Justin Guarini Will Be Part of the Next Season of Gone Country

Does anybody watch CMT’s Gone Country?   Previous seasons have featured Idols Diana DeGarmo (S2-2)and Mikalah Gordon (S4-11) .   Justin Guarini (S1-2) has been chosen as the token Idol for Gone Country’s 3rd season, that just began filming in Nashville.   The show will debut in January.

Here’s the lineup, according to People magazine:

Those who’ll vie to create a hit country single with show host John Rich (one half of Big & Rich) are Miss USA 2006 Tara Conner, former Monkees drummer Micky Dolenz, funk master George Clinton, actor Richard Grieco, ’80s pop star Taylor Dayne, Prince protà ©gà © and drummer Sheila E and former American Idol runner-up Justin Guarini.

George Clinton should be a hoot.   And I may just watch the show for Micky Dolenz.   I’m a big Monkees fan, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Heh.

Gone Country brings a group of hopefuls together to Nashville for a two-week immersion course in all things country. Each contestant is eventually paired with two Nashville songwriters to write a country song.   At the end of the two weeks, Rich will decide who gets to release his or her single to country radio.

Previous winners include Julio Iglesias, Jr., and former Skid Row front man Sebastian Bach.   Both singers sound like dubious choices to me.   Correct me if I’m wrong, I’m assuming their “singles” went nowhere–I did a quick search in the Billboard archives and found nada.

Is this show worth watching?

  • Julio Iglesias Jr, the brother of Enrique Iglesias was in that show…man!!!1 and I though that their father ´s name will be enough to get a recall deal, guess I was wrong…Good for Mr. Guarini…

  • ooooooooh Micky micky micky :)

sighhhh i use to have such a crush on him… we’ll see what he looks like now :)

  • Let’s just go with it’s been a loooong 40 plus years

  • Micky Dolenz is a really good singer. I kid you not. He probably can’t hit the high notes the way he used to, but I’ll bet he’ll sound great singing country.

  • I love Micky. Seen him in concert a few times, but it has been a long 40 years since the Monkees was filmed.

I’ve never heard of this show, but I may need to tune in.

  • I watched most of the first season and some of the second. It’s a crack up! I lmbo last year when Irene Cara got mad and left the house. I actually came off liking Mikalah better after seeing her in this.. though I may not have caught any episodes where she had bad moments.

  • Left the house? Are they confined together for the show?

  • Yes.. and they go do activities together. They fight a lot too..heh

  • So it’s Big Brother with singing. I might be skipping it.

  • Micky was my favorite Monkee. I’ve never watched the show but I may have to catch a couple.

  • I love Mickey Dolenz! Although Peter Tork was always my fav. George Clinton on Gone Country??!!?!?? LOLOL!

  • I just may watch this time. I enjoyed the first season, but, wasn’t interested in the group they had last time. Other than, the former Miss USA, I’m a fan of all of the rest of them.

  • Just a quick sidenote, not name dropping. My husband and I bought a second hand car we answered an ad in the paper for here. Went to the owner’s house in London, the man was from California. He looked familiar and I was talking to him about what he was doing here. His name was Michael Dolenz but I never made the connection! Wasn’t til I mentioned to a friend that I had bought a car from an american named Michael Dolenz that they said “didn’t he used to be a Monkee?” DOH!

But the reason I say this is he was TINY!!! I am 5′ 7″ and he was easily a head shorter than me. Which begs the question, how short was Davy Jones as he was the short one?

He was very nice and pleasant. And I am glad I didn’t recognise him or I would have gone all spazzy girly fan!

  • Squeee!!! Taylor Dane! I wanted to be Taylor Dane for a short period of time.

Season one was a total crack up — Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) just had me rollin on the floor. And came off very sensitive and protective of Diana.

Saw bits and pieces of last year. Looked pretty funny too as they had the complete loon Sean Young amongst the cast.

This is a great show to watch as long as you don’t take anything, including the music, seriously.

  • MJ – I actually did watch this show and I liked it, not crazy for it, but it was entertaining. I liked how John Rich interacted with the singers, he was tough but not ugly about things and his pep talks usually brought results. Call me crazy but, oh my, sigh, I had a crush on ole Sebastian back in the day and even went to a concert of his at Irvine Amp in Cal. I was rooting for him for old times sake. Anyways, I think this is worth a watch, Justin seems like the nicest guy and I hope he does well on it. I think you will like it better than that show with Hasselhoff, I couldnt stand to watch that.

Oh and Mickey was MY favorite monkey, he was the funniest. There were some very touching moments on this show along with some stupid stuff but I hope you watch it Mj and we can watch it along with you

  • Mickey Dolenz was a hoot. I remember him from when I was a kid. They had monkeys trading cards with their pictures on the front and a puzzle on the back, if you got the entire series it was supposed to be a quitar. Never completed the set, dammit, though me and my big brother tried. Oh, it came with a stick of gum too! Happy times, lol.

Justin Guarini is a doll. He is just the nicest guy. He is also extremely talented. I don’t know if I can watch the show, just can’t stand modern country music much, only small doses, but I hope he and Mickey do well.

  • I’ve watched both seasons of this and I love it. John Rich always has them do crazy stuff, like shoveling cow and pig crap and all that “country” stuff. LOL. I don’t even watch it so much for the music aspect… just watching the over-inflated egos of some of the stars, especially when JR makes them do some of that stuff, is hilarious.

IMO, Diana deserved to win season 1, hands down. She was definitely one of the best, if not THE best. But last year, Mikalah reminded me why I couldn’t stand her on AI… not only was she annoying as heck, she’s an awful singer.

I’ll definitely be watching season 3. I love this show!

  • I loved the Monkees. And I married a man who look(ed) just like Mike Nesmith. He still does. Now if only he had all that White Out money.

I’ve never seen this show, but I do remember thinking that John Rich wasn’t making any friends by being really mean about AI when his show isn’t nearly as popular.

  • Yes Mj it is worth watching. Even if it is just for the entertainment value. Julio iglasias was a ridculous choice the first season. But Sebastian Bach had a really good song and it sounded really country. He has a really good voice. I remember all the posters on my walls of him when I was a teenager. I think he may be working on a cd. Not sure.

  • HEY HEY WE’RE THE MONKEES! Woo hoo. I loved that show. And I like Gone Country. I wanted Sebastian to win and he did. Diana did deserve it the first season and should have won. I agree with whoever said they were reminded why Mikayla was annoying on Idol, I thought the same thing.

My favorite Monkee was Michael Nesmith.

  • This show is just too much. And by too much, I mean too awful, lol. I did watch some of last season b/c I used to be a huge NSync fan (shut up) and Chris Kirkpatrick was on there. I couldnt make myself watch every episode though.
I will try to watch some this season though, b/c I do like Justin. However, is this taking away from his TV Guide gig??? I enjoy watching him on that.
Oh, and Peter was my favorite Monkee.
