Jennifer Hudson — Wins Golden Globe

Jennifer Golden GlobesCongratuations to Jennifer Hudson! The Golden Globe Awards are broadcasting live tonight on NBC.  Jennifer won Best Supporting Actress for her role as Effie White in the movie “Dreamgirls”.

Her award was the first of the evening.  Fox news is covering the broadcast live here.

“Dreamgirls” also won Best Musical or Comedy and Eddie Murphy won Best Supporting Actor for his role as soul singer James “Thunder” Early in the film.

From Jennifer’s acceptance speech:

“I had always dreamed but I never ever dreamed this big. This goes far beyond anything I could have ever imagined,”

She dedicated her award to Florence Ballard, one of the singers from the Supremes on which “Dreamgirls” is loosely based.

Ballard, considered the founder and original lead singer of the group, was fired from the Supremes in 1967 and replaced by Cindy Birdsong.  She died at the age of 32 in 1976.

Winning the Golden Globe is often a precursor to winning the Oscar.  Oscar nominations will be announced on January 23rd.  The ceremony takes place February 25.

Like she said in season three…

    “It’s Jenny’s world!”

I’ve never been a JHud fan, (and probably never will be) but success is the sweetest revenge, no? Congrats to her! American Idol has proven itself to be a great platform for every individual with a passion for the performing arts. I’ve decided that next season is when I will begin auditioning.

Jennifer was my pick to win American Idol that year and I was so devastated when she got voted off so early. I just loved her voice. Maybe it turned out best in the long run…Jennifer is very successful and Fantasia has had success with her albums. I guess we can never count out a contestant that gets an early boot.

If I remember right Jennifer had been singing on a cruise ship before she tried out for American Idol. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong but I believe she comes from the south side of Chicago which is not a good area. I think we all love to see someone that is the dark horse become successful!

Go Jennifer! Now it’s on to the Oscar!!!!

Way to go Jen!! Heeee, I just saw a clip on TV of her backstage talking to the media after winning. She held up her award and said “Like my award Simon?” :lol_tb:

I was so excited when she won last night. And I cheered when Eddie Murphy won and the show won best comedy/musical award. The Golden Globe awards seems to be a better idea of what real people think (rather than the artsy snobbishness of the oscars). I truly think Jennifer truly earned her award and hope that she picks up the oscar as well. It was a long time coming - but she finally got her kudos for her voice. And - even though the role was meaty and perfect for her - I think she may have a solid career ahead of her in film.

Sorry, but if certian ‘other’ AI runner’s up had just a quarter of JH’s attitude and were self-titled a “Diva”, they’d be crucified.

At the private event I attended a weekend ago, she paraded down the cat-walk in a display best described as “two bulldogs fighting in a gunny sack”. I hadn’t seen so much shaking since I set a bowl full of jello on a jack hammer. I honestly threw up in my mouth a little…..

And then in interviews called herself a “Little Diva” more than once.

Sorry to sound so mean (though I’m not sure why I should feel sorry, around this place sometimes) but the old double standard is in full bloom…
