Song picks for next week:
Adam: “Oh Darling” – The Beatles’ Abby road
“White Shade of Pale” – Procal Harum- Judges choice
Kris: “Black Magic Woman” – Santana
“Crash Into Me” – Dave Matthews Band -Judge’s choice
Danny: “Who’s Gonna Drive You Home” – The Cars
“Sex Farm Woman – Spinal Tapp – People’s choice
I checked it out and it sure does sound like that, doesn’t it? On the other hand, the whole rest of the song is in the second person, why would he switch to the third person for one word? But I like “him” better, so I think that’s what I’ll choose to hear from now on.
I love this recording either way.
Yup, that sums it up for me, too!
I was thinking in contrast to the live version… people want to believe whatever they want to
But see what I mean about “reaction”?
I think people hear what they want. Because at the 1:42 mark it sounds like he sings, I miss you girl. And he also could be singing, “I’m going be give in” So I think we are back to ambigious and there is something for everyone in there.
Or instead of the Santana song, how about “Magic Bus” by The Who??
See, this whole discussion of what Adam is actually saying is one of the cool things about rock — you can’t understand a lot of what a lot of singers are saying! So just don’t worry about it and enjoy the music!
“Enunciation problems”. Hmph.
Last week I said that Someone To Watch Over Me was probably the one of Allison’s to get if someone got only one, because the technological kinks were worked out and the performance was good.
But I have to agree with you that Cry Baby is the best. The sound is excellent, and she really did convey more of her live-performance energy and vibe in this one than in any other. What a shame she’s gone.
Oh, no, no — she sounds a hundred times better! Sorry, I cannot stand Janis’ voice — having Allison sing Cry Baby and (via the now-deceased Youtube video) Piece of My Heart was a real gift, because they’re great blues-rock-oriented songs that I can now properly enjoy (at least Cry Baby — hopefully the Youtube will reappear).
And keep those accessories coming (see Fox interview) lol
I think the lyric at 1:42 is “I’ve been misusing” .. which is the same as the original LZ lyric.
Whatever he’s saying it’s a great studio recording.
Word. If the sound mix hadn’t been off on show night, it would have sounded like this on Tuesday. I wish I could hear Kris sing Renegade by himself. (swoon)
Excellent suggestions. I’d say pretty much anything by the Dave Matthews Band would be in his wheelhouse. The fanwank in me would also suggest ‘My Hands Are Shaking’ by Sondre Lerche.
I CANNOT wait to download it, yay! I may check out Renegade as well due to Sbalk017’s recommendation, I love harmonies!
I’ll be getting “Cry Baby” as well.
I have to wait a couple days to do so though.
All this talk about what Adam might be “singing” in his WLL studio version reminds me of the “Paul is dead” clues the Beatles supposedly gave in their recordings! LOL
OK, I thought I didn’t care all that much, but I’m off to listen to them. Hopefully they are up on YouTube because I’ve yet to buy a studio performance this year. But I am finding myself interested in hearing them. I just haven’t found anybody that I’m so invested in that I need to hear their music more than once or twice. I don’t need to pay for it to do that.
I enjoyed playing the YouTube studio versions for my extremely (OTT) jazzified father last week. I’m a classic rock freak myself so will use my own ears…don’t need affirmation like I did last week, though the dadster (who has about 6,000 jazz CD’s) pretty much echoed my thoughts which was interesting…
OK so I’m back and well, I loved them in this order:
Kris (yeah well I’m also an Americana/Alt Country freak–sorry I forgot to mention that tidbit before– and I loved his take) If I was going to break down and spend money on the idols this week, this would be the one
Allison has an amazing voice. She really doesn’t have range but she has an amazing tone. I just guess I’m partial to Janis and maybe because she has a similar tone, I find her sorta wannabe
Adam does have amazing range but his tone leaves me cold. I find no richness in it…nothing to make me excited.
Danny sucks…have nothing much else to say about him.
I agree. If he feels he wants to say something at some point then fine but he’s under no obligation to do so at any time. He wants to be an entertainer and he’s good at it. Let him entertain. The rest is his business.
:lol_tb: on the choices for Danny.
Whiter Shade of Pale was done last year by Sundance, not a good choice me thinks. (I’ll admit here that I couldn’t remember his name at first and was just gonna say the short big hairy dude)
I can’t even suggest anything for Adam, I just think he needs one great ballad for the casual voters, and one great big fat balls to the wall rock out hellapalooza complete with glitter eyeliner to show off those fab eyes for moi. :blush_tb:
I actually love Black Magic Woman for Kris though, damn, great suggestion! Would be all kinds of hot.
Man, wouldn’t Kris crush some Ryan Adams? “Dear Chicago” or “Where The Stars Go Blue”?
I haven’t heard any of the studio versions yet, but I was reminded today of the Canadian Idol Top 5 last year – Mookie Morris performed a killer version of “Come Together” (Judges’ Choice):

THAT’S how it’s done.
Say what you will, for me, this season has presented the most diverse music and talent that is close to my heart. Adam & Allison have kept it interesting to my rocker chick heart, but Kris (and Danny…yikes) appeal to that part of me that likes folk, soul, and Southern Rock. I’m grateful to all of them. This has been a very entertaining season for me. I actually like the studio version of Renegade. No haters, please.
Let me just add, I’m not a country music fan at all, but I think Allison, when she’s not rocking out has great pipes for country. I was blown away when she sang that Patty Loveless song “Blame it on your Heart”. Girl is very versatile. So, she’s versatile, Adam is versatile. They should have been 1 & 2. Where were the Spanish/Mexican voters in all this?
