bit. He calls Sixwire “Hormone-replacement therapy for middle-aged women.” Ha ha, exactly why they will probably take it all…
As for what we can expect from the rest of the season:
So what’s in store for the final weeks of TNGAB? Dicko told us there’s a Rolling Stones theme week coming up (take that, American Idol!) and that there are some more big-name songwriters that the producers are currently in negotiations with. (This week, the music of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller – who penned hits for legends like Elvis Presley and The Drifters – is featured.) Dicko’s picks for theme nights would be Johnny Cash, U2, and REM – all fabulous ideas that we can keep our fingers crossed for.
The bands will be doing cover songs only for the next couple of weeks, and one act will be eliminated each week.
What bands are Dicko thankful for?
He names The Beatles, The Clash, and The Arctic Monkeys – “three generations that have inspired me”.
Dicko rulz!!!

Good interview, indeed. Thanks, mj.
I really am surprised at the low, low ratings, but that was encouraging that they did tick up a bit. (13 instead of 11 people watching??)
I hope they do this show again as I am thoroughly enjoying it. Maybe put it in a different time slot and night, though. I think Fox has a few shows they could spare to do this.
I think the combination of the non-promotion of this show and it’s Friday night time slot, pretty much doomed the ratings from the start. It really is too bad because I do like it better than idol, especially as far as format is concerned. All business, no filler. Yay for no filler.
Thanks, mj.
Am I looking at a Clark Brothers win? Dicko doesn’t even try to disguise his favorites.
Great interview! I like him even more now.
Think that Fox wasn’t really behind the show that much, giving it the Friday time slot.
Writers strike will save it for a full season, but I’m not to hopeful for a second season. Too bad. It’s an entertaining show.
I enjoy Dicko (from what I’ve seen). Sadly, to me, the show itself isn’t that compelling. I miss Rock Star.
Anyway, Dicko looks like he’s doing a Zoolander pose in that pic. Just sayin ;-)
Why for a show that was supposed to be about performing different styles are all the themes basically rock oriented?
I also got the chance to participate in the conference call with Dicko. I write recaps for Reality TV Calendar and somehow I managed to be invited. Everybody got a chance to talk directly to Dicko and ask him questions. He said that we could ask anything we wanted.
I e-mail my recaps and commentaries to the editor at Reality TV Calendar and usually he posts them right away. Unfortunately, he has been out of his office a lot lately the last few days (which is unusual), so my version of the conference call did not get posted until the wee hours this morning.
I don’t choose the titles of my articles, and I think my editor looked at my article a little too quickly. In several years that I have done recaps, I have never asked to change a title, but this time I am going to ask that he modify it to Dicko Dickson says Sixwire, but watch out for The Clark Brothers.
Dicko basically said The Clark Brothers were his favorite (for the long term), but he figured that Sixwire was the most popular. He thinks it will come down to Sixwire or The Clark Brothers for the win.
Dicko talks extremely fast. He talked the same way in the conference call as he does as a judge. I keep remembering little stuff that I left out of my summary after the fact.
To Blooregard, someone did ask him near the end why the songwriters were rock. Dicko disagreed that they were rock, he thinks of them as more pop and folk. Then the person asking the question commented that these songwriters would be found in the rock section of the store. He never really agreed. He said that the producers were trying to find songwriters that could be interpreted by a wide variety of artists. Also that the producers had asked a lot of songwriters, and these are the songwriters that got approved earlier than some that they are still trying to reach an agreement with to use their songs.
