Jordin Sparks – “Battlefield” Preview

Amazon UK has snippets of Jordin Sparks upcoming album,  Battlefield, up on their site.   Check out the snips HERE.   The UK version isn’t configured exactly like the US–”Tattoo” and “One Step at a Time”, both singles across the pond are included in the album’s track list. (I’m assuming Jordin’s debut wasn’t released over there?)

One of the tunes “S.O.S (Let The Music Play)”, a disco throwback nabs the chorus from the classic disco hit,  Shannon’s “Let the Music Play”  Sample lyric from Jordin’s song (check out the demo): “That little bitch don’t know who she’s messing with, I can’t believe it, but I think she’s undressing him…”   Our little Jordin, all growed up! Heh.

Battlefield will be available in the US on July 21.

The majority of those songs sound exactly alike. The only one I like is “Faith” – mainly because it’s the most unique sounding song on the album.

  • jack5791:

Again, hard to judge off clips but I really like what I’m hearing so far! Well done, Jordin.

  • tinawina:

I’m not going to judge on those clips because its too tough.

But I will say I hope she gets an album with some personality this time. That last one struck me as mighty generic, and she consequently bored me to tears on everything accept No Air. She has plenty to offer as a person and with her singing talent, so please Jive, lets hope you helped this talented girl find an artistic voice this time around.

And if y’all bland the shit out of Allison, I’m coming to your offices with a baseball bat. LOL.

  • primeminister:

Thanks for the link, mj. I’m guessing Jordin will tweak the lyrics to “Let the Music Play.”

ETA: Yep, she changed “bitch” to “chick.”

  • Michelle:

It’s all very dancy pop (judging from snippets), but I guess that’s what’s playing right now. I don’t know if people will buy the tough-girl image though… BUT at least it means no more little-girl poofy dresses!

I liked her last cd cause it seemed very true to her personality and had a few musically interesting cuts on there (freeze, see my side). I’ll need a longer listen to some of these songs on the new album before I decide whether to buy the whole thing.

‘That little bitch don’t know who she’s messing with, I can’t believe it, but I think she’s undressing him’ ¦’ Our little Jordin, all growed up! Heh

LOL But she had adapted the lyrics.
Don’t Let It Go To Your Head is also a cover btw.

I’m surprised Vertigo is just a bonus track on Itunes. I remember listening to it and thinking Lady Gaga, but judging by the snippets there’s lots of dancing in this album. It sounds like the album is a bit like the last one but with more dance and auto tune added to the songs.

Love the clips. Definately better than her first album (which I also liked). Just based on the clips: Walking on Snow, Watch You Go, S.O.S. (Let the Music Play), No Parade and Emergency (911) sound like they could be sizeable hits for Jordin. She has an impecable track-record on CHR and I think that her “hit” streak will continue!

ETA: Actually her debut was released in the UK, it was certified Gold there with sales of over 120,000.

Im excited, I really like walking on snow, let it rain, sos, and no parade! I think Jordin has several hits on her hands.

  • kimberann:

The songs all sound the same to me. Good luck to Jordin, but I don’t see this album doing as well as her first one.

  • carolinacharms:

Almost everything is mid-tempo. There’s not much variety here, but then again, there’s not much variety on top 40 radio these days. Same few names.

Radio-current cuts appear to be SOS, 911 and maybe Let It Rain.

  • primeminister:

I’m guessing the Dr. Luke/T-Plain collaboration “Let You Go” will be a single. I wish I could hear the whole song!

Walking on Snow and 911 seem to be good single candidates as well.

I’m excited. After listening to the snippets I will now have to buy it! I don’t have her first album, so I can only go by the singles she released – of which I only really liked ‘No Air.’ I did see her on the Idol tour and wondered what her music would sound like.
By the way…….she SOO needs to work with Chris Richardson from her season, write something together, do a duet. I loved them together on tour doing “What Hurts the Most” – give this boy some spotlight he needs a chance to remind people how awesome he is!!!!

  • amethyst02:

For me, “The Cure” is definitely the best song on here. I am absolutely in love with it, and it’s only the clip!
