Jennifer Hudson Wins Best New Artist NAACP Image Awards – VIDEO

Jennifer Hudson, nominated for 7 NAACP Image awards, won 3 individual awards in a ceremony, broadcast last night on FOX. She also walked away with 2 more awards, including Outstanding Album for Jennifer Hudson and Duo, Group or Collaboration for her duet with Fantasia on “I’m His Only Woman.”
Fantasia, in Orlando celebrating the opening of the American Idol Experience with the rest of the Idol winners, was not present to accept her award.
“Now don’t start me to crying again, y’all,” said Jennifer, visibly touched, “Oh my God, it always feels like home coming here. Thank you all so much for all of your amazing support.” She won her first Image award two years ago for her role in Dreamgirls.
After the jump, watch Jennifer accept her award for Best New Artist, and serenade Mohamed Ali with a performance of “The Impossible Dream”.

Congrats Jennifer! *is watching vids now – thanks mj!*
That gave me chills. Jennifer looks great.
Congratulations. She’s such a beautiful and talented person.
I can’t see the vids at this computer, but she looks gorgeous in the picture. Congratulations to her.
This is an incredibly challenging song to breath life and meaning into. I wouldn’t change a note or a breath or a phrase. Truly stunning, truly definitive.
Hi, everybody. This is Jennifer Hudson, a “New Artist.” :ponder_tb:
^Well new to the recording industry..Heh.
She is definitely stepping onto Whitney’s throne these days. Can’t wait to see if she does this song again down the road. She’s amazing, but this sounds like a song that is “new” in her voice.
Her breathing choices weren’t that good. Typically each line is done with only one breath where she took two. To dream, (breath) the impossible dream as opposed to her version (I don’t know if she did this on the first line, but she did it on most lines) To dream (breath) the impossible (breath) dream.
That would work for Jason Castro, and sound unique and moving for him. But her voice is too big and strong to do that. Plus she took breaths in the middle of long words.
But as I said, this seems like a new song for her– and if she keeps singing it, it will come more into her voice– I would love to hear her sing it six months from now.
(And I’d love to hear her take the ending of this song to church a little more than she did, lol– starting with “scorned and covered with scars.”)
Nonetheless, I’m not sure if AI has ever brought a better singer to the public’s eye.
That girl can SANG!
Ghostwriter, I’m not a singer and don’t know about “breaths”, but I’m sure she like other singers takes singing lessons. I know Aretha is still going to school for voice….so I imagine all great singers do.
Jennifer Hudson is a star. Period. There’s no denying this anymore. This performance got me but good! Jennifer is feeling the music and digging down deep, and this has improved her singing. I think JHud is going to be around for a long, long time.
Wow – when did she get so good? I’d download that if it were for sale (even though the style isn’t my thing)
This is so bittersweet for her – honestly, I have no idea how she can go on after what happened to her. Faith helps, and I don’t know, I find it incredibly inspiring that she does have her faith intact.
