Katharine McPhee — Working with David Foster?

Katharine McPhee is not only making movies, modeling for magazines, and planning a wedding, she’s apparently planning her next album.

She attended the Neil Sedaka, 50 Years of Hits benefit for the Elton John Aids foundation in New York City Friday Night. David Foster, producer of Michael Buble, Josh Groban and Celine Dion, who took a liking to Kat when he mentored the AI Season 5 kids for a week, told the Lincoln Center audience that he would be producing her next record.

Katharine sent out a bulletin to her My Space friends that said in part:

This next year is going to be amazing musically and I look forward to sharing with you all very soon.

I guess that whole “rhythmic pop” thang Kat claimed was her style is no more. No more “Open Toes”? Guess not!

I guess that whole “rhythmic pop” thang Kat claimed was her style is no more.

For being that “strong business woman” she professed herself to be, *** continues to have no musical direction, no musical identity, basically she has no clue. She is operating on the throw something against the wall and see if it sticks philosophy.

    Hef is on the phone.

Your 15 minutes are about up.

I guess if you are pretty enough and show enough skin, it doesn’t matter if you say stupid and unkind things, have a bad work ethic and make bad decisions. *** is a joke to me.

Kat seemed so insecure and inexperienced on AI. Her “rhythmic
pop” seemed like an immature selection of music. Maybe Kat
will make better choices as she matures and becomes more
comfortable with herself. I hope she has a very successful
future. Her package is strong (looks and talent) and I look
forward to seeing her grow in her career. Working with David
Foster is smart on her part. This will be interesting.

David Foster is rumoured to be producing a *** album, and his recording studio burns down. He should have seen it coming. After all, *** has appeared at the launching of a ship, and the ship nearly sinks. *** has appeared on magazines, and the magazine folds.

Not only is *** a walking and talking joke, she is a disaster waiting to happen for all associated with her. Elliott, should reconsider his duet with her. He should be scared, very, very scared. LOL

    ETA:
If I have missed anything that *** has sunk…lets document the atrocities here. LOL

  5. 5 jpfan Oct 30th, 2007 at 7:01 pm

Mmmm. Elliott’s new single is not moving up the charts as quickly as WFY. Of course, before he released One Word, he did that duet with Kat. OMG.

Wasn’t Kat the cover girl for the last issue for more than one magazine? Teen People, anything else

  6. 6 Chicago-sally Oct 30th, 2007 at 8:01 pm

I don’t know that David Foster has done anything new or exciting, but it’s worth a try. She’s a little slow getting out the train station.

    MAXIM’S STUFF Magazine, sunk.

Katharine McPhee is not only taking bit parts in lowbrow comedies, starring in her boyfriends’ straight-to-DVD film, modeling pantsless for magazines, and planning a wedding to her grandfather, she’s apparently planning her next album that no one will buy.

    Fixed it.

Why is Katharine McPhee even bothering to release another CD? I guess Clive Davis and company need more flops on their hands?

If anyone would benefit from David Foster’s production–it would be Elliott Yamin.

I had no idea Elliott was doing a duet with Katharine—that’s probably because no one else really liked her on the show and Elliott is so humble he said yes because no one else would……….LOL

Elliott’s Xmas CD is quite good, so pick it up at Target for $6.99.

Is that a fact? No one liked her on the show? There were rumblings about Taylor too. That season’s bunch didn’t seem to get along did they?

Give her credit, she’s trying really really hard.

That must be why half the contestants showed up for the finale waving pictures of Taylor’s head on a stick, right? Because they didn’t like him? :)

    Give her credit

    No. :laugh_tb:

    she’s trying really really hard.

At what, trying to be famous for whatever reason she can cling to?

If KAT was well liked on Idol, she would have been asked back this past season to sing! They used Chris’ song Home, and Taylor, Elliott and Kellie came back to sing.

KAT is a pretty face with a mediocre singing voice—and her lack of radio airplay and CD sales prove that point. She only made it to the finals because of her looks.

We all know the final two should have been Elliott and Chris.

  16. 16 Kat Oct 31st, 2007 at 10:41 am

Oh, I can’t stand her public image, but I’ll be the first to say that aside from a couple of reports that she was a diva (notably one from The Advocate), no one ever said that she was unliked.

We all know the final two should have been Elliott and Chris.

Oh, for the everloving sanity of MJ, can we please cease and desist from this turning into “my Idol deserved to be in the final two more than your Idol?” Pretty please?

  17. 17 hopeful Oct 31st, 2007 at 1:16 pm

yikes that picture. I would be interested in hearing something of a different style from Kat. I always liked her voice.

And I agree, IDOLIDOL, Elliott’s Christmas cd is pretty fantastic.

  18. 18 mj Oct 31st, 2007 at 1:39 pm

The baseless generalizations are just flying in this thread, aren’t they?

There were rumblings about Taylor too.

Oh, indeed. There were. And are. From what I hear, he wasn’t as beloved as y’all might think.

    And with that…

This thread is not going to turn into a Taylor vs Kat thread. Or a Kat vs anyone.

Or I shut down comments in this thread.

Okay, I only have one thing to say :

Elliotts new single “One Word” is climbing on the charts faster than “Wait for you”.

I dont know what youre talking about.
I hope this Elliott and Katharine duet is better than I imagine.

and thats cool shes working with David Foster. :)

I think it’s great that Kat will be working with David Foster. You could tell from AI that he recognized her talent from the beginning and now seems really interested in helping her along on her career. I think it’s hard to realize that Kat was pretty much starting out when she was on AI and was pretty young, now having released a CD, acted in a movie, graced the cover of at least 12 magazines, and earned $,$$$,$$$ modeling. It’s a lot to happen in a little over a year. I’m sure she has learned a lot and will continue to learn and mature, especially with the help of people like David Foster. She’s a beautiful woman with lots of talent. Incidentally, I’ve only heard nice things about her from people she has worked with or fans that have approached her. I wish her an enjoyable road to success.

Katharine’s got a lot of irons in the fire, right now, and I’m looking forward to her collaboration with Elliott and Mr. Foster. For some reason, I’d love for Kat and TayTay to record something, but maybe we’ll have to wait until the future episodes of “Battle between the American Idol Stars” on the E Network. :lol_ee:

I am excited to hear what David Foster produces for Katharine. He did a really good job on Somewhere Over The Rainbow so I have high hopes.

Really many of the contestants from AI season 5 have done amazingly well for themselves. I think it’s really great that they so many of them are still working in the music business or other entertainment avenues.

It is? Sure doesn’t seem like it to me but my memory is shot - although I can sing the theme song to the Brady Bunch flawlessly.

She can kiss her 15 minutes goodbye.

The thing about the Idols is that at various points in time they’re all going to be stressed out, have bad days, and just flat-out clash with other people’s personalities. That’s why it’s so hard to make judgments based on hearsay. “So and so says Idol X is a dear, so and so says Idol Y isn’t as nice as everyone thinks.” Maybe, but how far can that go? No one gets along with everyone. I guess I just take what I see in their interviews and run with that without putting a whole lot of stock in what other people have to say about what their daughter’s friend’s dogwalker’s hairdresser has to say about how well-liked Kat, Taylor, Elliott, or Chris were on American Idol.

I go by the old cliche: Where there is smoke, there is fire.

  29. 29 Kat Nov 1st, 2007 at 7:33 am

I go by the old cliche: Where there is smoke, there is fire.

I don’t think that can really hold true on the Internet, where anyone can pretend to be anyone. Besides, if one person says that she worked with Katharine on the set of a movie and Kat was a bitch, and the other says she worked with Katharine on the set of a movie and Kat was the sweetest girl ever…well, which one is the smoke?

I doubt Kat and Taylor were universally beloved and I’m sure there are plenty of people who have stories to tell about how OMGWHATADIVA either one of them are. But I’m not going to define someone by how one person reacted to them (one person who, in this crazy Idol obsession, may be inventing the entire thing out of cloth). I have no problem critiquing the Idol’s public personas (Kat does come off as a vapid narcissist to me, and Taylor has been about as interesting as corrugated cardboard lately). But that’s as far as I can go, and I refuse to allow third-party Internet hearsay define my opinion of who they are as people. Because I don’t know them.

  30. 30 mj Nov 1st, 2007 at 8:56 am

I don’t think that can really hold true on the Internet

I’m not talking about things I’ve heard on the internet, or a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend. I don’t pay attention to that sort of thing.

To be honest, it doesn’t really make much of a difference one way or another to me. I don’t dwell all that much on the personalities of people I don’t really know.

  31. 31 rachrach Nov 1st, 2007 at 1:02 pm

Uh, well, I’m an Elliott fan myself - a big one - so I do follow the “stats”. I just remember Elliott getting a huge push from KISS-FM in LA - huge market - for Wait for You. Many people that have been following Elliott’s singles feel that Wait for You had a little more push at the beginning. I want One Word to be a big hit because I’m a big fan… no need for the hostility.

I love that you guys are referring to *** as ***. Sweet.

I have conducted my own survey about Idol likeablity from Season 5. No, I don’t have a life.

I am dead serious that these are the responses I get MOST OFTEN in the first three cases and ALL THE TIME in the last case.

    Here are the results:

    1. Taylor Hicks - “That old man that won American Idol? Where is he?

    2. Chris Daughtry - “I hear his songs on the radio all the time.

    3. Elliott Yamin - “He got his teeth fixed!”

    4. Kat McPhee - “Who?”

The fact that Kat has been to, in and on everything from the opening of a cracker jack box to the unveiling Kentucky Fried Chickens new logo and still is not on the radio and has lackluster cd sales proves that she is not nearly as popular as her fans think she is. That’s not to say that if keeps making B films and showing her ass cheeks so won’t some day be popular, but for now, a reality check is in order.
