Jordin Sparks Album Clips and Other Odds and Ends

Hear a preview of Jordin Sparks’ upcoming album in 30 second sound clips here.  I’ll reserve judgement until I hear the full album.

Kimberley Locke’s new Christmas album is available on iTunes.  I love Christmas music.  I have to drop by Target sometime to pick up Elliott Yamin’s Christmas EP

Mandisa just posted a blog on her My Space

Mandisa is featured in the latest edition of People magazine! The article titled, “Idols Down Home,” features an interview with Mandisa and a few other of her Idol pals, who have moved to Nashville since the show.

Here is a list:  Mandisa, Josh Gracin, Carrie Underwood, Bo BiceBucky Covington, Kellie Pickler, Chris Sligh, Phil StaceyMelinda Doolittle already called Nashville home…

Am I missing anyone?

    3 Thoughts:

What happened to the Pop/Rock Jordin wanted to include on her album?
A lot of slow (and sleepy) songs. Yikes!
Tattoo and No Air seem to be the stronger tracks.

Bo is moving back to Alabama, so does he still count?

I really wanted Jordin to pattern herself aftet Jewel, because I think she did that well on tour. Guess not. I’ll wait to judge until I hear full songs.

On a first listen they almost all sound the same - including annoying background noises on more songs. (Although I am noticing that annoying background noises seem to be a new trend outside of Jordin - one I could do without!)

Not sure, alot of the songs sounded the same. I’ll wait until I hear full songs before I judge the album. She really does have a beautiful voice.

interesting. These clips remind me of a certain season five runner-up… coming from an idol, she did mention that she rushed the album. But seriously, every single song seems to have the same exact beat. But that’s just me! I wish her luck with her album, and I’m hoping the full songs are better.

Well… You ar enot the only one.
This album sure reminds me of Kat’s one, and that’s not good.
It’s a shame though, because Jordin has a beautiful voice, but she is still too young. She is only 17 you know.
I am glad they put those samples up, now I know not to even bother buying that.

Wow..they sure do sound all alike. However - No air, One step at a time and Young and in Love could be hits just like Tatoo imo. May not do as well as they want but if she can sell 500k she’ll be forgiven don’tcha think? She does have a beautiful sounding voice and I wish her success. I do think Blake will outsell her though.

It’s KatPee 2.0. That’s what it sounds like. There are a few good songs. But most of it is her trying to be something she’s not. She’s not hip, edgy, or sultry or funky, etc… Sometimes I just wanted to giggly uncontrollably over some of the songs and lyrics.

Jordin Sparks’ 1st single is already doing better than anything on McPhee’s CD.

I predict Jordin to have a few hit singles and sell way more than the diva wanna be from Season 5.

  11. 11 Daughtry_AJ Nov 14th, 2007 at 10:35 am

Yes many do sound dangerously similar from the previews, but they are just previews after all. Anyway I hear at least three other hits besides Tattoo, my money’s on No Air as being the biggest song from the album, then from the clips I think Permanent Monday and One tep at a Time can do well. If she gets four good singles, she’ll easily sell 2 million, which is much better then our supposed season 5 winner’s failure to even get close to a million, and please never compare Jordin to Katherine, Jordin could never come across as snotty and unlikable as Mcphee, even if she tried. Her personality alone guarantees this album won’t end up like Mcphee’s.

I think she’ll sell better than McPhee and go GOLD fairly easily. But I predict she will struggle to sell platinum.

I tend to agree with this, but what do I know?

After the first clip I listened to, I had that thought also … oh no another bunch of dribble like Kat’a album (and I was a Kat fan)… but going on through, I did hear several tracks that I kind of liked: Freeze, Shy Boy, Next to You, and Young and In Love. At this point I am not impressed enough to buy the CD. But hard to tell for sure until I hear the whole songs.

Jordin has a much better voice for pop than Kat. And she’s 10x more likeable. She might surprise people and outsell Blake because I could see a whole album of his stuff getting a little tiresome. Jordin’s music might wear better. It’s hard to say w/o hearing more from both of them though.

  16. 16 IDOLIDOL Nov 14th, 2007 at 1:18 pm

Beat Box Blake’s CD will do just about as bad as McPhee’s.

  17. 17 maracaibo Nov 14th, 2007 at 1:54 pm

Blake’s record will probably sell more in the long run.
He is getting great reviews from the music critics. From what I heard so far, his album has pretty good current stuff and is very diverse.
His vocals are strong and the music is great. Each song has a different vibe and that is very appealing IMO.

I think he will do very well, but who know who will sell the most? Who cares?
I always thought Jordin and Blake would both do well with their careers and be successful. I think I might be right. JMHO.

Jordin Sparks’ 1st single is already doing better than anything on McPhee’s CD.

That statement is not completely true. Katharine has a gold single with “Over It” and I believe that she peaked at top 40 about where Jordin is sitting right now.

Jordin will most likely do better in sales than Kat, but she is not there yet.

And I am not of the opinion that personality sells CD’s much there sure are a lot of singers with really bad personalities, life styles, attitudes, etc who sell an awful lot of CD’s.

  19. 19 IDOLIDOL Nov 15th, 2007 at 7:29 am

    To xoxoyc:

Katharine McPhee’s 1st single “Over It” only got as high as # 29 on the Hot 100 before sinking faster than the Titanic. Her 2nd single, “Love Story” barely cracked the Top 40.

Jordin’s “Tattoo” is already at # 27 with a bullet. Even though she may have a gold single with “Over It”, her CD sales are dismal—selling less than 400,000 copies.

  20. 20 IDOLIDOL Nov 15th, 2007 at 7:36 am

And when other American Idol Season 5 alum—Kellie Pickler, Chris Daughtry, Elliott Yamin and Bucky Covington sell more than the runner-up, you know that she got to the finals because of her looks, not because of her singing talent.

  21. 21 snuffles Nov 15th, 2007 at 10:11 am

The cold hard truth is…having a single in the Top 40 doesn’t guarantee great CD sales - look at Mario Vasquez. And having a top selling CD doesn’t guarantee you’ll get played on the radio - look at Clay Aiken.

I find it amusing that Jordin fans point to the moderate success of “Tattoo” as a virtual guarantee that her CD will sell like gangbusters. That doesn’t guarantee diddly squat.

Let’s look at another example. Chris Brown’s “Kiss Kiss” is the #1 song in the country and his first week album sales were 300K. Yet, Carrie Underwood’s “So Small” sat at #27 on the Hot 100 and sold over 500K her first week.

As long as the buying public can still cherry pick their favorite songs off an album that will reduce CD sales for all artists.

i find it very funny how almost every reply here has hated on katharine mcphee…most likely most of u are girls so we all already know the reason why u guys are hating…i dont even need to give the reason cuz its very obvious ha ha just look at kats face and then look at yours LOL oops sorry…anyways i got jordins album and i like it its very good…but if were talking about whether or not kat or jordins album are better kats is a little bit more catchy in the long run and didnt get the cred that it deserved..and no she did not get to the finals based on her looks i mean who else was going to be able to possibly steal away the title from hideous hicks lol had she not been sick and in full vocal strength i still think she could have blown him away big time that night as jordin did to pathetic blake lewis…anyways point is jordin and kat are both good…kats making another album so she has no worries..SO DONT HATE HER lol
