I would have had more Jordin Sparks video to share, but the Video Police at Verizon Wireless…eh, it’s a long story. I’ll tell it over the weekend. At any rate, Ricky from ricky.org was also at the last show Sunday night and somehow managed to evade security
Check out his video of Jordin Sparks performing an a Capella version of “Hound Dog” during her set Sunday night.
Later, at the after show, Sarah (from Team Plaid) and I waited…and waited to chat with Jordin. The after party crowd had nearly cleared out and at that point it was after midnight. Nevertheless, Jordin took her time to bond with a group of young fans about her age. She chatted with them as if she’d just met them on the school bus or at a high school football game. She was completely down-to-earth, freindly, and spent lots of time taking pictures and numerous group hugs. Security stood by patiently while she finished, though I’m sure they were ready to move along. Heh.
When the kids finally left, I asked her how she felt about her single, “Tattoo” climbing up the pop charts and she said that she still thinks that it’s sort of surreal that she has a song on the radio.
Jordin was recently named one of Hollywood’s Hot Power Players by US Magazine. And her single “Tattoo” is now available on iTunes…

As much as I grew to dislike OMG17! by last May, I have to admit that her “Hound Dog” was awesome!
Jordin has an amazing voice for being the age that she is. There I didn’t say she was 17. I hope she does well with her album. Again, thanks mj for posting all of these videos and recaps. Even if you weren’t able to go to show, you made us all feel like we did.
She totally sang “Hound Dog” as a tribute to the yapping dog in “Tattoo” right?
“Tattoo” is actually growing on me. I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of Jordin’s album. I don’t really think it’s fair to pigeonhole her as a “Disney” artist…I think her appeal is much broader than that.
Am I mistaken or isnt this Elvis Pressley’s song hound dog. I believe one of his first rock and roll hits ever. I believe its in the rock n roll hall fame.
If not the first two lines are definetly in his song. I couldnt listen any longer then that because I just cant see it as a ballad or dont want to hear as one.
Well, “Hound Dog” (Leiber and Stoller) was written for and originally sung by Big Mama Thornton, a female blues singer. I am not familiar with what the original sounds like, but I think the song works better with a female voice (the lyrics make more sense too). Again, I’ll have to give OMG17! her props here. This performance reminded me of her “Gimme One Reason,” way back when she didn’t kinda sorta bug the bejeebus out of me.
Wasnt meaning it derogatory just that I was a tween when Elvis made this a hit and I wore out my 45 record of this song. It is one of the first pop records I had so is special to me. Yeah this dates me lol
Jordin looks so cute in her Little Miss Giggles T-Shirt.
Yeah, the original is a bit different from the Elvis version. I like ‘em both.
Ha! Agreed. As annoying as the “She’s only 17!” hype was, I have to say she was really charming and sounded amazing live. I also had the pleasure of meeting her for a brief moment on Saturday night and was impressed by how nice she was to everyone even as security was trying to hustle us out. Yeah, I’m on her side again.
Well I’ll say this about Jordin. She appears to be very approachable and everyone comments on how nice she is. That’s good to hear. As a mom of two young girls, I’d be thrilled to see her make it. She seems to have a good head on her shoulders and she looks like a normal person - not skinny as a toothpick. Based on what I’ve seen of her so far, I’d be happy if my girls became fans…
She 100% won over us last week. I’ve never had anything against her, but she just wasn’t the first person I’d say I was a fan of from AI6. (She’s still not, cause I’m a CAKE fan, but she definitely moved up a couple notches.) My friend’s 8 year old was sitting with me with her Jordin Sparks sign, and Jordin made a point to make eye contact, smile, and wave at Abby several times throughout the show. Let me tell you - that little girl was so excited! It made the night. (Well, that, and me accosting Chris Rich, but whatever - Jordin was the highlight for Abby.)
You know, I started off really liking Jordin, but the Just! 17!!1! stuff, along with the overpimping, really got on my nerves toward the end of the show.
That said, she really does sound great live, and I’m impressed that even with all the big belting songs she did on tour that can really strain the voice, she didn’t miss a single show, or even cut a song.
Plus, I give her major, major points for being the last Idol in the room on Sunday night, and taking the time to stand and talk to everyone who was there to see her. MJ and I were among the last few, but she was still as sweet and accepting as ever even once it got down to the end, and it was after midnight.
I’m not crazy about “Tattoo”, so I hope there’s some better, more original material on her album, but I do wish her all the success in the world. She seems very grounded. I think she’s ready for it.
