I don’t like the picture of Kris, either. It doesn’t look like him — even though he does actually look human flesh-and-bones (unlike Adam who always looks so plastic).

I’m not that picky though. I can see that they’re both decent looking guys in their own ways, and for me, they don’t need to look like movie stars in every photo. I think the photo captures the “spirit” of each them rather well.

The title reminded me of ‘American Girl’ and that Tom Petty’s ‘The Live Anthology’ is coming out next week. Sooo, I went to pre-order it on iTunes and iTunes is mucked up. They had no record of the album existing when I clicked to order. Damn you, iTunes!

First positives are that the primary color combination is very bold and striking and works well to pull you in. Plus – it’s both Kris and Adam visually juxtaposing their styles both personally and musically. Their faces capture your attention.

What is hot on the American charts seems to be John Mayer and Lady Gaga type music and that’s pretty much what we have in these ‘new kids’ Kris and Adam. Organic vs. Extravaganza. Something for everyone.

I love the title ‘American Boys’ because that is exactly what they are. These are the ‘kids’, albeit older versions, that I see headed to school or college campuses, at the mall, on the street in Old Town Pasadena or The Grove. They’re hanging together.

Negative impressions? Too much attention was spent on cropping out the backgrounds of the separate pictures while ignoring bad shadows. The shadows, particularly on Kris’ neck and shirt become distracting. I’d also have moved Kris a skosh to the right for a more cohesive presentation. (Why does Kris have a fork sticking out of his head?)

The ‘R’ in American draws your eye to what is missing – the rest of Adam’s arm! That could have been flat black in that cutaway and looked just fine. Adam’s other arm with the floating chain metal hand looks just bizarre. Whatever vest type thing that Adam is wearing disturbed me the first time I saw it and continues here. I have no idea why, but I don’t like it.

Kris’ rumpled tucked in box type dress shirt looks sloppy. He normally wears more fitted tapered shirts. Had it been unbuttoned and not tucked into his pants, it would look good and much more natural for him. I blame the stylist.

If you crop the pic across from the yellow +, it’s a pretty decent photo.

I also agree with Kirsten about the American Boys caption. Different parts of the musical mosaic indeed.

Yep. I’m pretty sure.

AI and a lot of the media has spent so much time building these two up as polar opposites (e.g. Ryan’s stupid “guy next door vs guy-liner” thing), but this cover doesn’t buy into it. Sure, it allows the two of them to be who they are, but captions them “American Boys”. They are different parts of the musical mosaic, but they are still part of the same family.

Bravo to Billboard for featuring both these artists at the same time, avoiding getting mired in fanwar bating and focusing on what they both want to do: make music and entertain people. And, what do you know, we actually learned a few new things in these articles.

We don’t always see eye to eye on things but in this case we agreed!!

So each to their own!!

Now I can partially open one eye and still see that it’s half as beautiful as you describe ‘ ¦

I think it is a terrible cover ‘” thankfully, the Adam article inside the mag is great ‘” and the Sebree picture of Adam in the article is fantastic.

I just don’t think the cover is that bad. That fact that we disagree is so funny to me. I don’t know why. Grinning like an idiot right now.

I will have to get a copy of this magazine and run a survey with people who are not as invested as the posters here. I am interested in the opinions of the general public ( or at least the people that I interact with on a daily basis who don’t even know that Kris and Adam still exist).
