Jennifer Hudson belts out the National Anthem Thursday afternoon before the start of the final day of the Democratic National Convention, where Barack Obama accepted the party’s nomination for President.
Her phrasing is a little odd here and there, but overall, she does a great job. Girl took it to church!

Wow, this is phenomenal.
WOW I cried again.
A good not great version, somewhat ’shouty’ in parts.
But who cares?
What an historic, career-defining gig!!
Though I live north of the border(stuck btwn Buffalo and Detroit), the 1968 Democratic convention will always be a defining moment in my political consciousness.
Today, to see the progressions of the past 40 years crystallized in this convention is overwhelming.
Way to go America.
Barrack Obama FTW.
Wow.. A M A Z I N G!
She did so well! I was so proud of her. The whole last night of the convention was Amazing, capped off with Obama’s wonderful speech. I love conventions….
I am such a dweeb. I actually teared up watching that last night. Just something about watching the look on her face before she started singing - it was like “How did I get here? How did I get to be the person singing the anthem on a night like this?” Can you imagine? This is the girl with the weird hair and weirder clothes from Season 3. Big voice but totally unpolished, sparring with Simon because she didn’t know enough to tame the Chicago back girl ‘tude for the masses. LOL. And now she’s a freaking Oscar winner opening for what could be the next president of the United States. No matter what her name is in history books now. Incredible. Go JHud!
tinawina WHAT YOU SAID! Cool. And J.S.G. I’m with you, those were the days. I was SOOOO young
but conventions have never been as exciting as back then.
holy cow, i have chills all over my body.
I’ll say what I said when I saw Aretha sing “God Bless America” at a Presidential event in the Seventies: Thank you, Jesus.
I’m a JH fan. She has really shown what she can do. I’m proud of her hard work and strong will to overcome Simon’s cruel comments on AI.
But, if you close your eyes and just listen, it’s pretty screechy.
What a phenomenal moment.
What an incredible honor for Jennifer. The history of last night will live with her forever. Congrats!!
Although she did a great job singing, I am a traditionalist and prefer that song to be sung straight, without embelishments and runs. Still, great job Jenn!!
