Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic recently spoke with ABC News Radio, and here’s what he had to say about Kelly Clarkson’s upcoming CD, due to drop in November:
OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder did quite a bit of work on Kelly Clarkson’s forthcoming CD, and when asked to describe it, Tedder told ABC News Radio, “The sound is, in a word, amazing.†He added, “She was talking about how she thinks it’ll be better than any album she’s put out so far. The last song we did [together] is my favorite song I’ve done since ‘Apologize’ or ‘Bleeding Love’ or whatever. It’s very haunting.†Tedder raves, “I’ve never been more excited about material that I’ve worked on with any artist, to be quite frank.â€
Saying the sound of the record is “all over the place,†Tedder explains, ‘She’s gonna have really aggressive, in-your-face rock/pop, but she’s also gonna have orchestral, Mozart moments of classical rhythmic stuff. It’s great.â€
No doubt Kelly is going back to the formula that worked for her–made-for-radio hits. But, I hope, in the meantime, she’s brought along at least a bit of the adventurousness displayed on My December. Which, by the way, is one of those underrated albums that will be appreciated more as time passes, I predict…
I hope so, too. I never felt compelled to buy or listen to the first two albums but I loved, loved her My December. I’d certainly buy this new one, though. I’m particularly excited about the song she worked on with Ryan Tedder (who, btw, I saw in concert recently and was pretty awesome live). :)
Man, I’ve missed Kelly. I love her. I hope she wrote some songs for her new record. In my own private fantasy world, it was the Clive/Kelly madness over My December that finally got Sony to push Clive out of the way. LOL. I can dream, can’t I?
Very exciting! Kelly is so great and the pop/rock music world really needs her contributions to balance out all the Beyonce/Rihanna/Alicia stuff that has taken over the airwaves. (Don’t get me wrong, they are all fine, but we need variety.)
With her album coming out later this year, maybe she and Archie could tour together?!? That would be a great concert. They have a connection, after all, and reasonably overlapping fan bases, I would think. I know I would pay big bucks to see a Kelly/Archie show.
Cook will also be dropping his album in the same time frame. Her music might be more like Cook’s, but I can’t see him touring with Kelly.
My December wasn’t perfect, but I loved it. Can’t wait to hear the new one! I’ve missed Kelly.

I’m looking forward to a more mature, soulful, less pop-py sound from Kelly.

I agree. I can’t see Kelly touring with Archuleta at all, and I don’t see them sharing a common fanbase (I may be wrong though). Archuleta seems to be going more the Disney route? Cook seems to match closer to Kelly’s style.
Clarkson/Cook is my absolute DREAM duet. I don’t think I’d want them to do a whole tour together, but a duet, please?! I’m so excited for her new CD. I absolutely loved My December and am dying for new music from her!

Yay, Kelly is back. I cant wait to hear her album and hopefully, maybe, I can slip it in my 10 year old daughters kareoke machine and replace Kellys old one that she loves??? We need some new Kelly
This is really exciting news. I predict an idol top 3 on the billboard 200 in November in this order: Cook, Kelly, Archie.

It’s great to hear some positive buzz about Kelly’s new album. I wonder if the song Ryan Tedder is so excited about will be the first single? I’m definitely intrigued. Amazon currently has Kelly’s release date as 11/18 - hopefully we’ll hear her single within the next several weeks.
There’s a short article in the latest Rolling Stone about big 4th quarter album releases, but there was no mention of Kelly there (both Davids were mentioned, but with U2, Beyonce, The Killers, Eminem, Jay-Z and many other big names all planning on releasing new CDs in November, I’m not necessarily looking for ANY Idols at the very top of the charts). I’m thinking sales expectations might be a little lower for Kelly after “My December” but it sounds like she’s in a position to bounce right back. For me, she’s still the best Idol evah (well, at least until DC proves himself with a quality album and sales figures to match)

I’m ready to hear Kelly on the radio with new songs again. I’ve missed her. I CANNOT WAIT until this album drops. Kelly and DC are my two most anticipated fall albums, FO SHO.
You and me both. Cook/Smithson is right up there too. I doubt they’ll tour together (which is fine with me, I love concerts and would not hesitate to see them separately, too), but a KC/DC duet would rock my world.

I love Kelly Clarkson even though I didn’t watch American Idol Season 1 except for the finale. She is in my top 5 idols with David Cook, Taylor, Bo and Jason. I can’t wait for this new CD. I saw her in concert with Reba and thought she was amazing live. I definately think she is one of the most talented vocally to come out of Idol.
ETA: A Cook/Clarkson duet or a Hicks/Clarkson duet would fabulous.
My December was so underated, I will never forgive Clive for fowling the air so badly. Before all of the crap Never Again was climbing the charts, after he undercut her, that was it. I am so glad to hear she is working the Ryan Tedder, and that he is so excited about her. Kelly is in my top 5 as well, which also includes Archie, Fannie, Ruben and a tie between Taylor and Bo. She can sing any damn thing she wants and I will buy it. Hell, she could rap and I would buy that too! Go Kelly.
I know, right? That just pissed me off. I heard it on the radio here a lot until all the album bickering stuff started being thrown around. And IIRC, that little song that couldn’t do shit from the album that couldn’t do shit was at something like 800K downloads from the last time Ken Barnes updated her numbers.

Ready to hear Kelly kick butt - I too think she and DA would pair better than she and DC… at sister girl’s core, she can flat out B-L-O-W… THAT VOICE of her’s is the foundation and the ticket for me to buy whatever she’s selling…. just like DA… they are both vocal powerhouses, and vocal chameleon’s of a sort, and it would be interesting to hear their voices in duet… one can dream
Maturin’ my favorites on my december are Don’t Waste Your Time, Yeah, and Irvine, oh yeah and Can I have a Kiss. This cd is better than I thought it would be after all of the controvery about it being too hard. It is pop enough for me. I love Kelly’s rough edges. We all know she can do sweetness and light, but a little walk on the wild side does a girl good too.
Ggdoorsfan, I think Kelly and David A would make an awesome duet, she can indeed BLOW and so can he. Both of their pure voices have such a beautiful, soulful tone to them and would complement each other well. Don’t think it’s gonna happen, but I too can dream.
My personal favorites are “Sober”, “Be Still”, “Irvine”, “Chivas” (which is a bonus track, piggybacking on “Irvine”), and “How I Feel.” Others will have other faves, but those are mine. :)
“Sober” is my favorite song from any AI alum album, ever. It’s gorgeous and haunting and just gets me, every time.
I have do disagree with Archuleta having powerhouse vocals. Who got the powerhouse vocals on Shout to the Lord? Archuleta has a beautiful voice, but I don’t find him to be a powerhouse. How out of breath he gets between songs on the tour kinda scares me for him. I guess he’s ok because he keeps doing it however.
Oh crap, I forgot about Chivas, I loved that too……running to retrieve my ipod……

Their voices both have some deep soul underpinnings that I can’t wait to hear them explore as they continue putting out material. Miss Kelly can hang with the best of em - anybody that can sing Etta James’s soul classic AT LAST like she did… Lord have mercy… She’s alright in my book!
That breathiness for DA is most likely the lingering effects from his vocal paralysis… I read somewhere that he has to employ conscious breathing techniques in order to compensate… and in spite of that he still delivers a purity of tone and clarity in his singing that to me is remarkable…. I guess the term powerhouse is relative, but in my book - he’s got the vocal gravitas to sing and sell everything from SHOP AROUND to IMAGINE to APOLOGIZE …. on through to CRUSH and beyond… maybe vocal dynamite is more apropos?
There’s a song Kelly sang on the soundtrack of the Hugh Grant movie “Love Actually”… does anyone know the name? I had that movie on CD somewhere, can’t find it… it’s a kicking song……

Kelly might be my all time favorite Idol. Love her like crazy and I’ve been so anxious for this new album mostly because I love her voice. I’m not terribly impressed with Ryan Tedder though so I’m trying to stay open-minded. With the exception of Bleeding Love I’m not crazy about much else he’s done.
I always saw DC as the male Kelly..voice wise and his AI journey reminded me so much of hers. That said if they ever sang, or toured, or so much as a took a picture together I think I’d combust
Yeah I saw that article earlier and I was a little surprised she wasn’t mentioned =/ I tend to agree expectations for her will be lower this time around, plus Kelly for some reason actually never really gets huge first week sales so, I don’t know.

Kelly/Cook would be a fantastic tour. It could even be an arena tour. Their musical styles would be very complementary I think.
The new album sounds great. I did really love My December. The quality of an album should never be judged by the number it sells.
For me there has never been a voice on Idol that compares to Kelly’s. She has so much power to her voice and this extra ability to add so much emotion in her voice just by using that breathy tone. I remember reading that she had a horrible case of laryngitis when she did that version of “Shelter” and it’s just heartbreaking. If you want an incredible version of “The Trouble with Love†there’s the performance she did on Ryan Seacrest’s show. The last notes she hits are out of this world. I love “My December” and think 90% of the disc is excellent.

Kelly’s voice is a truly amazing thing. I also enjoyed a good portion of My December, and I’m looking forward to her next cd.
Right on Steven D… Kelly is the real deal… a natural born SINGER who can kill ya softly, or pin you to the wall - and stay on pitch and in the pocket at all times… she’ll be on my buy list whenever her album drops…

Besides those, Fall Out Boy’s new album comes out on Nov. 4th, Taylor Swift Nov. 11th, Christina Aguilera may have some Greatest Hits album as well. So I don’t think the idols would rule the charts completely.
