Joesplace found this video of Jesse Lang performing pre-Idol. Jesse is the sister of the Grammy-winning blues artist, Jonny Lang.

I like her!

Would not have recognized her without the name tag. Her hair is much darker now. She’s good.

This is what bothers me. She (and others) are already gigging and making “some” money. Why would they want to go through the torture of “Idol”. And if they’re so good, why doesn’t a record company sign them? And do they really think at this point in the music business that they will get a recording contract if they make the final 12; look at what happened to season 7.

I like her too. I’m intrigued to really hear more than 2 second of her singing.

But isn’t that almost any musician who is trying to make it? There are sure a lot of them on idol. I think there is a difference between a person trying to get recognized by the means they have, gigs, small shows, and just trying their craft is a lot different than someone who has already had a failed contract at a record company. (I’m looking at you, Joplanta). I think for some artists the AI stage is a launching pad, and it is, while they might not get a huge record deal out of it they’ll definitely get some good exposure one way or another.

I’m not bothered by Jesse or any people who work hard at trying to become musicians. I’m bothered by the people who have had record deals and numerous chances that have failed and then try to think Idol will reinvent them for the millionth time.

Oh, there’s plenty in it for Joanna. Just by getting her pretty mug on national TV, there will be plenty of more famous dancers and athletes getting in line to hook up with her. She won’t have to buy her own dinner for the next 20 years.

With the price of food these days, that is a big benefit.

The sooner she gets on the Idol stage and plays electric guitar like she does on this video, the better her chances of survivial.
Of course, she might have done it during the Hollywood round but we’d never see it.
Reminds me of David Cook, and Jesse would be well advised to follow his path on Idol.

    Planty, planty, McPlant-plant.

And since I don’t mind “plants”, she’s O.K. with me. I think JoPlanta has a better voice than JePlanta, but JePlanta is way cooler.

Of course! It makes perfect sense why the producers insisted on showing the pop princesses in hollywood, and not highlight any female who plays instruments and are slightly different! psh. Can’t wait to hear Jesse in the semi-finals.

  • Dr. Tracey:

That was good, I liked it better than anything i’ve seen from her so far.

  • cookcricket:

Yay, that was good! Now I’m really looking forward to hearing more from her! Love her stage presence!

  • baxter:

My wish is that Jesse makes the top 5 and her brother comes to the finale and plays on stage with her. I LOVE me some Johnny Lang!!!!

  • golcook:

She sounds like Alanis Morissette in her golden years, very nice. She should stay true to her rockish/alternative material, A rocker girl would be a nice thing to see.

She’s now in my favorites, along with Danny Gokey, Matt Giraud and Michael Sarver.

  • Margaux:

I like her a lot. Reminds me of Alanis, Melissa Etheridge, Grace Potter.. she’s quite attractive but not tarted up.

She’s no more a plant than David Coook, Taylor Hicks, Chris Daughtry, etc, who played gigs with bands. Having a Grammy winning brother who is not a household name (even if he deserves to be) doesn’t get you that far in the business. Record companies are going out of business, not signing unknown artists over 17.
