  • Katherine sounds good, looks good (though I still like the brown long hair better, but she did donate the hair to Locks of Love, so its all good). Say what you want about Idols, but most of them are the best live singers in the industry today.

  • I have never been a big Kat McPhee fan. I didn’t watch the season so it’s definitely not a favoritism thing, but I always got this kind of skeevy David Foster vibe from her. However, I think I kinda like this song. I like her hair short…hell she’d be beautiful bald, but I do think the color is way wrong for her. I think it totally washes her out and gives her no edge. Not that I think she could be edgy…

  • I think she’s amazing and so hilarious! She’s been doing these promos and concerts all week long. So happy for her!

  • I’m not crazy about this song, but I still like her voice.

She needs to do something with her hair. The blonde could possibly work for her, but it always looks so drab. Maybe she should get a sleeker cut or just style it better.

  • I can never get used to her blonde hair. She looks so weird.

  • I made it 1:59 into that song. Shouldn’t I get a prize?

Why do these people keep singing dreadful Kara DioGuardi songs? Who puts the line, “these are the conditions I left behind” in a pop song chorus? After Open Toes, you would think that McPhee would throw up a little in her mouth to even think about another Kara song.

Come on Idol wannabees. It’s all in the material. Move to Nashville, hang out at the Exit Inn for a few months, and find yourself some real songwriters fer crying out loud.

  • Here is the newest promo pic I found of her on the web, she looks fantastic!! I love this song. YMMV. :)

  • Had It All still sounds countryish to me but it is a good song. When one starts analyzing the lyrics of radio singles, then you’ve sort of missed the point. Katharine’s voice sounds especially good on the Fox 5 television show.

  • Then make it a song with frickin’ radio single lyrics. You know, like “Tutti Frutti” or “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” or “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” or “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction”.

Kara DioGuardi is a hack. Why these Idol wannabees keep trying to get water out of that well, I have no idea.

  • Also shaking my head about the Kara song. Blech!

Kat’s voice is still excellent though it never stood out to me as interesting or original and still doesn’t.

So, blechy song, ordinary voice, no thanks.

HOORAY for locks of love, though I wish she’d stayed brunette. She was so much more gorgeous then.

  • The blonde look does not do her any justice, IMO. Plus, not everyone can go blonde and look fabulous. She looks 100% better with her long brunette locks. Song is O.K.

  • I actually think just about anybody can be blonde, but this is too ashy or something for her. I think her stylists screwed her over on this one. The pic that mad_world posted is great. I just don’t think she can always be photographed in black and white, so I’m worried because I don’t think her hair color is right for her.

Yes hwc, you get a prize for being totally up front, and on the mark!

Sure, Katherine has a lovely voice, but has no signature sound to her voice at all. Then you take a forgettable song, and you got nothing.
There are many female vocalist, who can sing, but to be remembered, your voice has to stand out.

I was so surprised when she made it that far on Idol. I was so disappointed that Elliott Yamin, didn’t get the number two spot. Now to me, and many others, he’s has a considerable unique sound, that you quickly recognize. Stevie Wonder was majorly, and most impressed, with Elliott’s vocals. Stevie heard, “unique & distinct”. There is so much we did not see on Idol, that went on behind the scenes.

Kara probably told Kat, to dirty up her look, like she told Alexis? For some, they must think an edgier look, gets you noticed. I am not buying her at all.

I can see Kara crossing her fingers right now, in hopes that this single gets played on the radio. If I hear it, I will be fuming, for the true artistry, that does not get played.

P.S. I am a lurker, who enyoy’s MJ’s site so very much. It is part of my daily regime. So many of you, are so enduring to me. Peace!

  • I never could see what the big deal was about Kat McPhee. She’s a very mediocre singer. There are any number of pop singers out there right now who could blow her out of the water. Boring girl, boring song. Nothing new.

  • Isn’t she still with a major label? Why is she singing to a track? It would have been a much better performance if she sang with a backing band like Jordin or Kelly. Or maybe if she did the song acoustic and sang with a guitarist? Because she does have a good voice, but that performance at Fox 5 was just forgettable.

  • I am not a fan of the song. And the hair is horrible.

  • Kat’s song ‘Lifetime’ from her new CD to be featured on SYTYCD next week! :)

  • I was a fan of hers in the beginning, but this song does not blow me away. It’s just OK for me. Her blonde hair looks ridiculous.

Kat’s song ‘Lifetime’ from her new CD to be featured on SYTYCD next week!

    …………………………………………………………………

How is this possible, to know this? This may actually be, a second single, thrown at us as soon as possible.
Kara’s song, and Katharine singing it, is NOT getting well recieved. It looks like an attemp, to quickly clean up the throwup effect, & taste out of our mouths.

How does she fair, to get this great opportunity, to showcase a new song, “Lifetime” on SYTYCD? No one even knows this song yet, do they? The Verve Record Label, sure must know how to pull some serious strings. Desperate pulling, I might add!

Any artist would jump at the chance, to have their song danced to, on SYTYCD! Yet alone, a song nobody has heard yet? I wonder how high you have to jump, to get this exposure?

In my heart, I know she can’t give a convincing “Live” performance, especially to edgier songs, which they are hoping will get radio play. An accoustic performance, is the best. It really shows, if a song is worthy.

She can go on a radio/TV tour, smile, & sing, and act cutesy blonde, but leave the studio, with a possible WTF look on their faces.

This blonde image, is a fabricated attempt to get people talking. Well, I guess we are, but it seems so fake & contrived.
    McPheever is over & done.

It’s the music that matter’s, and the live performances, that WOW the audience’s. You have to be able to sing in concert’s. That’s where an artist, makes their most money.

I pray for Adam, given that Kara wrote a song for his upcoming new album. But knowing him, he could sing anything, and put his own spin on it. He’s an artist, that can make just about any songwriter look good!
We’ll have to wait and see, if Kara’s song makes the cut, on his new album? Very curious?

I am still a loving lurker, and new at posting here. Hopefully, someone has some inside information?

  • Kat has performed ‘Lifetime’ at her Oceanside concert couple weeks ago and has sang it at her radio stations tours. Mj even posted Kat’s Lifetime video here. Kat announced ‘Lifetime’ being featured on SYTCD at Pittsburg Charity concert on Friday.

HIA is climbing up the AC Top 50 charts. Last I heard it was currently charting at 42.

Here’s my comment on that song:

    Make it STOP!

I started reading the comments while it was playing and all the sudden it was actually painful to listen to and I had to frantically looking for the stop button. Send this baby to GITMO and torture terrorists with it. They’ll confess before the second chorus.

hwc, Thanks for the warning. It should come attached to any new Kat McPhee recording. Kat has always seemed to me as someone who skates by on her looks. Her voice is unremarkable. It’s sweet but bland and completely devoid of any nutritional content. Her acting seems about the same to me. Now, modeling could work out for Kat – she does pretty well at playing to the camera – hence how she managed to get to #2 on her season.

    …………………………………………………………………….

I totally missed this, new Kat music. Thanks for all your information, about Katharine.
My mother passed away, and time just isn’t real for a while. You are just in the moment, and other things are in the forefront, and nothing else matters.

Now, I am glad I didn’t hear this, because it has no heart to it. The fact that it is titled, “Lifetime”, is bonkersville. I may be a bit depressed, and tired, but this song has no ‘lifetime’ inspiration to it at all!

I really don’t care what the CEO, of Verve Record’s has to say. It’s all fluff to me, with no heart! You mentioned, that I was unfortunate not to hear more of the songs, that she has been promoting.
With all my heart, I consider myself very fortunate. I am so glad, I didn’t have the time or energy, to hear this, with my mother’s passing, and all. I’ll consider it a blessing.

Well, I agree with hwc, and movin2thabeet, on all accounts. I commend their judgement, and thank them, for their warning to others.

Music is special to many of us, but it’s got to have good bones, to be a worthy song. This is not music to my ears. It will not fill the void, and move me, or soothe me.

I don’t need to know about the charts, and the # position it has moved to. In the long run, it really won’t matter. It hasn’t moved me.
