Jason Castro Signs with Atlantic Records, Writing and Recording with Kara DioGuardi – VIDEO

UPDATE: Jason tells Billboard Magazine that he’s signed to Atlantic Records and that he hopes to get a record out by summertime. Check the video interview after the jump.
Kara DioGuardi spills the beans in a new video she just put up on her You Tube page.
After the jump, check out Jason, in a Los Angeles studio working with Kara and producer John Fields (Jonas Brothers, Switchfoot) on a song Jason and Kara wrote together called “Miles Away.”
Further proof that good things are coming Jason’s way: In his latest blog, Season 6’s Chris Sligh–in Los Angeles recently for songwriting sessions–talks about meeting Jason for dinner recently and hints at big things to come:
I called Jason Castro to say hello and found out he’s living in the L.A. area now working on writing his album. I won’t steal his thunder but congrats to Jason on his success… He’s writing like crazy and is excited about what’s happening for his career. Again, there’s not much else I can say at this point, nor should I say…but know that Jason is doing great!
So, maybe those rumors about a record deal are true…

I liked that Billboard interview – made me remember why I was rooting for Jason last year – that boy totally exudes effortless charm. Hope the formal announcement comes out soon – I want to see Jason back on the Idol stage promoting his single!
Atlantic has some great artists–Jason Mraz, Tracy Chapman. This is great–really incredible–news for Jason. When so much time passed, I really didn’t think it would happen for him. I really hope he releases a great album.
This is awesome news – Atlantic should be a very good fit for Jason. I liked him a lot last season and several of his performances rank right up there amongst my all-time Idol faves. Hell, I liked almost the entire top 10 in S7, which has never remotely been the case before and is decidedly not the case this season. So it’s fantastic to see so many of them working hard, forging their own paths and getting some breaks that could help them find success in this meatgrinder of a business. I look forward to hearing what he puts out there.
I nearly missed this party and I’m glad I scrolled down!! Yay for Jcas, can’t wait t get that record.
Who knew Kara had some positives??? I better not let her negatives blind me and hope she’s a positive for Jason. I’m willing to give her a second chance.
I am so happy for Jason – this is terrific news! He was my favorite from Season 7 and one of my favorites of all time. Such charisma…just a sweetheart! I can’t wait to buy his CD. WTG Jason!
Hi vagabond! I agree about the warm fuzzies.
Awesome! Congrats to Jason!
Good for Jason. He may not have been my favorite during the season but he seems like a sweet guy and I wish him luck.
Gingerly I’m curious what this is based on. Have you heard a lot of his own songwriting? Did you know about him before Idol? On the show, he had to sing covers, so there was no hint of his own songwriting abilities.
I get the feeling that he is a songwriter and he’s been writing a lot of songs. I’m not sure why you think he is a terrible songwriter, based on what? Plus he’s young and probably has a lot of learning still to do, but I like his sensibilities and sensitivity, I think he might have something to say worth hearing.
John Fields, the Jonas Bros. producer working with Jason on “Miles Away” in the Kara video, has personally produced top 40 or AC albums for Miley Cyrus, Mandy Moore, Clay Aiken, and Pink, as well as for more alternative artists like Soul Asylum, Jimmy Eat World, Lifehouse, Rooney, and Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket. The latter two in bold type are favorites close to my heart.
Looking at the albums Fields has helmed, his production values on those with which I am familiar seem to be glossy and smooth — but in a way that is respectful of the artist’s uniqueness. I hope he will let Jason be the best Jason he can be.
I may end up liking his music the most of any, who knows, but he comes across as so vacuous I can’t stand to see him in interviews.
i’ve read so many threads on jason being signed with atlantic and writing/recording for his album that i don’t remember where i read this but his album is slated for a july ‘09 release so the single should come out very, very soon. you know it’ll come out months before the album considering atlantic records is a major record label and that’s the way major records promote their albums.
Cute video clip of an interview that Jason did with Sirius radio last May but they just put it up on YouTube:
