Contrary to rumor, Jennifer Hudson has not been asked to perform for Barack Obama’s inauguration in January:
On Thursday (November 13), Obama transition official Nick Shapiro denied the rumor that Obama’s camp had reached out to fellow Chicagoan Jennifer Hudson to perform at the January 20 inauguration. This is just days after the Obama team told MTV that no official offer has gone out to first daughters Malia and Sasha to appear on the “Hannah Montana” show.
“An inauguration committee hasn’t even been formed yet, ” Shapiro said, adding that it was too early to speculate on who may play the event.
Doesn’t mean they won’t invite her–they just haven’t gotten to that stage of planning the inauguration yet. Don’t be surprised if she is invited to perform. Jennifer is from Chicago, just like Obama, and he’s obviously a fan, as he invited her to sing the National Anthem during the Democratic National Convention in Denver over the summer.
What is a go is Jennifer’s Gap ad, which she shot back in July in New York City. When the company gave her the option to back out of the campaign, Jennifer gave her blessing to move foward. While some may raise an eyebrow at Jennifer’s smiling cheery face plastered on Christmas ads while she grieves in private, I don’t think the tragic murders of her mother, brother and nephew should stop her career. The sooner she gets back on that horse the better.
Come to think of it, Jennifer performing at the inauguration in two months would be a good place to take that big step back into the limelight…
