Does that mean that those 8 songs that are on the EP will also be on the full album? Or will the album have all new songs?

  • ianamy:

I don’t understand why doesn’t he release the LP? Jan is not a good month for album release.

Who is this guy and why do I care? I missed something, I think. Help!

  • mac:

    Patchchat,

Josiah was on AI 7 during the audition rounds. He was a cute kid, more the musician type than just a straight vocalist. He lived out of his car. They showed him a lot during the auditions (he cried a lot LOL), but then they cut him at the end. There was a HUGE reaction on the internet when he got cut. I liked Josiah a lot. Seemed like a nice and talented kid. Can’t wait to hear his EP.

He’ll be releasing it alongside LaKisha Jones.

  • I hope there’s a (legal but not too expensive) way for me to get Josiah’s EP. I like this kid and his music.

    Oh yippee… Josiah is back.

Josiah’s bit was kind of a fascinating piece of the ‘Hollywood Week” show, because he was pretty awesome when he sang a Snow Patrol song a capella, and the very quirky gayish anthem “Grace Kelly” . . . but he actually would have been horrible on the show itself. He fell apart the very first time he had to struggle with working with the band and the judges, but he did so in a memorable way….and then Oprah had him on her show and music biz people were reportedly calling him up offering to work with him (his saga is mostly on YouTube)

I think the Idol producers ate it up because it fit with their narrative of “we’re not just snacking on failure and grief, even if you lose you win on our show.” I hope it does turn out that way for Josiah. His back story involved being very poor and fairly alone, even if the “living in a car” bit was a little exaggerated. It would suck if the whole thing had boiled down to “that was your ten minutes on TV, now back to your bleak future.” I will certainly give his ep a listen.

I think it was Ellen, not Oprah, but maybe he did Oprah, too, sometime when I wasn’t looking. Ellen gave him some stuff — don’t remember exactly what, but I think it may’ve been a guitar or a laptop or recording equipment — something to make music with. The saddest part of his story to me was that his mother is ill, with a very rare and very bad kind of cancer (leiomyosarcoma — I think I spelled that right) with extremely crappy odds for survival. (I think one in ten lives three years after diagnosis.) I have a friend who has that very same kind of cancer, and I think it’s so awful for young, vibrant people with families and lives they thought they would be living, to fall to something like that, which is rare enough to not have a whole lot of research or money behind it. To me, part of the reason Josiah was acting out on AI was because he was doing the show both as avoidance and also to try to get some cash quickly because of what was going on with his mom.

Anyway… I felt some sympathy for him, and I wish they had decided to torture somebody else during Hollywood week. He seemed to be in the crosshairs of some really bad stuff already, and he didn’t need AI to make it worse.

He was on Ellen, and yes, she gave him a bunch of new music equipment which he became very excited about.

I agree. For all the reasons you mentioned, he would have been a disaster on the show. I was sad to see him go, but better to flame out early looking good with your pride intact than to have lingered on and been given the fools edit. He’s doing just fine.

I adore this kid and his music. He has a musical soul and I so tap into his lyrics. Just incredible stuff. I feel the way about him that I felt about Elton John when I was a kid, like Bernie Taupin’s lyrics were keys to the universe. I guess sorta like trying to understand what every word and nuance mean, even when I know that sometimes I will never know….anyway enough effusing about Josiah. His backstory was interesting, but it was his music that kept me interested. Can’t wait.

January may be the best time for Josiah, away from the tons of idol related stuff, he can have a drop day to himself.

I agree that he would have fallen apart on the show (making Jason and Brooke look like pillars). Does that mean I don’t think he’ll put out some great music? Absolutely not! I loved what I saw of him and am excited to hear what he does with his major label backing. Honestly, I’m more interested in hearing his release than those of Cook and Archuleta.

I’m not a huge fan of Archie, but I’m waaay more interested in what he might produce than Josiah. That kid was whiny and SMUG. I could not wait for him to be off the show. Good luck to him but I’ll continue to wait on Cookie’s release with bated breath. Come on November.
