She looks pretty on that cover.

To me, she was always meant to be an adult pop kind of artist. maybe with a jazzy overlay. Is that where she’s going this time? I hope it works for her.

And I love her voice without hearing the the songs on the album.

To me she always comes off as desperate, someone who doesn’t know who she is, has no artistic integrity, will change herself or contort herself into anything if it might sell a cd. What next, a country cd, then a rap cd? Who is she anyway? She seems like she’ll do anything to make a buck. She’s like a product in search of its brand name. Ugh.

On her season I felt that she was beautiful and had a pretty voice, but was not really a musical artist, had been spoiled to death by her parents who were determined she would be a star. She hasn’t done anything since the show to change my impression of her. I thought last I heard she was going to do ballads, or musical theater? I thought she wanted to be a serious actress?

I agree that the hair was a stroke of genius. It has gained her so much attention, press, and interest in the new CD. Hey look at all the other Season 5 veterans, possibly with the exception of Daughtry and even that I’m not so sure, no other artist from that season has had so much press and reporting 6-8 weeks before the release of their CD. She has definitely raised her marketability. Like the hair or not, its just hair. It can grow back and the color and style changed. It is fun for her and great for interest in her.

On the music level, the clips in the behind the scenes webisodes and demos of the songs listed above have made me certain that this CD will be amazing. I think she has found her voice as an artist and I am so excited to hear more from the CD.

I like the new look (sure it’s a shocking metamorphasis, but I suspect that was the whole idea) and her new song too. I just wish they hadn’t taken the instrumentation on the single so far toward country sound. The track listing is floating around too…

I will say at least it’s an INTERESTING album cover. I’m always kind of surprised that so often these idols come out w/ CDs & the cover is just a photo of them. Just a photo – nothing interesting, nothing special. And they all just name their CDs with just their own name. At least this photo is interesting, with the reflection. I doubt the CD will go anywhere (haven’t heard it – the link didn’t work for me). I agree it’s probably better than her last one because most anything will be. But you never know. I agree the look is very marilyn but she didn’t need it – pretty enough as a brunette.

It’s that finger-at-the-mouth thing. Deliberate choice, I’m sure. Interesting. Kat’s really pretty, as always. I’m guessing this album will be more melodic, and that’s certainly way way better for her voice. The other album didn’t play to her strengths at all.

@JosieX, your entire post is full of WIN! I especially loved the Macy’s line and yes, so true. I did enjoy the track when I listened the other night, but you’re right, I don’t think I’d even remember it if I heard it again right now. Also that pseudo video thing, WTF? Either she was singing into her armpit or they kept angling her to the side to sing over her shoulder (classic Posh pose) which makes her look even skinnier. I kept thinking, “Kat, if you show me that razor sharp shoulderblade ONE more time, I’m shutting this video down.”

She looked like a freakin POW in those shots.

Yes, the Marilyn Monroe look, but I first thought about Debra Harry (Blondie) in her hey day. May Katherine be as fortunate as Ms. Harry in recording and selling her CD. Kat still remains one of the most beautiful women to appear on AI.

Blondie is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I did not watch her season of AI, so I am neutral about her. I do remember seeing pictures of her before, and I thought she was a beautiful girl. I thought she had a recognizable look then. Not now. Couldn’t you go into any Macy’s in SoCal and trip over a hundred of her before you got to the perfume counter? I don’t know. I listened to the track that MJ posted earlier today. It was nice enough I guess, but I couldn’t now tell you the first thing about it now if you put a gun to my head. But I hope that her handlers are advising her well and that her efforts are appreciated in the niche for which they are intended, just as I would for any young person trying to make it in a tough world.

I guess I’m the only one who kinda digs the new look. I just wish she wen’t old school jazz with the Marilyn look. The look doesn’t match the song at all. No doubt she doesn’t know who she is as an artist, but come on Verve!

TRUST ME – this album I believe will be so much better than the first. I’ve heard Katharine’s versions of Had It All and part of It Wont Hurt So Much, and then I’ve heard versions of songs sung by their writers that Kat recorded that may potentially be on the album – and they all sound GREAT

I agree that the blonde hair was a stroke of genius. It also lends her an air of mystique. The pretty brunette thing wasn’t going to take her very far. Love it or hate it, she stands out more with the blonde and the sassier personality that seems to have come along with it. There are a lot of pretty girls with good voices out there. She needed an edge.
