Jennifer Hudson In Chicago to Film Holiday Special

Jennifer Hudson is in her hometown, Chicago filming her holiday special for ABC, set to air in December.

Home for the Holidays will be based on her life growing up in Chicago, and is sure to be an emotional journey for Jennifer.   Last October, her mother brother and nephew were murdered, allegedly by her sisters estranged boyfriend.

In the clip, Jennifer heads back to her old high school to meet with students and perform a concert.   Her teacher recounts Jennifer proclaiming in music class that “I’m going to be a famous singer.”

There’s a little tease of Jennifer singing, “This Christmas” for the students.

This trip is the first visit to Chicago for her 3 month old son, David.

Ooh, another AI Alum holiday special! This one seems more serious than Carrie’s though. Sounds like it’ll be pretty cool. Wonder when it’ll air.

  • Um….this sounds like the most depressing holiday special ever created. I just don’t think I’ll be in the mood to hang tinsel after watching this. :/

I am going to keep an eye out for this special. I wonder if there will be any others on the special with her. Not her hugest fan, but I want to hear her interpretation of the holiday songs. My favorite JHud is from Dreamgirls and the one song she did with Ne-Yo on his album…

Sorry for the triple post. I’m very sad about the death of the edit/request deletion options…

Haha, jambajim, it does sounds like it could be a little depressing, but potentially in an uplifting way…? Kinda like Idol Gives Back? I dunno. Some people like a little emotional stuff on the holidays I guess.

Do people really get the depressing feeling from this special. Jennifer really seems in high spirits in the clip and look like she’s gonna have a great time. Yeah her family will be brought up but I think in more of an uplifting way then what everyone is perceieving it to be. I think it’s obvious that this will be something happy and not something where we will see Jennifer crying the whole hour.

At the end of the video the news caster says Jamie Foxx and Micheal Buble will also be apart of it and are taping their parts with Jennifef today.

I’m not much of a JHud fan but I am a Chicago fan so I’ll probably watch this.

  • unique28v:

Yes. I get an uplifting vibe too. J-Hud is one of my top Idols of all time so I will definitely watch this special. Her voice is one of the best in our generation. Its out of this world!! I hope she does more movies as well as her music.

Can’t wait, and seriously Do you guys really think Jenn will walk around crying this entire interview??. She hasn’t said much about the tragedy, and I expect it to stay that way forever really. This will be an amazing experience, I for one along with the other REAL Jennifer Hudson fans can not wait to hear her version of these classic X-Mas songs . Will be a treat for everyone, even the haters should tune in.

I kind of like specials at holiday time along the lines of the first AI Xmas — the one with the people from Seasons 1 and 2 and the American juniors. That had good songs and it was fun. Everyone was wearing white and red. I still remember Ruben’s blue tongue (from some wierd sucking candy).

I love J-Hud, and if you’ve ever been inside Dunbar High School, the place is practically a shrine to her. So I think it’s really cool she’s including it on her trip.

  • ianaleah:

Jennifer is a wonderful singer. Best wishes to her and her lil son, David.

I don’t really know, but I think some people want or expect her to address her adversities publicly. I don’t know that she ever will. I don’t care if she ever does or not. It’s her thing–her pain. It’s up to her and nobody else. If she chooses to ignore it “in public” forever, I’m fine. As I’ve previously mentioned, she’s never been, nor ever will be, one of my favorites. I just think she gets to deal with her pain in her own way.

I was a Jennifer fan during her idol stint. She is just an amazing, dynamic singer. Her singing and acting in Dream Girls was phenomenol!!! She is awesome. I bet her Christmas special will be touching and lovely. Naysayers, what the heck is wrong with you??

  • Grammie Kari:

I am willing to have an open mind about this. I am most interested in the singing aspect of the special. The girl can sing.

    Amazing singer…God’s speed, Jennifer…..
