Kevin Covais couldn’t do much worse than his debut movie “College”. It was ripped apart by critics–it only got an 8% on the tomatometer at Rotten Tomatoes–and a failure at the box office. How big a failure was it? Rodney Ho reported the numbers: “Sadly, Covais’ R-rated college flick failed miserably in its opening weekend, just $2.6 million in 2,123 locations for a modest $1,241 four-day average. With an average of four shows a day and, say, $8 per ticket, that means about 40 people per screening.”
His upcoming movie looks to be a big improvement. It stars Lindsay Lohan, and features Janeane Garofalo, Cheryl Hines, and Chris Parnell. Not too shabby! The plot revolves around Lohan’s character faking a pregnancy in order to avoid being fired. Kevin plays one of her office mates.

Even though Kevin’s first movie is a dud, he is getting acting experience to put on a resume. I think he just might have a good career ahead of him in films.
I feel bad for Kevin because I was hoping it would do better but it was good way to get his foot in the door. I think his fans and Drake Bell’s fans were too young to get into this movie. Who knows? Maybe it was the end of the summer and no one was going to the movies? I think the movie would of done better if the plot was better and if it was more Disney, but I could be wrong and hopefully it will pick up this coming week. “Labor Pains” definitely looks more promising. I saw “College” and Kevin’s acting isn’t too bad at all. :)
Although College was panned, Kevin got a couple of decent reviews for it. The trailer for Labor Pains looks like a far better movie. (I think Kevin does better in the PG or PG-13 arena.)
His next movie looks much better, I agree that he has a future in films…..so happy for him
I’m kinda rooting for the little guy. He’s got a special place in my heart, and I can’t say why. Let’s just say he helped put me on the map, in a round-a-bout way. ;)
The problem with “College” wasn’t the R rating, in my opinion. The problem was that it flat out sucked–even for a movie of that genre–and the studio had no faith in it. They dumped it at the end of summer, with very little promotion. And when a movie is released like “College” was, with no pre-screenings for critics, that’s pretty much a clue that it’s a giant stinker.
Also it was Deb Hagan’s directorial debut and she really doesn’t have a good direction at all. Yeah the promo sucked so they knew that it wasn’t going to do phenomenal. I wonder how Katphee’s movie did? Thanks for rooting for Kevin, he has grown up a lot since idol. :)
I did not see any promo on TV nor in print media for Kevin’s first movie. I would not have even known that it was out if not for this blog. I’m surprised that it opened in so many theaters. I hope his second movie will do well. Lindsay Lohan hasn’t had the best luck with picking projects lately. Maybe this movie will turn things around for both of them.
I was looking for the stats on Katphee’s movie which actually had a premiere and a more well known cast, I guess did better. Considering that Kevin’s movie budget was only 7million it did ok, it’s still not good, lol, but I was looking at the other movies which had ginormous budget and didn’t doing that hot either. :)
I hope his second movie will have a better opening.

That trailer looked pretty good, but Kevin didn’t do anything for me. Maybe he needs longer hair, or something.
With a budget of 7 millions dollar’s, Kevin’s movie will MORE than make it’s money back with it’s ancilliary sales (DVD, Cable, etc…) and rentals. I predict it will go to DVD very quicklly and make a decent profit.
Kevin has nothing to worry about. The responsibility wasn’t on his shoulders to make it a big hit. And I don’t think the studio expected the movie to be either.
It’s obvious he’s continuing to get work. He’ll never be a leading man but he could make a good living as a character actor.
