An obvious pantimime….but then aren’t they all. Not a slam BTW.

    I liked the version….better than Whitney’s.

I hope someone somewhere is able to upload all the AI commercials tonight. Brooke White and David Cook sound great in Hollywood; hopefully we’ll see a few more snippets.

Oh, and Jordin was great too!

  3. 3 Tony Feb 3rd, 2008 at 7:51 pm

It’s too bad that people are forced to lip sync (as I just learned, lol). Nevertheless, Jordin killed it! Great job.

  4. 4 grrrr Feb 3rd, 2008 at 8:07 pm

Oh, I loved the Hollywood commercial showing a few of the contestants and their instruments. Brooke sounded amazing.

  5. 5 foxydonna Feb 3rd, 2008 at 8:21 pm

And don’t forget “my” Robbie! (oh God, did I actually say that?) Can’t seem to get the vid of Jordin to load right now. Will watch it later. And Tom Petty RAWKED!!! GO GIANTS (sorry MJ)

  6. 6 maracaibo Feb 3rd, 2008 at 8:21 pm

Jordin was lip-syncing? I didn’t know they did that.
    Nevertheless, she did great.

  7. 7 foxydonna Feb 3rd, 2008 at 8:25 pm

OK, video loaded… amazing job by Jordin. Brought tears to my eyes. Wow!

  8. 8 Chicago-sally Feb 3rd, 2008 at 8:28 pm

She was “OK” nothing spectacular. Hey MJ do you have the Paula Abdul tape?

  9. 9 gabam Feb 3rd, 2008 at 8:30 pm

It looked as if Jordin was singing live on TV. I think she was. She sounded good.

She look nervous so I was nervous for her. Glad she pulled it off so well.

  10. 10 Chicago-sally Feb 3rd, 2008 at 8:45 pm

Gabam: it was prerecorded. Very little is “live” these days. FYI: TMZ has the paula Abdul tape, but it’s a little choppy.

Singing at the Super Bowl is so much more meaningful than the “recording contract prize” for the Idol winner. I’m happy to see Jordin get this opportunity.

I liked her version better than Whitney’s too.

  12. 12 mj Feb 3rd, 2008 at 9:33 pm

There is a link to the Paula vid in today’s headlines. My recorder didn’t change channels correctly, and I didn’t get it.

    ETA: Here is Paula’s vid:

Jordin’s version was very good. I agree.

Where can I see Paula’s performance? I heard she did great too?
Are you going to post it too mj?

  14. 14 mj Feb 3rd, 2008 at 9:37 pm

I thought Jordin looked fabulous, and did a nice job of lip syning. Heh.

It’ll be interesting to see if she gets a boost this week in album or download sales.

The Paula vid was ok. If you notice, Paula didn’t do a whole lot of dancing, the people around her did the heavy lifting. I wonder if she choreographed it herself?

PS. Are there ANY Patriots fans here at all?

    Didn’t think so. lol.

  15. 15 primeminister Feb 3rd, 2008 at 9:42 pm

Of course! Patriots represent! (This is only because I don’t want a riot to break out on campus….)

  16. 16 Chicago-sally Feb 3rd, 2008 at 9:42 pm

Paula is what — 48 y.o.? She’s not expected to dance like Beyonce :biggrin_wp:
I thought it was well choreographed and she looked beautiful! and actually looked like she could go back to the music biz easily….and Randy looked like he was having fun too.

  17. 17 Anne67 Feb 3rd, 2008 at 10:02 pm

    She was “OK” nothing spectacular

Same here. Don’t get wrong she did fine. 18 years old singing in front of 70K some people, it was good. Doesn’t hold a candle to Whitney’s or the Dixie Chicks version; which is the best IMHO…and I’m not a fan of the Dixie Chicks. But yeah, Jordin did “ok” and looked just a cute as she could be.

  18. 18 mj Feb 3rd, 2008 at 10:17 pm

Yikes. Can a city commit communal suicide? A tough loss for Boston, but they had a great season.

  19. 19 primeminister Feb 3rd, 2008 at 10:21 pm

    Shoot….a lot of screaming now.

It’s too bad, really. Hopefully, people won’t be in a pissy mood tomorrow.

  20. 20 poporange Feb 3rd, 2008 at 10:27 pm

Jordan did fine singing the Na the best I heard not by far the poor girl looked soo nervous. Will the people in get real remember her singing it get real they will not they will remember how the Patriots wents 18-0 and lost the superbowl to the Giants.

The commerciaL for holleywood not surprised that thier good knowing thier backgrounds pros or semi pros. Thier will blow the last two seasons talent out of the water thats never was the problem. This is the year of expeariance of American Idol.
The Giants played excelent defence and got to the qb and had clutch offensive plays.

  21. 21 Bobbi Feb 3rd, 2008 at 10:30 pm

I’m a Pats fan, mj, and live with a Giants fan! I’ve not seen him this excited since I’ve known him! Tough to watch this loss with him jumping out of his seat.

  22. 22 mj Feb 3rd, 2008 at 10:31 pm

It’s too bad, really. Hopefully, people won’t be in a pissy mood tomorrow.

Oh, they will be. At least where I work. Not looking forward to that! lol.

Oh well. Congratulations Giants! Well played.

  23. 23 foxydonna Feb 3rd, 2008 at 10:38 pm

Outstanding game! I’m from NE but live in Giants’ territory now so you gotta kinda go with the flow! My big problem was watching URI (my alma mater) beat Syracuse in basketball earlier this season. Now that tore me up!

  24. 24 erennick Feb 3rd, 2008 at 10:40 pm

It definitely sucks! The Giants defense played the best of any defense all year, but OUCH! I’m in Rhode Island… My husband has yet to utter a word or move from his chair. It was a great game, just not the ending Patriot fans had in mind.

Jordin looked great and made the anthem sound almost like a pop song…

Off to toss and turn myself to sleep.

  25. 25 poporange Feb 3rd, 2008 at 10:45 pm

NA is not a pop song..I wonder how many Clive will sign right away ? If AI was in charge of NFL it would say New England is the true winner because on paper a better team. Then stack thier coloedge team with pros who recetly retired.Enjoy the American Pros I will miss this season.

Sorry upset they turned the superbowl into Ai commercial thanks.

  26. 26 pj Feb 3rd, 2008 at 10:48 pm

Thanks, MJ! I was at a party and people were too loud to hear Jordin. She looked fantastic, though. People were saying things like, “Is American Idol still on?” LOL.

We had one couple from Boston who were pretty loud and they left immediately after the game. I have to say I was rooting for the Giants. If I don’t have a vested interest, I go for the underdogs. Seemed to be the general consensus. :-)

  27. 27 catdog Feb 3rd, 2008 at 10:58 pm

Jordin did really well - lip sync or not she still had to record it!

Paula too pulled it off quite well for someone who has not been dancing for a while in public. She also was not singing live but it worked. I think she has a hit on her hands.

GO GIANTS! I am still in shock - I never would have believed that comeback - best Super Bowl game ever! And I’m a Bucs fan!!!! LOL

  28. 28 AFan Feb 3rd, 2008 at 11:06 pm

First off, I could care less about football, but that was a decent game.
Jordin did a great job but did anyone notice how much she was channeling Beyonce? Facial expressions, body language and all.
Paula! That was actually good. I love that song. My favorite part though, was when she came out wearing that same outfit and hat. I love it! That is some grade A 1987 tom-foolery right there Ms. Abdul!
By the way, thank you Tom Petty for providing me with absolutely nothing.

  29. 29 Sarah Feb 3rd, 2008 at 11:47 pm

Jordin sounded great!! And it was a hell of a great game too. Go Giants! :)

  30. 30 MaryS-NJ Feb 4th, 2008 at 12:07 am

I said on the other thread that I thought Jordin did a great job with the SSB. I was surprised she had lip-synched the performance, but I guess it’s got to be terrifying standing in front of a crowd of 74,000 and singing - even if it is her home town. I missed Paula’s number. My husband said out of the blue after the third American Idol commercial: “Huh, looks like they [Fox] didn’t sell all their ad space and have to use it to advertise their own shows.” It hadn’t occurred to me but hmm… not sure if that’s the case, but at $2.7 million per 30 second spot, maybe so. Heh.

Totally, non-AI related…can I just say that I’m thrilled for the Giants! Just thrilled - especially for Eli Manning who was being written off earlier this season. Talk about bringing their A-game to the post season. Those guys just kicked all sorts of ass! *says proud Giants fan*

And the Patriots have the best season win record of any team in NFL history. Great players all. What an exciting game that was! I’m still tingling!

  31. 31 jobbix Feb 4th, 2008 at 12:10 am

She did an O.K. job. But every rendition of NA at SB will be compared to Whitney Houston’s, then Jordin didn’t even come close, lip-sync or not. Is it just me or she really gained a lot of weight?

  32. 32 carolina Feb 4th, 2008 at 12:20 am

I thought Jordin did a super job! And jobbix, I thought she’d lost weight. Looks good, sounds good. All is good!

    Whitney who?

Now I need to watch Pauler — cover me, I’m going in.

  33. 33 carolina Feb 4th, 2008 at 12:24 am

mj, the link on Pauler is dead — declared “private by the author”.

(grow up and get over yourself Pauler!)

  34. 34 carolina Feb 4th, 2008 at 12:39 am

Went to Youtube — found a video of Paula’s song with Britney dancing. I’d read earlier this week that there was some suspicion that Pauler had copied Britney — watch this

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=MUmhduFxJsQ&feature=related

Here’s her video: (not from the Superbowl)

  35. 35 carolina Feb 4th, 2008 at 12:42 am

I’m posting to myself ! but, they say this is the Super Bowl performance video –

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=-9fDx_dujME

  36. 36 abbysee Feb 4th, 2008 at 1:17 am

I don’t understand the copying britney deal. The first video is recent and the second video is a fan made video of stuff done way before Britney was a star…..and the superbowl video bears no resemblance to britney. Anyway britney is a fake dancer, I always thought she looked as if she were counting the steps in her head, not natural at all. I say Paula’s comeback was way better than poor Britney, hell she couldn’t even say she was old, like some would say of Paula. Just bad…..

eta, Paula was pretty damn good. I like that song, Randy did a good thing for Ms. Abdul, and maybe had a hit for them both in the process too. Jordan was good, not great, but she actually looked alot slimmer to me.

  37. 37 Chicago-sally Feb 4th, 2008 at 7:12 am

No way are those two choreographs similar. Paula is doing a lot of slinking and walking around the stage, Britney is doing more cheerleader moves!

No way are they similar. Plus, for a woman who is 48 y.o. (?) she still has the smooth moves.

Almost everybody does those choreographed dance steps and actually they all sound alike to me — Britney, Paula, Janet, Ciara….it’s hard to stand out when everybody copies everybody.

  38. 38 Nanny Mcphee Feb 4th, 2008 at 7:17 am

    Whitney Houston>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Jordin Sparks

    IMO.

  39. 39 jersey Feb 4th, 2008 at 7:50 am

I thought Jordin sounded great, but more importantly - Yay Giants!!!! So happy for Eli and crew.

  40. 40 Paula Feb 4th, 2008 at 9:36 am

I think both Paula and Jordin did great, and Jordin has lost a lot of weight. Her dress was very becoming.
