Kelly Clarkson Working on Her New Album for 4th Quarter 2010
Kelly Clarkson was in Atlanta Monday to play a radio event. She spoke to Q100 about her next album, due in the 4th quarter of 2010.
“We’re already working on it but it’s probably not going to hit until, like, the fourth quarter of next year ‘†around Christmas next year…There’s still some like singer/songwriter stuff [on the album], but there’s … I don’t know. It’s almost like Garbage-meets-pop-meets-Muse. It’s a little different…I don’t know how it’s going to end up. Who knows?” she said. “It always ends up being something completely different.”

Kelly just wrapped up her North American tour. She’s set to tour abroad, beginning in February 2010.

Can I pre-order this yet? Because lets be honest… I’m gonna buy it regardless. I’m excited anytime Kelly says she’s doing something “different”. Yay!
“It’s almost like Garbage-meets-pop-meets-Muse.”
Isn’t that essentially what Breakaway was? Well, add a little more of an epic feel to a majority of Breakaway, and I don’t see that description being too far off base.
Wow, I had no idea Kelly was a Garbage fan! I think that bodes well if she gets in the studio with someone who can seriously make samples sound real and good as they interact with real instruments (call Butch Vig!), but if she works with the same people who did All I Ever Wanted it’s going to sound cheap and pre-fab.
Garbage meets pop meets Muse <- as a European I fully accept! Cannot wait!
So does that mean RCA is done with singles for this album? Because I just bought AIEW during the last $5 Amazon sale and I don’t think there are any more singles left either (and a couple of really stupid songs). What do you guys think?
Didn’t Kelly already do the garbage thing with My December? [rimshot]
I would love it if her next album is more like My December than any other album she released. My December is the only Kelly Clarkson album I fully enjoyed.
Coincidentally, I was just wondering about the strategy on this album.
Make no mistake, this year has been a huge triumph for Kelly. After all the mishegas over My December, she comes back this year and has two of the biggest songs of the year, the multi platinum My Life Would Suck Without You, and the platinum single Already Gone (at 880 k now but still getting massive play and certain to reach 1 mil). Plus 1 moderate hit (I Do Not Hook Up).
And she was all over the place on award shows, with videos, a good tour.
However, it’s a tough thing with album sales in pop. Her record is still at 784 k. Getting that last leg to 1 million is like pulling teeth, as she’s selling under 10 k per week right now. Already Gone IS still getting tons of airplay, and her record is still at 143 on the Billboard. If they do nothing and just let AG play out and be done, AIEW will still get over 800 k . . . but will it make 1 mil? Soooo cloose. Or will they try one more single? Even a moderate success that sold 300 k or so could get them over the top there.
I’ve always thought “Cry” and “Don’t Let Me Stop You” would do well as singles. I actually heard “Cry” on the radio today.
Yeah this sounds really good
I don’t care how they classify it I too would preorder it now. The only cd of Kelly’s not in rotation still in my house is the first one. So if it’s Breakaway 2, or My December 2010, or AIEW again…..I’m happy.
that’s funny – preorder it now?? add me to the list!!! And wow, Kelly is actually going to release a CD in the 4th qtr for a change. Seems like all of hers come out in the spring-ish…So no Tedder-like vibe?? awe man!
Sign me up for a preorder now as well!
Wow, I think there are quite a few more potential singles on the album – “Cry”, “All I Ever Wanted”, maybe the lighter “Ready” or “I Want You”…and if they stick with the whole Judges Save dealio, wouldn’t “Save Me” make a great boot song?
*raising hand* I can’t wait either. I’d probably buy an album of hers even if it was the “Singing Phonebook.”
PS. I heard a rumor that she mentioned on one of her tour stops that Don’t Let Me Stop You would be the next single. But this was back around October, so maybe due to the amazing run with Already Gone, they’ve rethought it?
