Katharine McPhee’s new single, “Had it All” from her upcoming album, Unbroken, due in stores October 6, is available on iTunes now.
The song is written by Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, Dave Hodges and Mitch Allen
Check out the song on her MySpace, or listen after the jump.

“Had it All” is better than nearly everything on her post-Idol debut, Katharine McPhee. Maybe Kat’s found a label, Verve, who will do her right. But, that blonde hair? Just. No.

I hope she doesn’t guest on Idol this coming season, but the Kara connection may come into play. There are a whole list of Idol alums who I would much rather see again.
I didn’t care much about McPhee on AI and her first album, but wow, I really love her voice on this one. The song is good, not great though. And I love her new image much more too.
Ditto. Thank goodness for DVR.
Her voice sounds really good here. No cringe-inducing runs in her upper register and her lower register has always been beautiful. I don’t know about the song though, I don’t like the chorus much (I don’t think I care for cliche Kara). I do however, like the bridge quite a bit. Her voice sounds really great on that part. I wonder if her voice is distinct enough for her to really have an impact on the music world, or if that even matters.
As for the look, whatever. She’s a beautiful girl regardless of the hair color, although I would not have recognized her from the black and white chain link fence picture if I hadn’t been told it was her. My only gripe would be that she is really looking too skinny.
haha, why? does it really matter that much? i hope there’ll be as many former idols as possible on next season
I haven’t listened to the song, but I just have to say two things:
1. the blonde hair = yuck; and
2. the girl really needs to eat a burger. Or ten. I weigh about 125 lbs and I’d look like a beached whale next to her.
Edit; listened to the song. I like it. Really dumb video though, and I *really* hate the hair. lol
Its weird to hear Katherine sing “Had it all” cause I have the live version of Kara singing it on youtube on my ipod.
Here’s a link to it… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_mjk0iex6I
I don’t like the studio version of this song very much. It’s okay I guess.
don’t like the song
don’t like the voice
don’t like the look
don’t like mcphee
but I did try
All I can say is will the real Kat McPhee please stand up, please stand up, please stand up?!?
Didn’t any of those former idol hear the monstrosity “No Boundaries”? Why would Kat let Kara write her a song and for her to voluntarily sing it, is beyond belief. I know her first album bombed, but is she that desperate. She looks so thin and that blond hair makes her look like some brainless bimbo. She had such beautiful hair and now you can’t even recognize her.
I think it’s a fanvid.
Kara is a respected songwriter in the biz. One bad song doesn’t change that. Besides, the No Boundaries hate is a bit extreme– none of the past Idol coronation songs were much better.
POPEATER has new interview with Kat up today.(can see via AOL)…Seems she is getting some attention.
I liked Kat on the show. Beautiful, strong vocals, really classy. I never understood how Taylor won over her. This song is OK. Kind of catchy, actually. If it gets any radio play, it should do all right. It’s as good as the next average female pop star song, maybe even a little better.
As for Kara writing it, I agree with this:
“Kara is a respected songwriter in the biz. One bad song doesn’t change that. Besides, the No Boundaries hate is a bit extreme’“ none of the past Idol coronation songs were much better.”
I think NoBo got a really bad rap, partly b/c Adam and Kris were expected to learn it and sing it well in like, two days, or something ridiculous like that. It was certainly better than some of the other schlocky coronation songs that have come off Idol. I will actually confess to liking Adam’s studio version of it, so I don’t think Kara is a total loss as a songwriter.
I wish Kat would eat though. Poor girl, I wonder if her ED is back?
