Jordin Sparks Surprise Performance: “Crazy” with Bluegrass Band the Time Jumpers
Country singer Vince Gill met Jordin Sparks at a recent Jonas Brothers concert, and when he found out she grew up listening to “hillbilly” music, he invited her to check out the bluegrass group the Time Jumpers at a small Nashville club Monday night.
Jordin joined the band on stage to sing the classic Patsy Cline tune “Crazy”. Her version is a lovely, run-free homage to the original.
Check out the Video below…

This may be off topic but did anybody hear the trainwreck version of “Crazy” by Taylor Swift on some big show a couple of weeks ago. GAWD, it was bad!
I’m not a Jordin fan but that was lovely.
Like Randy Jackson said, if you can sing, you can sing anything, even the phonebook. Jordin has a beautiful voice, simply put, that was hot!
Very nice….
She did a nice job. If that was completely spontaneous, then she did an awesome job. I don’t know how musicians who don’t know each other just jump up and do a song together. I mean–she’d have to have sung it before to know it and to know her key. It’s a standard, so they probably know it, but still, it’s a good musician who can play a song in any key. And then, you don’t know how you’ll end it, etc. Anyway, I’ve tried this before, and the performance is riddled with errors because you don’t know what the other people are planning. So, I’m pretty impressed if they only just worked it out on the fly like that.
As a bluegrass musician for 40 years now, I can tell you that this kind of performance is not that uncommon….we take real pride in being great musicians (not all of us are hilljacks, as stereotyped)…and if those guys are who I think they are (BTW, this was at the Station Inn, where some of the best sidemen in the industry hang out between tours) then they’ve played bigger stages than Jordan has yet to even see.
As far as the arrangement, it sounds fairly traditional and those guys know it like the backs of their hands.
She did a great job.
Amen Nostradamas. Some of the best musicians ever are bluegrass.
And as for her voice on this song. Down with the runs. Yay for simplicity.
She did a really good job!
Beautiful Jordin!
She sounded a little like Norah Jones here to me. (That’s a good thing.
)
I really liked that! She did a great job.
She had me at the first “Crazy”. Wow. I thought she sounded amazing.
Also not a Jordin fan but I have to give her major props for that! Awesome!
OK so the first time I heard about Jordin singing Crazy I thought it was the Gnarls Barkley Crazy. This is just all kinds of yummy. Though she doesn’t sing it with the Patsy Cline awesomeness (who could?) she does a great job. I’m very impressed. Jordin has risen at least two notches in my estimation. Oh, and while I didn’t hear anything much bluegrass about the band, bluegrass FTMFW (one of my all time favorite genres).
Jordin did a great job with Crazy. I’m still partial to Diana DeGarmo’s version though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQ1imqLaOz8&feature=related
The Time Jumpers includes some of the best Nashville session musicians working today. NPR just did a long piece on the band.

These folks could play any song with anybody and make it sound professional. I’d wager to say these are the best musicians Jordin is ever likely to share a stage with.
Thanks, LoveRollercoaster. I clicked on the link and they confirmed that they aren’t indeed a bluegrass by saying they do things like a bluegrass band. I’m happy to know I’m not crazy (this time). They are very good however and not being a bluegrass band is in no was a diss. Some of the best musicians ever are bluegrass musicians…not at all an easy genre.
I didn’t watch S6 and therefore have only known Jordin from her radio stuff. I am impressed! I had no idea her voice was so rich.
Isn’t this nice, I LOVE this song.
A long time ago… Leslie Hunt covered it with her old band.
Oh I dunno, but I think Leann Rimes comes damn close. (She is my fave country singer). Talk about a voice, dayum.

Another version by Leann (I prefer this one)

Okay, decent enough. Did Jason sing this? If not, it’s a perfect song for him– I kept hearing things that he could and prolly would do with it, lol. Literally sounded as if it were written for him, with all those short phrases so he could take lots of scoopy breaths. If he hasn’t recorded it, he should record it tomorrow.
^Jason sang Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy, that’s a different song.
